Chapter 2 - Kazopia at Dawn

Shadow Raid Base — Night

Frost leaned back in his chair with a confident grin.
“Ooh, a woman?” he said. “If I meet her, she’ll be my fan for sure.”

“Quit it,” Aqua said flatly.

Blaze wiped his eyes dramatically. “Thank you, Aqua. At least someone understands my pain.”

Aqua ignored him. “Just tell us the plan.”

Blaze straightened. “Right. Sorry. I got distracted by this guy.” He nodded toward Frost.
“Hela is a member of the Kai’s organization. She and her partner, Osb, are heading to Kazopia. The King of Spidoria has ordered us to capture them.”

Volt crossed his arms. “And the plan?”

“There is no plan,” Blaze said calmly. “I just used the word plan to create suspense.”

Frost shrugged. “I can work without a plan.”

Volt glared. “I can’t.”

Blaze snapped back, “I don’t make plans.”

“Stop fighting,” Aqua said. “I’ll make one while you argue.”

Frost blinked. “High IQ.”

“I also have backup plans,” Aqua added.

Volt leaned forward. “So what’s the plan?”

Aqua paused. “I was joking. Blaze is the leader. I only said that to stop you two.”

Blaze and Frost burst out laughing.
Volt sighed… then laughed too. “Fine. This time, I’ll work without a plan.”

The mission was set.

April 5, 2051 — Night

Departure for Kazopia

April 7, 2051 — Sunrise

Kazopia

Frost took a deep breath. “Wow. The air here feels fresh.”

Volt smirked. “Want to play rock, paper, scissors? Loser gets punched.”

Frost grinned. “I’m confident.”

They played.

Frost lost.

“You won’t punch me,” Frost said quickly. “We’re friends.”

Volt raised his fist. “In games, there’s no friendship.”

Lightning cracked.

Frost flew backward and hit the ground, unconscious.

Blaze blinked. “When will he wake up?”

“Ten minutes,” Aqua replied calmly.

Ten minutes later, Frost groaned and opened his eyes.

“Let’s move,” Aqua said.

Blaze smiled. “How was your sleep?”

Volt laughed. Frost sat up slowly. “Next time, I’ll win.”

They headed into the city.

Kazopia City

“We’ll split up,” Aqua said. “Volt and I will look for new members. Blaze, Frost—you gather information on Hela and Osb.”

Blaze and Frost walked through the streets, shops glowing around them.

“These shops are amazing,” Frost said, eyes wide.

Blaze nodded. “Have you ever wondered why we were chosen for this mission?”

“Yeah,” Frost said. “I think about it too.”

Blaze smiled. “We really think alike.”

“Because we’re best friends.”

They both smiled quietly.

“Funny,” Frost added. “We don’t know our real names. Or our parents.”

Blaze looked ahead. “Shadow Raid isn’t a team. It’s a family.”

Frost’s stomach growled. “I’m starving.”

Blaze chuckled. “I’ve got money.”

Frost grinned. “Then let’s eat.”

They disappeared into the crowd—unaware of how close the shadows already were.
