Chapter 14:

Five Adventurous Idiots Invade A City

Why Does Nobody Find Us Attractive?

"We're finally here!"

Nikko stepped off of the bus, spreading his arms out and taking in the atmosphere of the fresh city.

"Matsuyama, your king has arrived!"

Reina slapped Nikko in the back of the head.

"You're going to chase every girl in the city away with your disgusting ego."

"Come on, don't ruin my fun."

Toshiharu was anxious to get moving.

"Let's get to the hotel. I'm tired, and I need to lay down."

"You're tired from sitting for two hours?"

Toshiharu looked over to Juzo, who snarked mockingly at him.

"Yeah, I guess."

Shinobu stretched out her arms.

"I'm tired too. We should rest before going out."

Nikko sighed.

"Fine. The hotel is not too far from here. Follow me."

A short walk across a few blocks led them to their hotel. Just outside the doors, Nikko called everyone into a huddle.

"Okay, there is one small issue. Technically, only four people are allowed per room, but we have five."

Reina was confused.

"And that's a problem, why? Didn't you book two rooms?"

"Umm…"

"Are you kidding me? Shinobu and I have to share a room with you savages?"

"Hey! I saved a lot of money by booking one room! If you want a seperate room, go buy one right now."

"...I don't have enough money."

"Then follow my plan. One group of three of us will check in and take all the luggage to the room, while whoever is left will stroll in after like they're already a guest at the hotel. Their luggage will already be in the room, so the staff won't notice anything. Everyone got that?"

Mostly everyone nodded, so it was time for the plan to start. Nikko began to assemble the groups.

"Okay, Reina and Juzo will come with me to check in. Toshiharu and Shinobu will wait here. Ready?"

Reina and Juzo took everyone's luggage and hauled it into the lobby, while Nikko went to the front desk to check-in.

"Hello, I'm here to check into my room."

The attendant looked up from her computer.

"Okay, what's your name?"

"Nikko Murano."

"Murano… here it is. Room for four, correct?"

"Uh, sure."

The attendant looked around and only saw the three.

"But there are only three of you."

Nikko started to sweat.

"Oops. Must've made a mistake on the website."

"How did you mistake a four for a three? The website is quite clear."

"Well, I'm quite stupid."

Annoyed, the attendant slid the key to him.

"Room number 3"

"Thanks."

Nikko led his pack mules down the hallway to their room.

"1… 2… 3. Here it is."

Nikko opened the door for the other two, who stumbled in with their bags. Once the bags were set down, they took a moment to examine the room. Reina wasn't too impressed.

"Why are there only four beds?"

"I told you that only four people are allowed."

"If your plan was to share a bed with me or Shinobu, I'll kill you right now."

"Hey, calm down. Me and Juzo will share."

Juzo wasn't aware of that.

"Wait, what?"

"Moving on, I'll tell Shinobu and Toshiharu to come now."

Nikko whipped out his phone and sent off a text. He and the others sat down and waited, but several minutes passed without Shinobu or Toshiharu arriving. Juzo began to think something was wrong.

"There is definitely something wrong. They should've gotten here not long after you texted them."

Nikko was convinced.

"Oh my God, you're right. They've probably been murdered, or even kidnapped."

Reina was worried and didn't want to waste time talking.

"Shut up, we need to go look for them."

The trio left the room and turned into the lobby. They were met with a bizarre scene. Toshiharu was sitting on a chair crying while Shinobu was borderline arguing with the attendant. Reina went to check on Toshiharu.

"Are you alright? What happened?"

Toshiharu wiped away his tears.

"We tried to just walk in, but the lady got mad. She asked what we were doing, but I started to panic. She said she was going to call the police. I don't want to be arrested."

Reina grabbed his hand.

"Get up, you're not going to be arrested. Let's try and sort this out."

Toshiharu got up to his feet, trying to stop his sniffling.

"Okay…"

They walked over to the others, who were trying to sort out what was happening. Nikko seemed to be close to a compromise with the attendant.

"So, we can have five people in the room, we just need to pay a fee?"

The attendant nodded.

"Yes, that's all we need."

Nikko pulled out some money and handed it to her.

"Is everything fine now?"

"Yes."

Nikko exhaled annoyingly, not pleased with the exchange.

"Come on guys, let's go back."

Everyone packed into the room, and Shinobu tried to explain what happened.

"Nikko, your plan was terrible."

"What? How?"

"Well, it would work at a normal hotel, but we're at a small, family run place. They only have like, five rooms, it'd be impossible for us to sneak past the attendant."

Nikko now understood the problem.

"Oops. Well, now we know for next time."

Shinobu was too tired to try to talk back to Nikko, and looked around the room. Aside from most of the room being beds, the dark green walls and old wooden furniture stood out.

"Why does the room feel like an old person's house?"

Reina snapped her fingers.

"That's it! I couldn't figure out why it all felt familiar, but it's like my grandparents' house!"

Juzo didn't know if that was a good or bad thing.

"Did you like your grandparents house?"

"No. I spent most of my time there playing outside."

Nikko sprang up.

"Then let's go do that. I don't care if you're tired; we're going out. I don't know how long I can spend in this old-timey room."

Toshiharu, who was lying on the bed, whined.

"I don't wanna."

Before Nikko could yell at him, Shinobu sat down beside him.

"I know that you're tired and just had a bad experience, but let's go out. It'll help you forget about your worries."

Toshiharu thought for a bit.

"Okay."

He slowly rolled off the bed and onto his feet, then trudged to the door.

"Where are we going?"

Reina jumped up.

"I'm hungry, let's go eat!"

Nikko took a quick look through his phone.

"Ooh, a good sushi place is only a couple blocks down. You guys wanna go there?"

Everyone nodded in unison.

"Then let's get going!"

The group arrived at the restaurant somewhat early, catching a table before the dinner hour's rush. Reina took a menu and listed off some items.

"I want the tuna! And the salmon! Ooh, look, they have squid! What should I get!?"

Nikko fed off of her energy.

"Worry not, Reina. We shall try all of them!"

Unfortunately, Juzo had to ruin the fun.

"As much as I would like to order everything, I don't really wanna sell some organs to pay it off."

Reina looked disappointed.

"Fine. At least let me have the tuna."

After the group received their food and started to eat, Shinobu started up a conversation.

"Excuse me if I'm being rude, but how did you three become friends? You seem like such an unlikely group."

Toshiharu was also interested.

"Yeah, you've never talked about your guy's past. What happened?"

Nikko started to stretch his arms out.

"I guess it's time to tell the story. Buckle up, kids, it's probably gonna take a while."
