Chapter 1:

My First Girlfriend

The Zombie Apocalypse Started the Day I Got My First Girlfriend

Very late in the afternoon, the sun covered the whole university courtyard in a very warm like golden and red color...quite beautiful, I say.
The wind blew quickly in the background, yet to me, the world felt utterly still and silent.

My right fingernails tightened into a very strong fist at my side... I could feel my own heart beating more and more into my ears, becoming louder than my own breathing...

“Aoi-san…” I began speaking, my voice was barely audible... She briefly turned her head, facing me, leaning in more, and both her eyes were curiously catching my timid expression.

"Aoi-san..." My throat tightened up a little bit, but I still managed to briefly force the words out. "I’m really in love with you. Please… go out with me.”

I kept my head very Low, bowing, unable to look at her face, afraid of what expression I might see... The atmosphere between us was really heavy, each second stretching into what may seem like eternity.

For a few more minutes, there absolutely was nothing at first. No replies from her, no movement, just the sound of the wind heavily blowing and my own nervous, unsteady breathing.

Then… footsteps.

She came a bit closer, each step she took, keeping my chest tight from anticipation. My fingers curled up even harder, and my nails were digging into my sweaty palms. But still, I couldn’t lift up my head...

“Hey,” She briefly called out to me, her voice was very feminine, gentle and teasing all at the same time. “Why aren’t you looking at me?”

I instinctively swallowed my saliva quickly and hard. “Because… I’m scared.”

A small, cute laugh escaped her lips, and then, warmth. Her fingers brushed against her palm, tentative but real.

When I finally looked up, her eyes were more watery than I had ever seen them, and the corners of her lips were curved into a little, sincere and cute smile.

“You’re such an idiot...you know that?” she said out loud, while shaking her head slightly to the left. “But… ”

She paused in between speeches, just long enough to make my heart nearly stop in anticipation. “…I like you too.”

For a microsecond, I actually forgot how to breathe properly... Her words briefly replayed in my head again and again and again. “I like you too.”

“···Y-you really do?” My voice cracked up instantly from joy, embarrassing me instantly.

Her cheeks slowly turned light red, but she didn’t look away. “Don’t make me repeat it, okay?”

She then let go of my hand briefly. My heart dropped for a second, but then I noticed her reaching into her small pink bag.

From inside, she pulled out her phone, a red and blue iPhone 17 Pro. She held it out in front of me with a little smile.

“Here,” she acted casually, though the light red blush on her cheeks betrayed her every attempt to act calm... “Give me your phone number. Since we’re going to be dating, I should have it.”

My brain instantly short-circuited..."Dating… we’re actually… dating?!

I really fumbled hard trying to pull out my own phone from my back pocket, my hands trembling more than I wanted to admit... “R-right. Of course. Here, let me…”

She cutely giggled at my excessive clumsiness as I typed in my phone number, my fingers slipping once and forcing me to backspace.

When I finally handed her phone back, she tapped the screen twice, then tilted it towards me.

“See? Saved under ‘My boyfriend.’”
The words hit me hard, like a school bus. My entire face went completely red. “B-boyfriend?! Y-you didn’t have to save it like that right away!”

Her grin widened briefly. “Why not? It’s true, isn’t it?”

I covered my whole face with both my hands, groaning in embarrassment while she softly and cutely laughed beside me...

But just as I was about to say something else, her phone rang twice. She glanced at the screen, and her whole expression quickly changed.

“Sorry, I need to take this.” She walked to the other side, while holding her phone to her ear, her voice was dropping lower as she spoke to the mysterious person on the call.

I waited at the side, patiently pretending not to overhear her discussion, my heart still racing fast from everything that had just happened. A few minutes later, she walked back, slipping her phone back into her bag.

“Sorry about that,” she said and bowed with an apologetic smile. “I’ve got to run to my history class now. I’ll see you later, okay?”

She gave me a very quick wave before walking down the path leading away from the courtyard, her feminine figure slowly disappearing into the university street.

And just like that, I was left standing there, alone, still trying to process the fact that I had actually confessed to my crush… and she had said yes...

I’m sure you’re wondering how all this happened, how someone like me ended up in a situation like this.

Well… let me explain.

My name is Yuto Sato. I’m twenty years old. And yes… I’m still a freaking virgin.

That’s right. A 20-year-old virgin.

It all started with a stupid game I played with my roommates. We were messing around for a moment, and I ended up losing a bet. My punishment? To “rizz up” the most beautiful and popular girl in our university, Aoi-suzuki.

To be honest with you guys, I thought it would be impossible. I mean, me? Of all people? But to my shock… she actually liked me back.

Crazy, right? A nobody like me, a 20-year-old virgin, actually managed to make the goddess of our campus smile.

I thought I was the luckiest guy alive.

Or at least… that’s what I believed back then...

[Breaking News Broadcast]

“Good evening, everyone. We interrupt this program to bring you urgent news from downtown Shibuya.

Just hours ago, chaos erupted in the heart of the city when a homeless man was seen violently attacking a high school student in broad daylight...

Witnesses report that the man appeared ‘unnaturally aggressive,’ ignoring all attempts to restrain him and even biting the student’s hand during the intense struggle.

Thankfully, nearby security personnel managed to intervene quickly. The attacker was subdued and pinned down until law enforcement arrived on the scene. The injured student has been taken to the hospital for immediate treatment.

At this time, officials have not released details on the attacker’s health condition, though bystanders described his behavior as ‘feral’ and ‘inhuman.’ Authorities urge the public to remain calm as investigations are underway.”

[The End]

Yuto lazily pushes open the door of his university dorm room. With a heavy, reluctant and tired sigh, he let his bag slip from his shoulder and drop to the floor.

The room's TV was already on, filling the room with the voice of a newscaster. Her voice was quite serious, words like “attack,” “bitten,” and “inhuman behavior” echoing loudly in the background.

But for a brief moment, Yuto’s eyes lingered on the TV screen news report. The shaky footage replayed, showing the unhinged homeless man thrashing wildly as a security guard forced him down. It was unsettling, almost like an animal.

“…Weird,” Yuto muttered to himself, speaking under his breath.
The words of the newscaster couldn’t pierce through his head or the warmth in his chest.

He was still grinning like an idiot, a moron, replaying Aoi-san’s words in his head. “Since we’re going to be dating”

He shook his head, brushing the scene on TV aside. There is no way that he was going to let some random, creepy guy from the news report ruin this mood.

Briefly, he jumped down onto his bed, pulled out his phone and stared at the new contact glowing on the screen. My Girlfriend. Just seeing it made his heart race all over again.

“The world could fall apart outside for all I cared,” he murmured before resting his face deep into his pillow.
