As if he were the embodiment of a fairytale: his stygian hair which flowed down the center of his back, his skin adorned by the sun. He had the glare of a soldier, but the voice of a saint. There was a tinge of nostalgia in his presence, followed by a deep longing in his shadow. He took me by the hand, led me down and across the hills enveloped by autumn colored grass. At one of the hill’s peaks, I saw wheat that fluttered and rivaled the light of the horizon.

When my eyes adjusted, there were the sights of vendor stalls, banners, and houses upon stone platforms. There were the sounds of chirping and serenade, somehow masking the exchanges of compliments and silver. In particular, I was drawn to a florist and a passing knight, who seemed to flirt as if they were married. Around the corner of the pathway, I found him again, running circles around the fountain after a boy who shared his features, and another atop his shoulders whom he secured with both arms, each a few feet shorter than himself.

That night I watched how to roast meat over the warmth of a campfire. In that dream, I saw Vesta laughing.

In the morning the night became a fading memory. I neither knew the color of his eyes nor the sound of his voice. Only that in my heart was proof of his existence. A dream that influenced my reality.
