Chapter 12:
Empire of Dragons
The streets of New York were lit up like a fireshow
Armored dragons, most of them biped and clad in the best armor dragon tech could buy, were pushing the humans back whence they came.
One dragon in particular, a tall female using her Half-Shift form, was leading her group of troops
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She had the human pinned, maneuvering behind him with a flip of her body
Her right arm encircles his neck, left arm hooking into place
She wraps her legs around him to lock him
her squadmate is ordered to take the weapon.
The human struggled to free himself, her appearance betraying her strength.
She opens her mouth, fangs protruding from teeth
Those fangs pierce into soft skin,
sending cytotoxic venom into his body
He’ll live.
She wipes her mouth with the back of her hand
Surveying the battlefield, she sees many fallen humans
either being fanged or shackled as the dragons overpower them
The humans fire their weapons
and none pierce the material of dragon armor.
A tiny metallic egg floats beside her. It’s center flickers a blue light to display a holographic message.
“Lisle!” that’s the commander.
“Yes, Riv’ve?”
“Grab your squad and head into that mall. Our sentries spotted humans inside.”
She nods, and off-camera she takes a deep breath.
Her squad is seven biped dragons
each of them capable of nimble movement that would break a human
except her mate—a big dragon with a muscular build
Inside the mall, power had been shut off
They don’t know what they could be walking into.
“Helmets on,” she orders them.
The helmets respond to their thought-command, instantly covering their face and activating the HUD
“I smell perfume,” says the shortest biped, “from that bank.”
Lisle’s arms quiver as they near the bank, “Don’t forget to use non-lethal rounds.”
Upon approaching the bank, a glowing girl jumps out at them—
She grabs Lisle’s rifle, the two ladies are stuck in tug of war
The rest of the squad checks the bank
Humans are huddled together; hair matted and faces covered in tears
Lisle pins the girl and notices the wings hiding behind her yellow cardigan.
‘A fairy.’
“Why do you fight us, Fae?” Lisle demands an answer, “we kill no humans.”
The faerie girl didn’t answer.
Her mate is busy reassuring the humans that they will be safe in draconic custody.
Shackles are placed on all of them
Gentle sobs leak out
and fear of an unknown future increases for the captives.
“Tch.”
Lisle’s helmet retracts
Her fangs reform as the venom builds within their hollow casing
The faerie uses this moment to throw dust at the face of her attacker
She kicks Lisle off and zips into the bank
“Calte!”
A tiny grey dragon heeds her command and leaves its hiding spot behind the counter
The faerie’s speedy flying catches the squad off guard.
Outside, her first instinct is to rush for the sewers
For now, they will hide there.
***
Lisle emerges from the mall with the humans in tow
Hearth Wyrms, the armored dragons used for ground warfare, canvased the area
a lone wyrm was using his tail to scratch behind his horns
“Damn this armor.”
he removes his helmet to get a good scratch
squadrons of dragons fly overhead
alongside them are dropships with searchlights
silver eggs follow them to scan the area
bringing so many tools to a battlefield seems like overkill
but their leader requested this
he knows humans are too good at hiding.
Lisle sits on a fallen pile of rubble
this is her first time on Earth
she hated that her reason for being here is to fight and not vacation
this planet, the home of the English language, will probably be destroyed
before she can enjoy it
she hates that, so she grabs a rock and swings with all her force
casting that random rock into the distance
‘I hope it doesn’t hit anybody’
“Show those fangs with a smile, Lissy.”
her Other gives a heavy pat on her back
“!! I’d rather not.”
If they are relieved from duty for the rest of the day, they could…
“Hey, want to fly to the beach, if we get released early?”
he tilts his head, mulling over it
‘Maut, I hate water.’
“Sure but I’m not touching it.”
Lisle’s lips curl, a flash of a sparkle in her eyes
“Really? You’ll go? UH-MAZING!”
her arms shake with glee and she taps her leg on the ground
“You know I can’t swim.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll carry you.”
“I’m too heavy for you.”
“Not when my body starts to coil! You know I’ve got the coil force of…”
Human measurements are so confusing to Lisle, “25 twips! Err, pounds.”
“Okay okay I conceded.”
Ashuton rallied parts of the dragon space fleet to invade earth cities. Humans were captured and detained, and eventually moved into towers. These towers had their own little societies in them. Things stayed this way for a while. Eventually, Ashuton’s father Aronne (Aaron) negotiated a peace treaty and apologized for his son’s actions.
Ashuton was imprisoned for his actions, but people took dragons more seriously. Laws were passed to protect them. Dragons on earth are still bound to the moral code. Ashuton tried to help them recover from it.
In the future after these battles, Anomalies and humans live together in greater capacities. Conditions are slowly slipping back into how they were, despite the new laws. Earth becomes a pit stop for visiting aliens. Future invasions by malignant aliens is prevented by dragons, they claim earth as their planet and protect it heavily.
