Chapter 12:

Outwitted

En Passant Grandmaster Volume 3

Iori peered around a corner to find various Fairy grunts on patrol. Seeing no opening, she decided to challenge one and effortlessly mated them.

"Congratulations. For beating me, you all win a map of the city. Feel free to explore at your leisure," the foot soldier proclaimed as the arbiter squad dispersed.

"Guess this guy's the tutorial boss. He was only 100 elo," Iori thought as she returned to her hiding place.

She then decided to try sneaking behind one of the walking grunts and sure enough, she could follow him around so long as she remained out of sight. "Lol, loser doesn't even turn around. Talk about lame AI," she snickered.

However, she soon had egg on her face as said grunt responded to her voice and promptly turned around. While this grunt was a more imposing 1000 rated player, he was still no match for Iori. As a prize, the grunt taught Iori a way to view the rating of someone from a distance by using her WWCF cards.

The knowledge was strategically advantageous for Iori as now she could see how challenging their opponents might be. Iori pulled out the map and looked up the place that was supposedly the prison area. It was pretty close by, but was heavily guarded. Worse, it was likely that all the stationary grunts would likely challenge Iori to Gothic chess.

"Ugh, guess I'll study up real quick on Gothic chess," Iori grumbled as she pulled out her WWCF card.

As she was doing this, a horde of grunts suddenly came running towards the area.

"Whoa, whoa, WHOA!? What the fuck!? You can't just have all the guards swarm the base! How the hell am I supposed to do a jailbreak!?"

"The answer is you don't," a voice snarled.

Iori's eyes bulged as she spun around, but no one was there.

"Don't turn your back. The rule is simply that we need to make eye contact to initiate a match. I have made no such contact with you. Now, one word of advise; do not approach the reaper."

And with that, the presence was gone.

Iori slowly turned around and once again found herself completely alone. "That voice... it sounded familiar. Ngh, I should know this, but I can't put my finger on it!"

...

Mimoko glared as she sat restrained in a salon chair with a piece of tape over her mouth. "Ara, ara, no need to scowl," Sorcha smirked as she tilted Mimoko's head back.

She then planted a kiss on the tape covering Mimoko's mouth, causing Mimoko to go red in the face and let out a series of muffled protests.

"Ara, ara. Don't worry, the tape was covering your mouth so I didn't steal your first kiss," Sorcha giggled as she peeled the tape off Mimoko's mouth.

"Peh! You... What is the meaning of this!?"

"Oh, the Fairy League is simply holding you hostage. Now, while I stand guard over you, let's play a little game, shall we," Sorcha smiled as she draped Mimoko in a clear plastic cape.

She then set her phone down and began recording.

"And what's this for?" Mmoko growled.

"Your makeover documentation, that's what. But the exact makeover you get depends on how well you do in my game."

"And if I don't want a makeover?"

"Only if you win," Sorcha sang as she pulled a second phone out of her pocket. "Now, I'm about to show you a game I filmed between my friends. The goal of my game is to simply predict the result. You guess right, I'll leave you be. Guess it wrong, and I give you the makeover of my choice. So Mimoko, who do you think is going to win between Vittoria and Medeucesa?"

Mimoko scowled and replied that it was impossible to predict given how little knowledge she had on the two. Sorcha decided to give it to her and rephrased the question asking instead if Mimoko believed the game would end in a castling checkmate in under 10 moves. This time, Mimoko answered almost instantly with a resounding, "No."

"Ara? And why's that?"

"Simple, it's incredibly rare to get a castling checkmate. I myself have yet to get one, and with the added condition that it be made in under 10 moves, it's just flat out impossible considering both players are above 2300."

"Ara, ara, then that's your answer. Now let's watch the video."

As the video played, Mimoko watched as the game started out with Vittoria moving her pawn to e4 and Medeucesa moving her pawn to e5. Nothing out of the ordinary until Vittoria moved her king to e2 and Medeucesa followed up by moving her bishop to d6.

"Ara, I can see why you were hesitant to pick a winner," Sorcha giggled as Vittoria moved her king to f3.

"Oh, YOU THINK!?" Mimoko retorted as Medeucesa moved her queen to g5.

While things looked bad for Vittoria, the game was still playable for her, until she moved her bishop to c4.

"Ugh. Well, the indigo-haired girl is probably going to win this barring no- ...!"

Mimoko's jaw hung down in horror as Medeucesa moved her knight to h6, but her fears were truly confirmed when Vittoria moved her bishop to e6 and Medeucesa captured it with her f-pawn.

"No, NO! YOU ASSHOLES!" Mimoko shouted as Vittoria moved her queen to e2, allowing Medeucesa to checkmate her with a king's side castle.

"Ara, ara, that's a castling checkmate in 6 moves. Seems you lost the bet. Now lets begin," Sorcha giggled as she grabbed some lipstick and tilted Mimoko's head back.

Mimoko was still in a state of shock and anger, but none the less, obediently puckered up her lips as Sorcha applied the lipstick.

"Ara, ara, you're being so obedient."

"Shut up. I'm only letting you do my makeup."

"And who said I'd just be doing your makeup? You're in a state of the art hair salon after all."

A few minutes later, Sorcha finished with the makeup. To Mimoko's surprise, she did an amazing job, so much that she even praised her for her work.

"Ara, ara. Such kind words. And you'd make a great model."

"Y- You really think that?"

"Ara?"

Mimoko went quiet before mumbling about how she always wanted to be a model like Mizuse when she was younger.

"Ara, ara! So cute. Well, put on a smile, for I'm going to teach you how models always hold a smile. Don't open your mouth though."

Mimoko obliged and put on a smile as Sorcha pulled out a small brush and dipped it in a small contained of clear liquid. She then spread the liquid evenly across Mimoko's lips and let it sit before gently blowing on it.

"Mmph. Mmmph... MMPH!?"

To Mimoko's horror, her mouth had been sealed shut, preventing her from talking.

"Ara, ara. That's the secret; if you want a model to hold a smile for hours, glue her mouth shut while she's smiling," Sorcha giggled as she began removing Mimoko's hair ties.

Mimoko blushed as her hair came tumbling down. While she did look arguably more beautiful with her hair down, she always preferred to style it in twintails as she felt it looked more beautiful. Before she could dwell on the issue too much, Sorcha spun her around and tilted her head into the sink before washing her hair.

The sensation quickly put Mimoko in a blissful state, but once the washing was done, her glare returned. Especially as she saw Sorcha grabbing some orange hair dye and perm rollers.

"Now, first we dye, then we perm," Sorcha giggled as she removed the towel from Mimoko's head and began brushing out her hair.

Mimoko could tell she was in for a humiliating makeover, but not even she could have predicted just HOW humiliating it would truly be.
