Chapter 10: The Abandoned Dungeon

Ascension of the Forsaken Hunter

Kael Ardyn stood before the entrance of an abandoned dungeon on the outskirts of Astria, the crumbling stones covered in moss and the air thick with dust and decay. Few dared enter this place—rumors whispered of monsters lurking in the shadows, and traps left by long-forgotten hunters.

Kael adjusted his grip on his sword, heart racing with anticipation. “This will be my proving ground,” he muttered. “Here, I will test myself, and grow stronger.”

As he stepped inside, the light from the entrance faded, leaving him in near darkness. Every sound echoed—the drip of water, the scuttle of unseen creatures, and the soft groan of shifting stone. Kael’s senses sharpened, every instinct on high alert.

He advanced cautiously, examining each corner and hallway. Traps lay hidden, designed to catch careless hunters. Kael observed carefully, noting the patterns and movements. His first misstep was minor, but a spike shot from the wall, grazing his arm. Pain flared, but he adjusted quickly, learning from the encounter.

Further in, he encountered a group of small, agile monsters with sharp claws. They swarmed him, testing his reflexes. Kael dodged, blocked, and struck with precision, each kill teaching him more about timing, spacing, and the flow of combat. Sweat ran down his face, and his muscles screamed in protest, yet he pressed on.

Hours turned into a grueling exercise of skill and patience. Kael discovered hidden chambers filled with broken weapons and discarded treasures. Each room held lessons in strategy, survival, and cunning. He realized that this dungeon, abandoned and forgotten, was the perfect place to sharpen himself.

Finally, in the deepest chamber, a faint glow emanated from a pedestal. Kael approached cautiously. Upon it lay a fragment of what seemed to be an ancient sword, its edge chipped but radiating energy. Kael felt a pulse of power resonate through his mark, the Status Window reacting subtly.

“This… this is the path,” Kael whispered. “Every dungeon, every trial… it is shaping me. I am not weak. I will survive, I will grow stronger.”

With the fragment in hand and his resolve deepened, Kael exited the abandoned dungeon as the first rays of sunlight pierced the trees outside. His journey was far from over, but he could feel the change within himself—stronger, sharper, more aware. The path of the hunter had begun in earnest.
