Chapter 59:
A-Academy: Five Celestial Guardians
Akihiro moved toward Aihana’s parents, bowing deeply before them.
“I seek your blessing,” he said quietly, voice steady and full of devotion. “To marry your daughter.”
Her mother’s hands flew to her mouth, eyes wide. “Blessing… for her?”
“I love Aihana,” he said, formal yet tender. “I wish to protect her, honor her, and spend my life by her side.”
Tears formed in her mother’s eyes. Her father gripped her mother’s hand tightly. “You have it,” he whispered. “Keep her safe. She is our heart.”
Akihiro bowed again and returned to the center of the hall, angelic energy radiating faintly from him. The ring in his pocket shimmered as if aware of its destiny. He knelt gracefully before Aihana, offering his hand, green eyes locked with hers, reverence and devotion shining in his gaze.
“Princess Aihana,” he said, voice steady yet full of feeling, “you are the light of my life. Will you marry me?”
Her blue eyes glimmered with tears of joy. “Yes, prince Akihiro,” she whispered, radiant and confident.
Applause and gasps filled the hall. Magical light traced the movements of the sisters and angels as they watched. The ballroom seemed to shimmer with approval.
The music swelled. Akihiro offered his hand, and Aihana placed hers in his. Their steps were careful at first, then flowing, a dance that intertwined elegance, magic, and emotion. Golden threads of light followed their movements, binding the room in an ethereal glow.
Laughter, joy, and pride mingled as they moved, the moment intimate and monumental.
Akihiro whispered, “After everything… we made it to this moment.”
Aihana rested her head against his chest, warmth flooding her. “I feel… entirely alive,” she murmured.
Meanwhile, the other sisters joined the dance. Mizuki was swept off her feet by Rei, their subtle glances and playful smiles sparking light between them. Sora twirled around with a young angel, laughter bubbling as Kaori joined in, spinning gracefully, her gown glimmering. Hikari glided beside another angel, a quiet confidence in her movements, guiding them through the dance with fluid elegance. Each sister’s joy and energy wove into the celebration, amplifying the magic and warmth.
As the crowd applauded again, Akihiro gently tugged Aihana’s hand. “Come,” he said, leading her toward the balcony.
Outside, the Earth stretched below, its lights shimmering like stars fallen to a hidden world.
From their vantage point—in Hinako's realm, the kingdom hovered serenely, a golden sanctuary untouched by mortal perception.
The streets of Earth were quiet, but both knew the shadows still lingered. Demons would rise again.
Aihana leaned closer to the railing, her fingers still laced with Akihiro’s. Below them, Earth shimmered like a fragile constellation wrapped in night.
“I can still feel it,” she whispered. “The veil. It’s stronger… but it isn’t steady.”
Akihiro nodded, eyes tracing the faint pulse of light where the veil brushed the horizon. “That’s because you and your sisters reinforced it.”
Aihana’s wings gave a soft tremor. “So it’s holding.”
“For now,” Akihiro answered.
She turned toward him, searching his face. “For now?”
He cupped her cheek, thumb brushing gently along her skin.
“The veil isn’t a fortress. It’s a wound that’s been stitched shut. You’ve made the stitches stronger, but they’ll strain again. The demons won’t stop trying.”
“So we’re only buying time,” she murmured.
“No,” he said, voice steady. “You’re buying strength. Every moment the veil holds is a moment for all of you to grow.”
Aihana breathed deeply, letting the truth settle rather than break her.
“And when they come back?”
Akihiro tightened his hold, a soft smile brushing his lips. “As long as we move forward… as one, no one will endanger the world.”
A brief silence settled between them, the weight of their words hanging in the air. Aihana’s gaze fell to the engagement ring glinting on her finger, and a soft, teasing smile curved her lips.
“So… the future?” she murmured, tilting her head. “What comes next for us?”
Akihiro cupped her face gently, green eyes warm and steady. “Whatever comes, we’ll face it together. You’ve already given me more than I ever could have hoped for. More than centuries of waiting could have promised. You make me feel… alive, Aihana. Truly alive.”
She let out a soft laugh, her hand resting lightly against his chest. “Even now?”
“Especially now,” he whispered, wings folding protectively around them. The golden light of their aura swirled and mingled, subtle threads of warmth spiraling outward, brushing the edge of the veil that stretched over the Earth. The barrier, once fragile, seemed to pulse with renewed strength—a faint reminder of the sisters’ vigilance and the power they had poured into it.
Aihana tilted her head up, their eyes locking. Slowly, deliberately, Akihiro leaned down, and their lips met. The kiss was soft at first, then deepened, filled with the energy of longing and the quiet brilliance of their shared magic.
Around them, the air hummed. Even the stars above seemed to shimmer in acknowledgment, the city lights of Earth far below mirroring the golden threads of their bond. The veil—restored but not invincible—rippled faintly in response, steady and strong for now.
When they finally parted, Aihana rested her forehead against his chest, warmth flooding through her. “No matter what comes… we won’t fall apart.”
Akihiro tightened his arms around her, a quiet, certain smile touching his lips. “Not as long as we move forward… as one.”
A gentle pulse of light rippled between them.
Aihana’s wings unfurled first, slow and luminous, petals of soft radiance stretching into the celestial breeze. A heartbeat later, Akihiro’s wings opened in answer—vast, gleaming, protective—wrapping her glow with his own until the two lights merged into a single, rising brilliance.
Golden light spilled outward, brushing the balcony and fading into the air, touching the Earth below like a promise whispered straight into the fabric of the veil.
Together, wings open and hearts steady, they gazed at the horizon, guardians of each other and of the fragile world beneath them. Shadows might rise, demons might test the veil, but their bond—woven from courage, trust, and love—was stronger than any darkness.
Suspended between worlds, the universe seemed to pause.
Two souls.
Luminous.
And no longer hiding their wings.
