Chapter 25:

Star I Can’t Reach

Quiet Cameras, Loud Heartstrings

Ranch – Day

The sun bathed the ranch in soft golden light, while a gentle breeze carried the scent of grass and horses across the open fields. The crew was already in position—cameras rolling, booms hovering overhead, lights adjusted to catch every movement. The clapperboard snapped sharply in the director’s hand, signaling the start of the next take.

Liam and Sophie stood at the edge of the arena, poised and ready, eyes scanning the space with practiced focus. Sophie’s horse shifted beneath her, hooves scraping against the soft earth. Stunt coordinators hovered nearby, whispering instructions to one another as camera operators tracked every subtle motion.

“Alright, Emma,” Liam began, voice calm and steady, “we’ll start slow. First, the basics of jumping. Your hands, your posture, and above all… trust between you and the horse.”

Sophie nodded, her heart racing beneath the composed surface she fought to maintain.

“Quiet on set!” the assistant director called as microphones swung closer to catch every sound—the soft rustle of hooves, the gentle slap of Liam’s boots on the arena floor.

First jump.

The horse leapt. Sophie held her balance. Liam walked alongside, his hands subtly adjusting her posture mid-air, invisible to the cameras but precise, as if conducting a silent choreography.

“One more time,” he instructed softly. “Follow the rhythm of the horse. Let it guide you, not the other way around.”

With each successive jump, Sophie’s confidence returned. Her movements grew fluid again; her natural grace resurfaced. Liam’s eyes, however, carried a hidden ache—he knew he couldn’t be as close as he wanted.

The director called out encouragements:

“Great! Reset! Action again in three… two…”

At the edge of the arena, Aleksander leaned against the fence, watching. Calm, calculated, he was a silent weight pressing into the scene—one no one dared challenge.

Ranch – Break

Cameras powered down. Crew dispersed. Liam decided to check on the horses, preparing them for the next sequence.

He walked alone along the fenced paths, the echoes of earlier jumps still lingering in his mind.

From the shadows, Aleksander appeared. Liam hadn’t noticed him until the figure was nearly upon him—no footsteps, no warning, just a controlled presence that carried authority.

“Liam,” Aleksander said, smooth and polite, though each word dropped with deliberate weight.

Liam’s chest tightened. “What do you want?”

“Leave Sophie alone,” Aleksander replied, icy calm. “She’s mine. Think about your career—everything you’ve built. It could disappear.”

Liam’s jaw set. “What are you saying?”

Aleksander’s lips curved faintly, eyes scanning the ranch and the empty paths. “Sophie is… valuable. I know what has been between you. And everything I’ve just said is enough. I trust you understand.”

The words settled over Liam like chains. Aleksander didn’t need to elaborate; the warning was clear in his eyes.

When Aleksander walked away, Liam remained frozen, thoughts tangled—Sophie, her safety, and the silent threat now pulling their strings.

Max approached, noticing the tension carved into Liam’s stance. “What’s going on?” he asked quietly.

“I understand now,” Liam murmured. “This… it’s not just acting. He’s controlling things. And it’s not good.”

Ranch – Day (Continuous)

Cameras rolled again. Crew whispered instructions. Microphones hovered over the arena. Sophie mounted her horse, the familiar weight of the saddle grounding her.

“Remember, breathe with the horse,” Liam reminded her, walking alongside. His hand hovered near hers—steadying without touching. The closeness was both comfort and torment.

The horse sensed her tension. Sophie inhaled deeply, steadying herself as Liam watched her every move, silently guiding her.

“Ready?” he asked softly.

She nodded.

The horse bolted forward, the camera tracking the movement, capturing the elegant arc over the first jump. Liam’s voice floated beside her, quiet and precise: “Shift your weight… relax your arms… follow the rhythm.”

Jump after jump, the horse soared. Sophie’s balance became impeccable; drones captured sweeping overhead shots, Steadicam operators followed at ground level, and close-ups caught the subtle rise and fall of her chest. Liam watched her with a knot of admiration and longing.

But the shadow at the edge of the arena remained. Aleksander watched, silent and unblinking—an ever-present threat.

After the final jump, Sophie dismounted, breathless, face flushed. Cameras zoomed in for the last shot. Liam approached, placing a gentle hand on the horse’s neck.

“You did amazing,” he whispered. “Every jump was perfect.”

Sophie smiled faintly, but her eyes flickered toward Aleksander. “Thanks,” she murmured, worry tightening beneath her voice.

Aleksander turned and walked toward the stables. The cold sense of control lingered behind him. Liam’s fists clenched at his sides.

Max, nearby with a walkie-talkie, caught Liam’s glance. “Everything okay?” he asked quietly.

Liam shook his head. “He’s watching. Always watching.”

The day continued. Horses galloped, cameras rolled, but beneath every frame, tension hummed—Sophie’s skill, Liam’s concern, and Aleksander’s quiet dominance threading through every shot.

Aleksander – Office – Evening

Aleksander sat back in his chair, scrolling through social media and news alerts. His expression hardened. Headlines were neutral, but the comments… those were a humiliation.

Fans weren’t talking about his engagement.

They were talking about Emma and Ethan—about Sophie and Liam.

Social Media Feed:

“Sophie and Liam are electric on screen! #EmmaEthanForever”

“Forget the engagement. Sophie and Liam are pure magic.”

Not one word about him.

Not one.

The world had chosen a story he couldn’t control.

Hotel – Sophie’s Room – Night

Sophie sat on her bed, knees pulled to her chest, when she heard it—Liam’s gentle guitar playing coming from down the corridor. Each chord slid down her spine like a whisper, a thread tying them together no matter how far she tried to run.

His hands danced across the strings, full of emotion she could feel but not decipher.

Her heartbeat quickened. She knew she shouldn’t go to him.

Every note called to her.

Every note warned her.

She followed the melody, not the words, letting it wash over her—desire, fear, and memory intertwining painfully.

Hotel – Liam’s Room – Night

Liam sat on a chair, guitar in his lap, notebook open in front of him. Every chord he played sparked another line, another image, another confession he could never say aloud.

After countless attempts, the words finally settled into place—a full song, a quiet surrender, a story of love he wasn’t allowed to have.

Each verse came naturally, unforced. The melody pulled the lyrics from him like a tide.

When he finished, he exhaled and looked out the window.

The song was complete.

A rock ballad—raw, aching, and his only truth.

TITLE: Star I Can’t Reach

[VERSE 1]

You were a star, burning in the night,

One flash of your light, I was hypnotized.

You kept on rising, drifting out of sight,

No matter how I try, I can’t touch your sky.

[PRE-CHORUS]

Your fire pulled me closer, drew me in,

But every time I reached, you’d start to spin.

[CHORUS]

I chase the shadow of your flame,

I want to hold it, but I can’t call your name.

You shine alone, untouchable, free,

And even if I fall, you won’t fall with me.

One spark, one glance, one fleeting blaze…

You’re the song I can’t own, the star I can’t chase.

[VERSE 2]

You lit a moment I can’t erase,

A quiet storm behind your face.

I thought the gravity between us stayed,

But you kept your distance, drifting far away.

[PRE-CHORUS]

Your fire pulled me closer, drew me in,

Yet the closer I got, the more you’d spin.

[CHORUS]

I chase the shadow of your flame,

I want to hold it, but I can’t call your name.

You shine alone, untouchable, free,

And even if I fall, you won’t fall with me.

One spark, one glance, one fleeting blaze…

You’re the song I can’t own, the star I can’t chase.

[BRIDGE]

Maybe you were never meant for me,

A distant light I wasn’t meant to reach.

But still I burn with what you left behind,

A memory written in the sky.

[FINAL CHORUS]

I chase the shadow of your flame,

Knowing I’ll lose, but I run just the same.

You shine alone, untouchable, free,

And even in the dark, you’re all I see.

One spark, one glance, one fleeting blaze…

You’re the song I can’t own, the star I can’t chase.
