Chapter 6:
Monday Morning God
“Isaac, get up” Em said, shaking him back and forth. He groaned and looked at the clock. It was 11 in the morning.
“It’s my day off”
He rolled over and buried his head in the pillows. Em grabbed his legs and pulled him off the bed, his head making a dull thud on the carpet.
“Holy shit Em, that actually really hurt. You’re lucky I didn’t suffer brain damage or something”
Em was already dressed and had her guns out. She pointed at the TV.
Live footage of Shibuya crossing was accompanied by a newscaster speaking rapidly. Em turned up the volume.
“-companies have agreed to aid in evacuating the area. We’ve heard no word from the government or the deciders guild. The “prophet’s”, as he has been dubbed, message has been broadcasted over several stations. We advise everyone to remain calm, as nothing has been confirmed to be true. Please be aware that some viewers may find the following content disturbing”
A video of Ito began. He sat behind a simple desk in an office chair. He explained god’s eye’s arrival, and how everyone should evacuate.
Em shut off the TV.
“Get your stuff together, and don’t you dare dress up”

Jack, Fuyu, and Etsuko were already at the building when Em and Isaac arrived. A large group of people had already surrounded the building.
“What are they doing here?” Isaac asked, pointing to the siblings. They frowned.
“This is god-related business. Why wouldn’t we be here?”
“You haven’t even fought an angel yet, I think this is out of your league”
Etsuko raised her middle finger in Isaac's face. His eye twitched. He hadn’t had time to condition his hair, all his nice clothes were dirty, and Em hadn’t let him take his heart glasses.
Isaac stomped off towards the entrance.
“Hey, no one’s allowed in there!” said a police officer. Isaac pushed him out of the way and threw open the doors. Em followed him.
After making their way to the top floor, they found Ito conversing with Mizugawa and several important government officials. Mizugawa motioned for the duo to come over.
“We’ve been talking with Ito. I think he’s worth taking note of, at the very least”
Isaac shoved his hands into his pockets and shuffled his feet.
“How do we know he isn’t a god, trying to trick us or something?”
Mizugawa nodded.
“We’ve considered that. We’re trying to work out different ways he could take advantage of the situation. There’s also the logistics of evacuating and keeping everyone out of the area if we do decide to go along with the plan”
He sighed. There was a marked uneasiness in the room.
“I think everyone should just leave and then we can talk about it. Better safe than sorry” Ito said, hands shaking. The door opened and Jesse strode towards Ito. He shrunk back against the wall. Isaac put his hand out to stop Jesse, but he pushed it to the side and grabbed Ito by the shirt.
“What the fuck are you trying to pull here?”
Ito tried to pry Jesse’s hands off, but they remained unmoved. He made a few gurgling noises before hanging his head.
“I’m just trying to save everyone. I don’t want to harm anyone”
“How do you know God will look at Earth?”
“I…I drank the sap. No one knows what that is, but I did, I drank it and-”
“That’s bullshit. If you know about the sap, you know how that deal works. You can do some glass magic fuckery and foretell the future apparently. That’s two things”
“Let him go, Jesse” Isaac said, putting a hand on his shoulder. Jesse didn’t bother turning his head.
“I swear, I drank the sap and now I can do both. I don’t know why. Please, don’t get involved in this. It doesn’t affect you”
Ito’s voice was near breaking. His hands were shaking so much that small bits of glass began to fall out. Jesse grabbed his arm and flung him against the window. It shattered and he flew out onto a rooftop across the street. Jesse planted his feet and leapt after him.
Isaac muttered something under his breath and shot off after them.

“Please, I’m telling the truth”
Jesse pinned Ito against the ground and gripped his throat.
“Why won’t you just leave me alone?”
Jesse leaned forward and stared directly at Ito. Their faces were nearly touching.
“I need you to understand something. I’m a simple god with simple goals. One, I want to live a normal life with my wife and child. Secondly, I need to make sure I’m strong enough to maintain my current status. Mur was fine until that guild decided they had to die. I’m sure they wouldn’t have let me alone if I had refused to help them”
He took a deep breath.
“All this shit you're spewing, it’s messing with my livelihood. There’s no way to get two blessings from the sap. Surely you know how that works. She explains it to every goddamn chump who happens to drink it”
“W-h, w-wh…” Ito’s lips moved but nothing came out.
Isaac landed on the roof and pointed his scythe at Jesse.
“What the hell man?”
Jesse grabbed a nearby loose brick and threw it at Isaac, scoring him directly between the eyes. He fell backward off the edge of the building and was safely caught by the crowd below.
Ito shut his eyes and let out a loud scream. A long, jagged, pane of glass shot out from his head and pierced Jesse’s face. He staggered backwards and tried to remove the spike from his head. Ito used the opening to get on his feet. Two more spikes shot out of his forearms and hands. Blood trickled down over the glass and onto the ground.
Jesse began whispering a prayer, raising his hand high into the air. There was a blinding flash, and a sword appeared in his hand. He dashed at Ito, narrowly missing him, but throwing him off balance. Jesse spun around and managed to cut him clean in half.
Ito’s body began regenerating as his torso fell towards the ground. He slashed at Jesse’s legs, just barely scraping the skin off his knees.
“If you don’t stop I’m going to have to start hurting people!” Ito warned, pointing towards the crowd. Jesse crushed Ito’s face with his heel. He shook the blood off his black boot.
“I don’t know exactly what you asked the sap for, but it’s fucking useless”
He took his sword and began rhythmically stabbing Ito’s chest. He tried to call out, but his vocal chords were still shredded. His hand shakily rose towards the sky. A loud crash rang out.
Jesse turned his head just in time to see every glass window on the skyscraper next to them break at once. The glass shards gathered themselves into a spiky ball shape, levitating over the crowd.
“I’m really sorry” Ito choked out. His eyes were filled with tears and blood, creating a runny orangish mixture.
Thousands of shards of glass shot towards the heads of the innocent.
