Perturbation: A Sunday Morning Story


Li Wei : In many eastern cultures the family name is written first, followed by the given name. Here Li is the family name. Wei is his given name.

Chromodynamics : A branch of physics that deals with the strong nuclear force.

Zao an : Good morning.

Ai ren : Sweetheart, lover.

Weiwei : A pet name that is derived from doubling a given name (Weiwei is the doubling of Li Wei's given name). It shows affection and endearment.

Da-jie : Eldest sister. A formal term.

Fen-jie : (Given name + jie) is how one addresses one's older sister. Less formal than Da-jie.

Xiao-di : Little brother. This is a slightly informal term.

Xiao-Mei : Xiao means little, and Mei is her given name. Xiao-Mei means little Mei. ( Xiao + given name ) is an affectionate form of address used by someone older.

Renormalization: A collection of advanced techniques in quantum field theory, a branch of theoretical physics.

CLO : Chief legal officer.

Er-jie : Second sister.

Didi : Little brother. More affectionate than Xiao-di.

Di-mei : Little sister-in-law. Little brother's wife. Here it is not a reference to her name, An Mei.

Bendan : Idiot. Literally it means 'stupid egg'. Can be an affectionate term used between couples, akin to dummy.

CFO : Chief financial officer.

Si-jie : Fourth sister.

San-jie : Third sister.

Baobei : Baby, treasure.

Wei'er : (Given name ' er) is an affectionate nickname used by older family members.

Li Jiaoshou : Professor Li.

Laogong : Husband.

Wei-ge : Literally it means older brother Wei. ( Given name + ge ) is a term that can be used for older brothers, older male relatives or older male acquaintances.

Jie-fu : Brother-in-law, older sister's husband.

Qin ai de : Darling.
