Chapter 57:

The letter, Chapter 57

False Saviour

House were set on fire alongside who inhabited it from nobles, while in other parts smoke clouds covered the streets making it nearly impossible to distinguish friend from foe

Knights and guards scattered across the streets trying to catch a glimpse of the Vikings that infiltrated the Kazar capital

“This sector is clean you may go to the next” a sound echoed inside the cloud; they were blind so all that they were capable of it listen

As the knights and guards started to walk away one guards stopped them putting his hand on one’s shoulder

“Identify yourself!” he shouted

Taking a moment the sound replied

“I am from the Kazar, I am not part of any royal family, we need to rush and put off the fire”

“I said, identify yourself, we are team 12, wish team are you from?” asked the guard

Another guard spoke up to the first saying “But there is not—” he was shut by the first

The sound replied “I am from the 7th team, a guard of theirs”

The group went quiet, no reply, the sound noticing so spoke after a moment

“Are you team 7th as well…”

“We…” said the guard “Don’t have such thing as teams”

This was a shock that made him go silent as he replied afterwords saying “Are you sure you don’t have teams?”

“Step out from where you are now—” the guard was sniped with a knife to the head, he fell dead

It was 2 Vikings in disguise pretending to be guards

“Let’s run” said the first as they rushed out the smoke, they were shortly followed after as they went into an alley after another

No matter how long they ran, the guards and knights were on their tail, making it hard for them to meet the rest

“We can’t go near the hideout if they keep on following us” said the second

The first sighed as he pulled a smoke ball, just like the rest “This is such a waste of resources” he said before throwing it at a nearby window, the sound of shattering glass followed by an instant grey cloud

The guards after hitting their heads and falling on their faces a couple of time managed to get out of it, but the criminal slaves were long gone

The knights and guards broke into different houses, some had dead noble lords and ladies, others were fully empty, but one thing they had in common was…

“Where is Gerdon” said Lord Varyon glaring the guards that came in, his hand griping tightly on a paper, the other holding his dead wife on the ground as both his knees kept her back up

A hand smacked the table holding a bloodied paper, it was Lord Varyon

“Explain…” he said to King Gerdon holding his frustration not to snap the neck before him like a twig

“We are working on it—" said King Gerdon before he was cut

“You’ve been saying this for days, let me bring my army here, and we’ll how long they last—” said Lord Varyon, King Gerdon stared him up in anger

“No foreign army shall enter these walls under my rule” said King Gerdon biting his teeth not to yell at him

“Foreign?” said Lord Varyon laughing crazily to himself “We are a foreign army now? I lost my wife and my son is messing, the heir for one of the biggest supporting houses you could ever dream of”

“And what will you army possibly do huh?!” said King Gerdon “Stand shoulder to shoulder on the streets watching the passers? Dig up the capital and rebuild it?”

“At least they won’t be as useless as you are” replied Lord Varyon “You refuse to allow us out, you refuse to let us use our force, and you refuse to wage war with The Varish”

“I wont wage war against the Varish, this is the end of it,” said King Gerdon

“I am starting to think you are the traitor” said Lord Varyon as both the king and the prince opened their eyes wide, feeling insulted

“Or worse” said Lord Varyon “You, are afraid”

A moment of silence went by before King Gerdon spoke up saying “Yes, I’m afraid” staring the ground

This was a spear that struck both the Prince and the Lord before him

“Father you can’t just—” said Prince Rafam before King Gerdon raised his hand silencing him

“You know why?” said King Gerdon “Because they are the only thing that stood between us and the Viking’s might”

“And I don’t say this based on loyalty or gratitude” King Gerdon said “But cheer fear”

He lifted his head up, fear coloured both his eyes and facial features, as he stared the emptiness

“They are demons, if they wish so they can erase all of us, but they refuse to do such things” said King Gerdon “And this what drives me to the point of trembling”

“I don’t know what they have, But They Have It!”

He finally made eye contact with lord Varyon as he said “They were here for as long as we were, and yet they exceed at everything”

“And you better be afraid as well; we better pray that these are not sent by them”

The air went still, none worded out their thought until Lord Varyon spoke in a calm and cold tone saying

“I renounce you”

The king staring the table replied

“Chain him in the dungeons”

The Sigel knights behind him took Lord Varyon away, he did not fight back at all

“But why did you do what you did to their Great Reader if you fear them so much,” said Prince Rafam

“They can just take it if they wish” replied King Gerdon “I have two guesses, either this one was a sacrifice for some reason”

“Or they choose him so we can stop the civil war from undergoing” said king Gerdon

“But didn’t you just say they don’t have any involvement in such things?” said Prince Rafam

“I lied, they must’ve known about it in advance, they might’ve been the reason behind it as well” said King Gerdon “I don’t know what they plan, but all we can dream of is it not being our heads”

The guards went inside the house where Torden alongside his father and brother were seated

“Is this all of them? Was there anything that they held with them” asked a guard

“Yes, there was only 2 to break in, and they did not have any other weaponry” said Lord Kailer

“Our apologies my lords, for what has happened” said A knight coming from behind the guards “The king invites the noble houses inside the castle, to discuss what has happened and the future plans”

“Invite? When will it be?” asked Fraymon

“By sunset my lords, please be there on time, for the streets well be closed by then” said the Knight before he went away while saying “Now if you’ll excuse me, I shall notify the rest as well”

Once the doors closed and the guards went away, Torden took out the paper he had in his back pocket

“Now, lets see what are they demanding,” said Lord Torden

“Wage war with the Varish, if you don’t wish noble blood to spill across the Kazar streets, you have until midnight, this is was is written on it” said Torden

“I still don’t understand” said Fraymon “If the Varish wish for war why not declare it, it is not like they’ll need nor get aid from any other side”

"It is easier to make us fight each other" said Torden

“We will know when we meet the king,” said Lord Kailer “For now, lets go and see who’s still alive”
