Chapter 18:

Touch and Go

I Swear I've Got a Good Reason...

"Morning Subaru."

Yuko - Onomiya's mother, stood at the ajar door and looked in warmly, while her daughter clung over Subaru on the spongy floor mat.

"Uh... morning..."

Subaru said quietly as the resident teen hung all over him.

Did my mum ever tell her she had a boy... not a second girl...?

Subaru wanted to protest at his state, or ask for assistance, but either risked waking to draped girl too much, while Onomiya's mother merely chuckled a little.

"She'll be half asleep for hours, so just push her off you when you've had enough."

Mrs Takashi then simply walked away, surprisingly content and without a care, perhaps to go make a little breakfast for the guest.

Could it be that easy to get out of this... little situation...?

A good shove and she rolled away onto her back, totally clear of him, and there Onomiya softly heaved her breasts above her as she breathed soundly and slept on.

Subaru sat up and settled himself, before he crept out to leave her be.

Lured to the kitchen by something tasty, he found Onomiya's parents already halfway through their breakfast, and gathered from the clock on the wall that he still had plenty of time to do everything he needed to, hopefully.

"Have a good night?"

"Mostly..."

Subaru avoided making eye contact and sat at the Takashi table.

"I hope Ono didn't wear you out too much."

Yuko placed a topped up plate before the guest.

"No I'm fine... thank-you Mrs Takashi."

"I'd say she's missed having her little game buddy around... it's been a while since she's had anyone over you know."

Huh... you wouldn't pick that from how she's been acting around me... or am I the only one she's comfortable showing her nerdy side to...?

"Is it alright to start without Onomiya?"

Subaru looked at the empty plate sitting beside him.

"Yeah, she sleeps in till the last possible second, but always manages to catch the train on time... somehow... but she certainly didn't get that from me though..."

"Thank-you for the meal then..."

"You're very welcome dear."

Mostly able to finish of the good spread, Subaru thanked Onomiya's also departing parents again, before only waving farewell to the still sleeping daughter. Returning to his home was simple enough, then getting changed for school too, while Subaru figured he still had just enough time to catch the earlier and less crammed train he needed to get there.

Junko slapped her hands against Subaru's desk and looked down upon him with a mix of emotions.

"Did you spend the night at Takashi's place!?"

Why do you...? Onomiya must have told her...? I wonder why...? I know you were fairly keen about me... but is this the best place to be having a private conversation...?

Subaru sat there stunned for a handful of seconds, while the pair had attracted a few other early arrived eyes their way, after Junko's sudden and dramatic entrance.

"Yes... that's true..."

She pressed her annoyed and frustrated green leer closer, and grew quieter.

"She said you spent nearly the whole night 'having a good time'!"

Subaru gulped, as Kei apparently heard and looked at him with a blushed face and accusing eyes too.

"It was just an old game we used to... - a console game! We just played an old console game together!"

Subaru quickly clarified as the listeners didn't seem to take his initial words kindly, but then Junko blinked her irritation away with some relief and understanding.

"Oh..."

She withdrew from Subaru's desk, and then noticed Kei watching on from right beside them.

"Eh... Well I knew that... I was just... concerned, that's it, since you were ill after all..."

She stayed blushing, while nervously shimmying about and defensively fiddled with her fingers.

"It was after I got better... and I'm totally fine now."

Subaru faked a smile, still nervous about the continuing leer he was getting from his side.

"Well that's.... very good to hear."

Junko likewise still fidgeted a little, but slowly wandered back to her own seat.

"Onomiya Takashi? From out class Onomiya?"

Kei whispered over once Junko had gone away, and whirling her head about to see the mentioned girl was still a no show to the classroom.

"Yeah... she's an old friend, who lives nearby..."

Subaru whispered back, without looking over.

"Does... she know... you know?"

"No."

"But you stayed the night?"

"Look... I didn't take my clothes off in front of..."

Subaru peered sideways for a moment, to see Kei strongly blush, as she looked to him with some shock, but then the blue duo arrived, so the whispering stopped.

"Hey it's Subaru... I thought you'd moved away..."

Okamoto wobbled and jiggled in with a slow wave, while Toyamo stood directly between Subaru and Kei after they all exchanged friendly greetings.

"So you're feeling much better?"

"Yeah I'm okay."

She leaned down a little closer with some relief.

"Only okay? Are you sure you're alright then?"

"Yeah."

Suddenly Ritsu glanced back, before she whisked about, puffing her skirt before Subaru's face.

"Akashi Kei... were you peeking at me just now!"

She said sternly, but quietly.

"What?! No..."

"You are so sprung."

Ritsu pointed at Kei's still blushed face.

"No... It wasn't that!"

"He doth protest too much..."

Akane added from her now occupied seat.

With Toyamo's normal sized skirt, it wasn't possible to see anything - except perhaps for a fine gap between her trim thighs.

"You so were..."

Kei looked away, becoming even redder, but with less embarrassment.

Ritsu didn't seem all that angry though, in fact with Kei looking right away, she smiled a little, before patting Subaru's shoulder gently and went for her own seat behind him.

That's a... different reaction than what you'd expect...

During lunch break, when the duo had gone to the cafeteria, Subaru had another girl arrive before his desk, and this time it was Kei, while she too looked somewhat unimpressed, even annoyed, as she glanced about, before commanding.

"Subaru... come with me a sec would you?"

Is Kei mad too...? I mean she looks real cross... or is she upset because I brought up what happened at my place...? Or is she still ticked off from that misunderstanding with Ritsu...? I'll explain it better if she's worried about me... but why would she be so mad about what I do...?

Kei silently led Subaru away, before strutting off ahead a bit, up the corridor to the quieter end of the building and into the mostly abandoned set of restrooms past the empty classrooms.

"I know it sounded bad... but I only played video games with Onomiya, and yes it was at her place... but nothing else happened..."

Subaru blurted out after he entered, finding her next to the door with her arms folded before her, being honest, except for the last little bit.

Kei listened, quietly and as he voluntarily explained his actions, and only replied with a little 'huh', while she stayed near the door.

"She's a bit of a nerd, and loves games and anime and stuff, really..."

Kei gave a tiny soft smile and watched him wave his hands about a little, till be stopped again.

"Subaru, I believe you."

"Thanks. I was just hanging out with Takashi - because we used to a long time ago, but she still thinks I -"

Kei raised her hand to stop him, and Subaru did immediately.

"I think you are quite alright to go to other peoples places..."

She said loudly, and then very quietly whispered something serious.

"I think someone is listening in on us..."

Kei quietly stepped right up to the door, before whisking it open in a flash, and nabbing the student just outside by their jacket and pulled them in through the open doorway.
