Chapter 20:

Plum stupid chess

En Passant Grandmaster Volume 3

Okisato went on guard as Red Reaper approached him and Iori. "So that's why he so feared. You can't kill him and he can revive with a new DESPER to challenge you again," he thought as he began bracing himself for another match.

However, Red Reaper's scowl slowly formed into a smirk as he held up his DESPER and began aiming it at Iori. Under normal circumstances, Okisato would have had complete faith in Iori's ability to win the match, but with her just as rattled if not more so than him at the revelation of Red Reaper's power, he feared it might lead to her being unable to focus.

Acting on instinct, he shoved Iori back behind him and pulled out the DESPER key case.

Red Reaper's scowl quickly returned, as he began to charge towards Okisato. "I don't know what that is, but I won't let you use it!" he thought as he rammed into Okisato, causing the case to fall and all the keys to bounce out as it hit the ground. "What a man, now watch as I kill your girlfriend-"

"ACTIVATE!" Okisato shouted as he threw himself down on two of the scattered keys.

Red Reaper spun his head around as his DESPER began to activate.

Okisato began to chuckle. We'll play standard chess at Jade Shadow Mountain in Lijiang, China. You lose, you get stranded in the Southern Atlantic Ocean at the coordinates of 59° 21' 20.1456'' S 11° 10' 49.6164'' W.

The two quickly vanished from sight, as Iori trembled in place. "Oki-kun manned up and protected me... Heh, heh, really going hard on romancing me. I've never had a guy shield me from danger before."

Calming down, she took notice of the keys and case strewn about the ground. However, as she began gathering up the keys, a swift karate chop to the shoulder knocked her out.

"Quite lucky that boy saved your skin. Had you been in top form, you wouldn't be lying there on the ground, unconscious," Melania snarled as she glared down at Iori.

...

Elsewhere, Plum had begun his game with Yuusuke.

"You think you can beat me? I'm Plum Stupid Purple," Plum declared as he opened the game by moving his pawn to d4.

Yuusuke smirked and moved his pawn to a5. "I heard this move was done by Magnus Carlsen, so if I play it, I'll win," he thought as Plum moved his knight to c3. "There it is! Now I can get the rook out!" he thought as he moved his rook to a6.

"What you doing, lad?" Plum asked as he moved his pawn to g3.

"Uh, I'd ask you the same thing," Yuusuke sighed as he moved his pawn to d5.

"It's a free pawn! You blundered!" Plum shouted as he captured said pawn with his knight.

"Wow, this guy really does live up to his name... I'd better not lose or I'm screwed for the rest of my life," Yuusuke thought as he captured the knight at d5 with his queen.

"Wot!? Are you bringin' the queen out? You must be plum stupid. Never bring the queen out early," Plum ranted as he moved his knight to f3.

Utami, meanwhile, had regained consciousness, though wished she hadn't as she watched the game unfold. "These two are playing horribly. Though Shousen-san is at least playing somewhat better. If he blunder though, I'll file a motion to revoke him as vice-president of the chess club," she thought as Yuusuke moved his pawn to e5.

Plum followed up by moving his pawn to b3, while Yuusuke moved his pawn to e4. He then moved his bishop to d2, allowing Yuusuke to capture his knight on f3 with his e-pawn.

"No! I like me horsey!" Plum cried as he moved his bishop to c3.

"Then don't leave him hanging," Yuusuke scoffed as he captured the pawn at e2 with his f-pawn.

"You think you're the boss of me!? Check, you wanker!" Plum shouted as he captured the pawn at e2 with his queen.

Yuusuke simply slid his rook to e6, pinning the queen, and forcing Plum to make a retreat by castling queen's side.

"Didn't know you could castle," Yuusuke shrugged as he captured the queen on e2 with his rook.

"I can castle, you dolt! I know how to play chess," Plum retorted as he captured the rook on e2 with his bishop.

Yuusuke shrugged and moved his bishop to b4, prompting Plum to move his h-rook to g1. A bit stunned at just how stupid Plum was, Yuusuke waited a few seconds before capturing the free bishop on c3 with his bishop. Plum then attempted to attack the queen by moving his bishop to c4, but Yuusuke simply moved his queen to g5. Then Plum blundered into mate by moving his rook to d2.

"Phew, now I win. Check," Yuusuke grinned as he captured the rook at d2 with his queen.

"What do you mean? You haven't won nothing," Plum retorted as he moved his king to b1.

"But I'm about to," Yuusuke grinned as he moved his bishop to f5.

"No your not!" Plum retorted as he moved his rook to d1.

"Uh, I just did. Checkmate," Yuusuke scowled as he captured the pawn at c2 with his bishop, winning the game.

"NOOOOOOO! I'm Plum Stupid! How could I lose to a wank like you!?"

"Alright, Master Plum. You're out of the game now," an arbiter sighed.

Plum began to throw a fit, but the arbiter squad effortlessly carried him off.

"You see that? I won. Mimicking Magnus' crazy moves paid off!" Yuusuke gloated.

"I'll inform Mimoko-sama of how horrendously you played once we rescue her," Utami glared.
