Mugendai Hane: Everything is Born of Stardust

The fragrance of honey drifted in the air, mixed with a subtle brewing of wine. Under the careful watch of the golem decorated with hydrangea wreaths, despite taking advantage of his small figure that transformed berry bushes into fortress walls, a little over a meter in height was hard to miss. The giant pointed out his whereabouts to the children who ran amuck, sacrificing his glory for the sake of its own peace.

As the boy nestled into his new primitive hut, he was suddenly toppled by a cheerful โ€œnecklaceโ€.

โ€œFound you!!โ€ she said while pinning down her traumatized playmate, her small fangs glinting whilst she smiled from ear to ear.

The memory changes again. Two palms sheltered a small sapling, emitting essence visually similar to pollen. She was alone at the time, though accompanied by the melodic rain that danced around her as they met the earth. She had ears pointing behind her head, green lilies worn as a crown and a scarf, and eyes the color of gold, though far surpassing their luster.

She asked for the sapling to not be lonely, and so appeared an endless forest.

She wished to go to sleep, and so the ground became covered in a soft moss.

She asked not to be cold, and so there came deer, rabbits, and birds.

Then she asked for a friend, and the skies asked for a name.

But amity couldnโ€™t sustain a human. As winters departed and spring returned their heart no longer thawed, sold to an immeasurable loneliness stretched beyond shadow. As the former slept in the cradle of her creations, the latter smiled wryly.

She once awoke to the crackling of flame permeating the dark. Underneath the orange blaze, behind the pair of usually resigned eyes, was a hint of warmth.

โ€œWhereโ€ฆwhy was I born?โ€

She stared for a while, for she was used to the animals who cried when they were hurt and ran circles when they were happy, never having spoken. She squinted her eyes and smiled gently, feeling a sense of responsibility for the first time as she pondered.

[โ€œThe origin of this timeline is in the future, yet we live forwards. But because we refuse to have been born from nothing, they will be born of your blood. Youโ€™re proof. Proof that we believe in our existence.โ€]

โ€œYou seem to have talent for this, could you be a regressor?โ€ He was a heavily bearded man, standing at over 3 meters with a disheveled appearance, his grey hair reaching his waist hiding strands of white. A strong apricot color coursed through his veins, and he was no less muscled than a stallion. He had a habit of furrowing his brows and squinting at people, unfortunately earning some degree of enmity from others.

A whole third of the smithy housed a giant iron pot. Inside, distorted pieces forged from glass to diamond, from broken handles to shattered bows mixed together clumsily. Near the furnace a sassy elemental slept on their pile of gems, resembling the behavior of a fairytale dragon.

Special pieces were displayed in Bmortz casings, a type of relic metal that turned transparent under rune light. There were a set of boots which could walk on natural mana and a scythe whose blade fluctuated as solidified lightning, both inspired by myth. To the right a dark diamond-shaped gem floated, emitting an aura like ink seeping into water. Further down two bright talons were strung on a yellow vine, cawing like crowsโ€ฆ

[โ€œWhen you finally found your way home you were an empty shellโ€ฆdevoured by <>.

An anomaly born from nowhere, recreating the tales of old. A change in identity, a present that overwrote the past.โ€]
