Chapter 4:

Summer Brought By The Girl From Those Dreams

Those Dreams I Had Those Nights

May 2/2012 — Real World

Actually…
I’m not good at asking for things I want.

Me and Mumma were walking back from shopping when I saw it —
a Charizard figure shining in the store window.

It was too cool!!

I stopped there, spacing out while looking at it.

Mumma turned around to look for me.
“Hey Hiyura, what happened?”

I shook my head.
“Nothing.”

I want that figurine. It’s too cool.
But I don’t have the courage to ask for it…

Hmm… I am bored.

First week of summer vacation, me lying on the floor.
I have already completed my summer homework.
I defeated the Champion, became Pokémon Master, and also wiped out all the evil organisations.

My journey has been completed.

Hmm… I am bored.

It is summer vacation, and I wanted to play with Arcanine.
But I don’t have the courage to ask Mom if we could go to Kamizo’s place.

“Hey, Hiyura.”

Mumma peeked into the room.
“Would you like to go play with Kamizo?”

Mumma carried a big smile while asking.
My eyes were glowing because of the light radiated by her smile.
She looked like the greatest hero in this world.

Yup! She is my new number 1 now.

I nodded my head consecutively in response.
I hugged her. “How did you know I wanted to?”

“Idiot. I am your Mom, I know everything about you.”

How on the damn earth I guessed it? I asked him because I was planning to go shopping with Kamizo’s Mumma.

But… I remember I once turned him down to buy a toy. I didn’t bother about it much, but he never asked for anything after that, even when he looked like he wanted it.

So me and Kamizo Mumma might need two or maybe three hours, so play well until then.
I waved a bye to them.

I looked at Kamizo beside me, holding the volume of Haily and Mutt—the one in which we had a new male character.
She extended her hands with the book.
I did a double nod.
We played the adventures with Arcanine. It was fun.

“Hmmm…” she looked at the book with distant eyes.

“What happened? Let’s play the next scenario,” I tilted my head and asked her.

“Adventures completed.”

Oh, I see.
I glanced at the clock. It had already been two hours since our moms left for shopping. There was still one more hour before they came back.

She spoke up again.

“I already completed all the adventures many times. What should I do now?”

I remembered that feeling… when my journey in my Pokémon world had ended.
Kamizo-chan looked sad.

I puffed up my cheeks with a big smile, raised a thumbs up trying to imitate my father.

“It’s fine.”

“We could just make our own adventure.”

Her expression tightened as she asked, “But how?”

“L-like we are trapped on a deserted island, with Arcanine as our main hunter!”

“Or maybe all three of us become Power Rangers and fight the evil forces. I’ll be red, you’ll be pink, and Arcanine will be the blue ranger!”

“Bark! Bark!”

“Ehh? What is Power Rangers?”

“What! You don’t know Power Rangers?”

She paused and moved her innocent face side to side in denial.

“Well, Power Rangers are some kind of superheroes who save the earth from evil.”

“Eeh? But Yukki is a dog. How can he be a Power Ranger?”

I grinned, adjusting my imaginary glasses.

“It’s fine. In the world of fantasy, we don’t need to be restrained by anything.”

Her expression shifted into complete surprise.
I had been talking nonsense for a while—I wasn’t sure if it would cheer her up.

She did a double nod.

I narrowed my eyes. I didn’t know what that meant. I looked at Arcanine.

“Bark! Bark!…It’s fine. She’s ready to play a new story.”

Arcanine saved me again, I guess.

“Yoshhh! We will play Pirates’ Journey.”

“This bed here will be our ship and…”

It was fun shopping with you, Kamizo Mumma. Someday, let’s do it once more.

I waved bye to Kamizo and Arcanine.

“So, did you have fun playing with her?” Mumma asked while returning.

“Yup, it was too fun. I want to play again.”

I wonder if I was able to lift her mood. Her almost expressionless face is very hard to read.

But yeah… maybe I should also think about some new journey now.

*Tring-trong-tring-tring*

The same ring of the telephone echoed—the one that always had the same melody.

“Hiyura! Take the call,” Mumma said.

I, who was already dashing towards the telephone, picked up the call.

“Hello.”

“Yes, this is the Miyamoto residence.”

“Aara, is this Hiyura-kun?”

I paused for a second to think who this might be.

“I am Kamizo’s mother.”

“Ohh, I will hand the phone to Mumma.”

“Wait! Actually, I have work with you.”

I tilted my head in confusion.

“Have you completed your homework?”

Me visiting Kamizo’s house again, but this time to help her do the summer work, which she has only two days left to complete.

“Welcome, come in. Thank you for coming to help our Kamizo.”

“This girl refused to do the homework till now, and yet she hasn’t even touched it.
Hiyura-kun, please help her do it.”

I can see Kamizo pouting in the corner of the living room, retreating back to her room.

“Hiyura-kun, you can go to Kamizo’s room. Today, make her do the homework even if you have to be forceful.” Kamizo Mumma said with fire in her eyes.

This is actually unexpected. I always thought Kamizo would be very obedient.
But I guess she is not good with studies.

Huhuhuhu! Today, I will show her the ability of the number 1 of class.
Well obviously… what else do you expect from a true Pokémon master?

I entered her room. She was already sitting at her desk, pouting. I spotted Arcanine sitting calmly in the corner.

Normally I would have given him a grand hug, but the air in the atmosphere doesn’t look like that mood.

“Yosh, Kamizo, let’s start with Maths. We have to complete this assignment book. But let’s try and do some part of it.”

“Ask me if you get any doubts.”

After a few suspiciously long seconds, she did a double nod.

Lately I’ve started doubting if she is imitating my signature double nod.

Playing around with Arcanine while she’s doing homework would feel wrong, so I think I’ll also solve the assignment again for practice.

Just a little more than half an hour must have passed.
Both of us didn’t speak a word. Both of us were focused on our work.

I was in my top condition — I’m throwing each question at incredible speed. I’ve already completed more than half.

But wait, why hasn’t she asked me any doubt till now?

Ohh, I see. She might be too shy to ask. As a good topper, I should offer to help her.

I looked up at Kamizo.

She looked up too and turned her notebook towards me.

“Completed.”

I thought I misheard the word “doubt” as “completed.” I made a face like ‘please-repeat-what-you-just-said’.

“Maths completed.”

I didn’t believe her and checked the notebook.
I ran through it really fast and really carefully.

Indeed, she has done all the work with 100 percent accuracy.

I dumbfoundedly looked at her.

“See? It’s this easy and quick to complete.”

“Even if I had started tomorrow I would have completed it… nom-nom-nom-nom.”

“BUT Mumma keeps nagging me to do it… nom-nom-nom-nom-nom.”

There it is — her talkative version.

Knock-knock.

Kamizo Mumma came in with snacks.

“Is everything going smoothly?”

“Hmphh! I already completed my Maths homework.”

“Ohh, I see. That’s good. Keep going.”

I looked at Kamizo Mumma with the same dumbfounded face.

She might have understood my suffering, so she explained:

“Ahh, actually, she is very intelligent, but she has no interest in studies.”

I could feel myself turning into a pencil drawing after thinking she would be bad at studies.

“Hmphh! I will come 1st in the next semester, then you won’t bother me.”

“Is that a promise, Mumma?” she asked with a tsundere face.

“Yup, sure honey.”

Quiet girls sure are mysterious.
They are to be feared.
