Chapter 13:
Kingdom of light: Stories untold
Twin stars brought together,
Their paths intertwine,
Once more…
Astar brought her sister back to Star, a hill in the middle of nowhere. Astra constantly glances back at her sister. Every time she does, Astra is always looking elsewhere, like a kid who was forced to go somewhere with their mother. Inside was just a normal cave; only Astar knew what it truly held. She holds out her hand, in the palm of her hand, a key materialized, alongside a keyhole. It floats in the middle of the small cavern. Astra stares in awe at the strange lock as her sister opens it, the space ripping open to reveal a shortcut leading to a completely different area. The thunder capital on the Lawless Lands, Nari. Astar somehow managed to make contact with the Old God of Space, and he allowed her access to the lands whenever she felt like. She would spend her time here whenever she felt like it. Almost all the people living here know her; she's done everything she can to help the people out. The Lord of Nari, Raijin, died years ago, but the son of the Lord before him took over soon after, so the original family continued to reign over. They take a seat at the table in Astar's home, silence overtakes the room. Astra opened her mouth to speak, but no sound was produced. She was unsure what to say.
" Are you...my sister?" She finally asks, a gentle smile envelops Astar's face as she leans back in her chair. " You don't remember much, huh?" Astra nods her head. Astar lets out an amused sigh before thinking about what to do, " I um, remember a bit." Astra spoke up, which was very much like her. She was always timid and took her time when speaking. If she wanted something from Astar, she would stand around her for a few minutes before finally asking. Astar would give her the benefit of the doubt and ask her what she needed. Astar listened as Astra went on about what she remembered, occasionally filling in the blanks for her. The more the conversation went on, the more Astra remembered, and soon enough, they were laughing together at fond memories. The two wandered the streets in the evening, street lamps hung overhead illuminating the lively streets, greeting the people as they walked by, occasionally stopping to have a conversation and introducing Astra to them. Astar did so with pride. She takes her sister to a restaurant she visits often. The old man here was very fond of her; he viewed her as his own, like she was his granddaughter. His shop wasn't all too popular, but he did get a fair number of people. " Two bowls please, and a sake for me, and a cola for her," Astra looks at her sister, offended. Astra laughs as Astra playfully hits her arm, the two of them are the same age, but she can't help but think of her as her kid sister. The old man gives Astra a puzzled look before smiling and going to prep the noodles. She always came here alone, so it was odd when she suddenly came with someone new. A few minutes later, the old man places two bowls in front of them, shortly after he puts down a glass of cola next to Astra's bowl, and a small cup and bottle next to Astars. She waited for her sister to eat first, pouring herself a cup of sake, watching as Astra examined the food closely before splitting the chopsticks and grabbing the noodles with ease. Her memories may have been fuzzy, but her skills clearly remained. Her face lit up as he ate the noodles, continuing to eat the rest,
" You know, she's my sister," Astar said, watching as her sister enjoyed a proper meal. The old man didn't look too surprised. " Hmph, I can tell by the way she's devouring those noodles. If I recall, you had a similar reaction when you first had them as well," The old man says, chuckling. Astra almost choked laughing, thinking about it, the three of them conversed well into the night, the old man telling Astra stories about her sister, despite her protests. It had been well into midnight, and Astra had finished three bowls before they decided to head home. Astra paid the old man, and they both thanked him before leaving. Astar showed her sister where the bathroom was so she could clean herself up while she prepared her bedding. "Goodnight"
"night," Astar went to her room and lay down in her bed. Not even moments after she closed her eyes, she could hear the door open, and feet shuffle. Upon opening them, she was greeted by Astra standing next to her bed, her blanket draped over her like a king's cloak. Astar smiled up at her. She let out a gentle sigh before rolling over, patting the bed next to her. A smile beamed on her sister's face as she crawled over her onto the bed, getting comfortable next to her sister. Since it was just the two of them growing up, they often slept together. And so the two rested.
