Chapter 8:

I couldn't catch your number

Reverie of the Electric City

DAY 2 Evening

What a pain...

Jun'ichi had entered the door to the backrooms marked with a "staff only" sign.

His face wore a scowl, his brows furrowed demonstrating to the other butlers in the staff room of his current displeasure.

Wordlessly he moved to collect a hot towel from his colleague who couldn't help but comment on Jun'ichi's disdain.

"It's the business woman again isn't it?" said his colleague.

"...Who else would it be Yuto?" Jun'ichi clarified as he inspected the towel for stains, with the warmth radiating through his fingers.

"Thanks again Jun'ichi-kun, I know the others don't say it but we really appreciate you for everything you're do for us, for me even!" Yuto had innocently said.

It didn't take long for Jun'ichi to realize that Yuto had been a gentle person and he was sure Yuto was sincere in his thanks.

However the same could not be said of the other butlers working there, the majority of them had treated him like an intruder muscling in on their territory and their regulars.

Yuto had already faced the same trouble with his baby faced appearance and waifish physique. Both from the his colleagues and more troublingly from the triad. The de facto VIPs of the café who gained a taste for his suffering.

Under such harsh circumstances it had been easy for the two to find each other a reliable comrade.

Jun'ichi had finished examining the towel, it had been perfectly clean. He turned his back to Yuto intending to return to the scene of his crime.

Only for the door be blocked by the presence of another colleague, where Yuto was gentle. This colleague had been firm.

"Move Kensei, I have to get back." Jun'ichi rebelliously stated.

"Sebastian may not be here, but that doesn't mean you aren't being watched." Kensei proclaimed sternly.

"..."

"Jun'ichi-san, Your decision was admirable but you must remember that they are VIPs. Don't do anything to agitate them, got it?"

"Tch... whatever" Jun'ichi matched Kensei's steadfast energy with his own indifference.

After giving his opinion on Kensei's "advice" he took his tool and left to deal with trio haunting the establishment. Unlike the entities he usually faced, his talent wouldn't help here.

"Oi! Jun'ichi!" Kensei blurted out in part exasperation and surprise at Jun'ichi's bluntness as he left through the staff door.

"Leave him be Kensei, that's just how he is. If he wasn't like that he wouldn't have took my place as their plaything." Yuto said apologetically in Jun'ichi's defence.

"But Yuto! even if they are like that they're the café's most highest paying customers! If the customer is king than they're divine! The trio goddess's of this establishment!"

"What kind of goddess's would torment me like they have kensei? Do want to see the burn marks they left on me when I made a mistake in delivering their order?" It was with these words Yuto demonstrated something other than acceptance of his fate, It was bitterness.

"Yuto... I didn't know it had gotten that far."

"it's fine Kensei, Let's just head back."

Don't agitate them? Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Jun'ichi made his way toward the first of the trio tonight and the very reason he required the towel.

On his way he spied some familiar faces, Kensei who oversaw the cafe floor, Yuto who had been serving a recognizable young lady, Anna-chan.

Jun'ichi made an attempt to avoid feeling the pressure that began weighing upon him as the three watched him walking into what was a proverbial lions den all alone.

It wasn't long before he reached his first 'battle'

There she was, the first goddess of the cafe, Akane, the CEO of the most prominent health and beauty company in Tokyo. She often took pride in mentioning also being the face of her brand too, at least that was Jun'ichi's impression by how often she mentioned it.

She had been a relatively tall lady with red hair half tied up. She had a good amount of musculature to her which gave her a somewhat Amazonian look. One of the most apparent characteristics that had always caused sly glances was her prominent bust size. She had further emphasized them by fashioning herself in a large cleavage aside from the usual executive businesswomen attire with an office mini skirt.

Suffice to say she didn't leave much to the imagination and that had been just the way she liked it.

"What took you so long boy! I'm still covered in your mistake, scalding hot coffee all over my thighs! I could have been seriously hurt! the least you could do is clean up the mess would you not agree? or should the manager learn of this?"

Jun'ichi didn't respond but readied the warm towel. He had been unusually quiet and more restrained than usual.

my mistake? you're the one who struck my hand causing the tea to spill!

It hadn't been always like this as Jun'ichi recalls. He had heard from Yuto she initially had been a very kind and demure person when her business had been much smaller. Since the explosion of popularity of her product she and her business had seen wild success almost over a fortnight.

Ever since then she had become bolder and bolder, so too were her 'vices'. Yuto said he could've sworn something awoke in her when he accidently spilled tea on her, she took unusually twisted pleasure in making him squirm.

Don't agitate them? are you for real kensei?

Jun'ichi took a quick glance back to kensei's serious onlooking face. Then began to rub Akane's large thigh with the towel quickly figured the faster he did it, the quicker it would be over.

"Slower  'Jun'ichi', after all where is the rush? let's enjoy ourselves <3" Akane tried saying seductively but came across as someone's idea of being seductive if they lacked the experience.

Jun'ichi could sense her hand going to cop a feel of Jun'ichi's rear end. He moved to counter it by snaking a hand free from gripping the towel and held her reaching hand by the wrist.

"I refuse, you're a grown women, you can clean yourself up" Jun'ichi had reproached her subsequently dropping the towel onto her lap.

"YEAH! NO TOUCHING THE GOODS!" erupted from behind him. He already knew who it was.

"Abe-chan! please settle down people are looking!" Yuto tried to calm her down quietly.

Don't bother Yuto, Anna-chan is way too stubborn.

also Anna-chan weren't you supposed to be looking out for suspicious people?

It had already been too late, with all the noise Jun'ichi's 'battle' now had the whole café as an audience.

"You refuse?!?!? Such insolence! Do you have any idea who you are refusing? If I wished it I could put this cafe out of business and blacklist all the employees from further employment! Well do you have a better idea now of the kind of pull I have? Do you still think you can handle that?"

I don't get it, is she threatening me? Does she want to fight?

Don't agitate huh?

What a pain, I better set her straight. What would Anna-chan say?

"I can more than handle a woman like you you, Anytime and anyplace, I won't lose to anyone"

"eh...?"

It had seemed to work but perhaps not in the way Jun'ichi had envisioned in his head.

"HAAAAAAAHH!?!?"

This too again had been yelled by Anna. At this point whatever her plan was earlier, it was now to watch Jun'ichi like a hound.

she's way too loud...

"...Well then. I... Suppose I can concede defeat like this" The reply this time came from Akane who's demeaner receded into becoming demure.

This had perplexed Jun'ichi, her face had been beetroot red. In his mind he could only conceive of one reason that this had been the case.

concede? is she not going to fight? she must be incredibly furious if it shows on her face.

The Amazon of the triad had been defeated, inadvertently by Jun'ichi

"It looks likes you lost Amazon-chan" a new voice meekly was added to the chorus.

Wha-!?!

When did she appear? I couldn't sense her at all

"Yeah, I begrudgingly leave it in your hands Gloomy" Akane was quick to reply which indicated some familiarity between them.

"As if you had a choice, you oppai(breast) monster." with those choice of words the person known has gloomy had indicated that this 'familiarity' didn't include affection.

"Ganbare~ I guess even a cutting board deserves a chance!"

Akane responded in an almost cheery tone which thinly disguised her enmity , Gloomy had ignored it and gently grabbed at Jun'ichi's arm and pulled him to her booth while he had remained briefly dazed by the interchange.

Women...are scary!

It had seemed just after surviving a grueling encounter, Jun'ichi had been thrust into another.

Despite this Jun'ichi had still not been seemingly phased by this save for one prevailing thought on his mind.

I want to go home

I want to go home

I'm missing the shining sword maidens broadcast!!!

I want to go home!

Yet despite his wishes, here he was.

Stationed in another booth sitting next the person named Gloomy. Jun'ichi tried to recall what he remembers of briefly serving this petite young lady.

Nothing came to mind, her presence was so quietened that it was almost as if she moved around unheard just as a ghost would. Paired with her almost black green hair, the bags under her eyes and her bookish looks, it hadn't been difficult to understand how she gained her nickname.

Jun'ichi and Gloomy sat next to one another wordlessly. Jun'ichi had been looking at the ceiling with want of better things to do. Gloomy was quietly reading her fleshy tome, which she would never be seen without.

There had been numerous complaints about the eerie look of it and it's unique "smell" however every time Gloomy was under threat of being separated from her favorite "book" she would become hysterical and unhinged so the faculty deemed it better to let her keep it.

At least that's what Kensei warned Jun'ichi about after Jun'ichi decided to spare Yuto his troubles.

I really enjoy the silence but, I can already imagine Kensei's scolding. I better say something.

"um... would you-"

"Don't talk! you'll ruin this for me!"

I tried kensei! You can't say that I didn't!

Confused at what she meant, Jun'ichi had paid closer attention to Gloomy and noticed her face had been reddened and she had been huffing and heaving vigorously.

"I'm...done. Jun'ichi-sama would you do me the honor of-"

Wait, why do I get the feeling her request is going to be something crazy. The iris of her eyes are looking like uzumaki!, she's definitely losing it!

Gloomy began enthusiastically pressing herself against Jun'ichi while holding her eerie book with both hands In front of her chest. Her eyes looking to bore a whole in his head with insistence.

"Reading my 'BL' fanfiction? It's about-"

What's BL? I guess she just wants me to read whatever it is in her creepy book right?

"Sure, whatever"

This was a mistake, Jun'ichi had come to realize this far too late.

The book had contained a story where Kensei had been courting Yuto and had soon been 'intimate' however in the most recent chapters, he himself had appeared aggressively pursuing Yuto creating a sort of love triangle, which culminated in an 'intimate' encounter with all three.

I feel like I've seen something I really shouldn't have

I think I'll need to bleach my eyes after this

"WELL!?!? well? how is it?" Gloomy hadn't lost any of her insistence. Though now her nose was bleeding profusely.

"Yeah... It's good"

Will that satisfy her? I want to go home already.

"I knew it! you understand don't you? if you like we could reenact-"

She wants more!?!?

"Get away from him you creepy otaku girl!" again another outburst from Anna, though this time Anna had been standing close to the booth fuming.

Anna's abrupt outburst had seemed to knock gloomy out her passionate trance.

Gloomy began to compose herself while staring daggers at Anna, while snarling quietly like a small dog would baring it's fangs at an enemy.

"Tch" was the only sounds she could make audible in the presence of an audience.

Nice backup Anna-chan!

Jun'ichi realized he underappreciated how helpful a stubborn person like Anna-chan could be.

With that the specter of the triad had been bested, by none other than Anna.

"I couldn't have said it better myself, accept your defeat you uncouth fujoshi!" a new final person had added their voice to the others. This person was as petite as gloomy but had been shorter and fashioned gothic lolita outfit. She had an haughty air to her exuding from her arrogant look she wore on her face.

Another weird person suddenly appeared...

Wait why is she here!?!?!

She needed no introduction after all not much had been known about her save for one fact.

Her name was Eliza, She was Sebastian's darling little sister. She after all shared the same golden locks of hair and the bright blue eyes.

She had also been the final boss of the triad, the princess.

"Well, Jun'ichi-kun?" She looked at him expectedly

The most troublesome one has appeared

What a pain

"What would you like, hime-sama?"

He hated that he had to memorize that.

"I'm tired, fetch me a chair."

"He doesn't have to listen to you! Just because you're Sebastián's sister!" The Jun'ichi defense was out in full force today.

Eliza simply scoffed as she heard something that she considered unbelievable.

"Nevermind that now, I think I have found something better"

Sizing Jun'ichi up, an evil thought emerged beneath Eliza's blue eyes.

She then pushed Jun'ichi forcefully onto the sofa of the booth

"Wha-"

Before Jun'ichi could finish that remark, Eliza sat on his lap with her legs outstretched across from his, with her arms wrapped around Jun'ichi's neck much like one would with a lover. She nestled her head into his hair forcefully while looking at Anna the whole time.

"Well? What do you think of my new chair?"

"You're...You're Despicable! You! you..." Anna could not help but to let her fury fly free however it ended prematurely and she made an effort to hide her face as a shadow hid her features as she looked down.

This brat! What should I do in this situation?

Instinctively in times such as these one would often turn to others for the appropriate response.

With this in mind Jun'ichi turned to Anna out of habit. It was then that he had realized the reason for the quelling of her fury.

Are those...

Tears?

Is this how she felt the whole time?

"Tch" the frustration that Jun'ichi had felt coming from the click of his tongue wasn't at anyone except himself.

What the hell am I even doing?

A feeling welled up inside him, the restraint he had taken so much care to maintain buckled, the feeling continued to put immense pressure until the restraint finally broke. only for the feeling to erupt like a volcano inside him. His eyes burned with the fury of magma though to everyone else it had only been made apparent by his eyes glowing an unnatural hue of red.

"You crossed the line, you shitty brat." Jun'ichi's voice was ice cold. It was only his words that indicated his anger in his speech.

Jun'ichi stood up, Immediately causing Eliza to drop harshly on the ground.

"You brute! How dare you! I'm-"

She didn't continue, his glowing eyes from above her turned to meet hers and she understood instantly. If she wasn't careful he wouldn't hesitate to act.

"I'm leaving, don't try to stop me." He directed this to Eliza.

Jun'ichi moved wordlessly to leave before stopping briefly before Anna.

His face visibly softened, and the glow of his eyes dimmed slightly. He almost stretched out a hand to comfort her but stopped himself short.

I don't have any right to comfort her

He continued onward to his destination.

"Wait! Jun-kun!" after saying this Anna moved to follow after him just after she wiped her tears and tried to compose herself as best as she could yet not well enough as her voice now betrayed the feelings her tears had made apparent.

Kensei once again had already been waiting by the door wearing a deep frown on his face. Yuto ran past Jun'ichi in a vain attempt to placate Eliza.

"You couldn't help it could you? Jun'ichi!" Kensei who was usually calm and collected looked noticeably irate.

"Move Kensei, I'm leaving already. I don't need to hear what you're going to say"

Jun'ichi reached for the handle yet Kensei was unmoving and an exit still couldn't be made.

"Wait! Kensei, It's my fault! I shouldn't have caused trouble!" Anna's voice was a tad more composed yet the shakiness of her voice indicated she still had been upset.

Unlike Jun'ichi Kensei had been astute at reading people, as someone experienced in the service industry, this had been a key skill.

With the residual evidence of tears, the shakiness of her voice and her sudden diminutive demeaner paired with his knowledge on how trying dealing with the triad can be.

It hadn't been long to put the puzzle pieces together, he understood the situation completely.

"No, I don't think you did anything wrong young lady. Nor do I think Jun'ichi-san did either, however we have a reputation to uphold. We can still fix things Jun'ichi-san, stay, you are working for the managers benefit after all."

"Not interested."

"Jun-kun! what about the mission? The mission is more important than one misunderstanding! You can't just quit!"

"Anna-chan, No job is worth me hurting my precious friends. not now, not ever."

"but-"

"Besides, I've missed at least 2 episodes of Shining sword maidens. At this rate I'll fall behind! A man's passions shouldn't be stifled!" Jun'ichi seemed unusually animated when mentioning the 'passions' part.

Jun-kun, you're lying aren't you?

Just to spare my feelings right?

Jun-kun really! who knew my new friend would be such a softie!

"Aaah! I really can't talk sense into someone so stubborn! Kensei-san there's no point, he's already made his mind!"

"Yeah! I've made my mind!"

Anna seemed to be in a better mood, conversely Jun'ichi's demeaner became softer and his eyes dimmed in response.

"What about me Jun-kun? Don't you remember your promise?"

"I don't think I promised you anything."

"HAAAH?"

"It was a joke."

"You able to joke now!?!?"

"Anna-chan, I won't be far and I swear to you, anytime and anywhere, wherever you are and wherever you go, if you need me, call on me. I'll find my way to you."

"eh!? ......うん(yeah)"

Where did that come from?

is it hot in here or something? I feel really hot for some reason.

It's not like me to be at a loss for words. say something Anna!

"Jun-kun! I!"

"He's already left young lady."

"Ah, ...I see."

A pang of sadness hit her suddenly.

This is the first time isn't it? the first time we haven't been together since all this craziness started.

wait a second!!! call?

It was short lived however as she came to a realization that made her threw her into a laughing fit as she reminded herself of the words he swore to her. Her laughter clearing away all her poor mood prior like the sun revealing itself after a cloudy day.

It's reassuring really, despite his scary strength and his coolness to life threatening situations. His eerie glowing eyes and fiery white hair.

"That baka Jun-kun! how am I supposed to call you?"

Despite all that, he really is just an honest baka!

"あなたの番号を聞き取れませんでした!(I couldn't catch your number!)"
