Chapter 2:

Meeting the president

It's yuri after all!

A lone figure stands before the student council room, who appears to be very anxious about something.

“Why did the student council president ask me to see her during lunch break? I mean it’s probably about some class representative related stuff. But why would she only ask for me? C-could it be about what I saw yesterday?” - Yuri immediately gets flustered just by thinking back on it, however she tries to shake it off.

“No...there's no way, nobody noticed me. I’m just overthinking this.” - she takes a deep breath and opens the door.

The atmosphere in the room is completely different than how it was during the meeting yesterday. It’s so silent that you would think that the student council is not working right now. And you would be right, partially. All the extra desks have been moved out of the room, leaving only a single, but much wider desk at the other side of the room, where the student council president is working right now, and a single empty chair in front of it. The president looks completely immersed in writing something into a notebook with a red cover and Yuri realises that she might have not even noticed that she was there.

A few moments later, when Yuri works up the courage to say something, she finally looks up from her desk:

“Ah. Miyuzumi Yuri. Hello, I’m Watanabe Yaoi, but you probably already knew that.” - She stops for a moment to quickly scan her.

Yuri feels very uncomfortable by this. It’s like her very being is being judged by the president. Then a few moments later Yaoi feels satisfied and continues:

“Please take a seat.” - She motions towards the empty chair. Yuri carefully sits down.

“Do you know why I called you here?” - Yuri freezes as she hears this question.

Wha.. no no no. There’s no way it’s about that. This must be a trick question. It must be. - Yuri thinks as she quickly tries to come up with the best response.

She tries to get a bit more context by examining Yaoi’s face, but it’s pretty much impossible to read anything from it.

“Is it about something related to the sports day?” - Yuri asks as she tries to play it safe.

Yaoi doesn’t look satisfied by this answer. At least that’s what Yuri thinks, as her facial expression didn’t change much.

“Hmm. Not really.” - Yaoi answers a few moments later, then continues talking: - “You know, I had a date yesterday after the meeting.”

She stops for a moment and looks Yuri over again. She is trying not to show any signs of it, but Yuri has a bad feeling about this.

“But unfortunately the other party didn’t show up.”

Yaoi looks a bit sad while saying this, but considering how hard it was to read her a few seconds ago, Yuri thinks she’s probably just putting on an act.

“Do you happen to know where that person could have been?” - Yaoi convincingly pulls off a worried, innocent maiden look as she asks this.

Yuri deep down knows that it’s over, but tries to feign ignorance:

“W-who were you supposed to meet up with senpai?”

Yuri could swear that she saw a little smile on Yaoi’s face, when she asked the question.

“Well, with Kei, of course.”

Yep. It’s over. - Yuri thinks.

“Ehm, I-I don’t know….I didn’t see anythi-”

Yuri is suddenly met with the cold, piercing gaze of the student council president. It’s much more intimidating than before and she is unable to finish up her lie. Yaoi has an unexplainable, terrifying presence, which makes you feel like you need to do what she told you and in the moment you don’t question just how much authority she actually has.

“Okay, yes. I saw him.” - Yuri finally admits.

Suddenly all the tension disappears, making you question whether it was there in the first place. But Yuri puts that aside for now, since she already confessed, so there’s no reason to think about it.

Then she begins to tell Yaoi what happened yesterday:

“So at lunch break I was here for the meeting. Then I made my way to the gym, because I had plans to meet up with one of my friends, Rin. I was supposed to go to the back of the building and meet him there. As I was nearing it I heard some voices and then some sort of loud noise, so I hurried over there to check what happened, and that’s when I saw… them.”

Yuri’s face gets red as soon as she gets to this point, and she stops talking for a bit to try and put what she saw into words. Yaoi is patiently waiting, although even her usually unreadable face shows signs of curiosity. Then Yuri continues:

“...I don’t exactly know what happened, because I only saw them for a moment... But I saw Rin and Kei-senpai… well… kind of.. on top of each other..”

Yuri finally manages to say it and then buries her face in her hands out of embarrassment.

“Ooh. I see. So that’s what happened.” - Yaoi says. She looks kind of worked up by this, like she is thinking hard about something. Yuri only now begins to question why Yaoi might have wanted to know where Kei was.

Wait, is she… If the rumors are anything to go by, she might actually be interested in Kei-senpai.

Yuri thinks and accidentally voices her thought:

“You and Kei-senapi, are you by any chance...”

At this point Yuri realises that she is digging into other people’s business again and stops herself from talking, but it’s too late.

Yaoi’s face lights up, which isn’t the expression Yuri expected out of her, which confuses Yuri, but then Yaoi says:

“Yes... Yes! That’s it!” - Yaoi exclaims, as she stands up.

“I have been friends with Kei ever since we were kids. Except I wanted it to be more. However, I was scared of what might happen if I actually confessed, so I kept all my feelings to myself for years, hoping things could stay the same way they have always been.”

Now Yaoi’s excited look turns sad and says:

“Then… Then suddenly a new transfer student showed up and took Kei away from me.”

“Wait.. a transfer stude-” - Yaoi cuts off Yuri’s interruption and continues on with her story:

“Now I can feel my heart breaking every time I see them together… If only I had taken my chance… I could have been the one who… But no! I can't think about that. Kei has found happiness. It’s unfortunate that it doesn’t involve me, but I have to put my feelings aside. All that matters is that Kei is happy. That alone is enough for me...”

As Yaoi finishes her dramatic monologue, she looks away and closes her eyes, like she is contemplating something and a single tear rolls down her face.

Then a few moments later she suddenly looks at Yuri and excitedly asks:

“So, what do you think?”

Yuri is just speechless. She tries to understand what just happened, but she doesn’t find much success.

After her performance goes unappreciated for a few more seconds, Yaoi suddenly realises why Yuri is confused and says:

“Oh, no, actually, I don’t like Kei in that way. I mean we’re childhood friends, if I did, I would have already taken my chance.”

“...Then what was all that about? ” - Yuri asks, still confused.

“It was quite dramatic right? It really moves your heart.”

“That doesn’t answer the ques-” - Yaoi cuts off Yuri again and says:

“Actually, I’m really excited. I haven’t seen Kei take an interest in someone else, like, ever. To think things could have escalated so fast without my knowledge… Now I just need to find out more about them. Hmm, what would be the best way to-”

Yuri stops Yaoi’s thought process as she voices her thoughts:

“W-What do you mean…? You know that my friend Rin is a guy, right?”

No, she isn’t actually, but neither of them knows that. Not yet anyway.

Now Yaoi realises that Yuri doesn’t know that Kei is also a girl, so of course she would find it weird for two guys to do whatever they did.

Yaoi thinks for a moment and then she has an idea.

She walks over to one of the storage cabinets at the side of the room, opens the lowest drawer and after a bit of searching picks up a book, which has it’s covers wrapped, so you don’t know what it’s about just by looking at it. Yaoi closes the drawer, stands up and gives the book to Yuri while saying:

“You know relationships like that aren’t that uncommon.” - Yuri tilts her head a bit and instinctually opens the book.

She freezes for a few seconds as her mind tries to process just what she is seeing.

“Eeeh?! Wha-wha-wha-what?”

As Yuri is trying to assemble an understandable sentence, her face goes red and you could almost see smoke coming out of her head as her brain activity increases exponentially.

“What is this? W-why are you showing me this?” - She finally manages to respond, still looking at the page where she opened it.

“Come on, it’s not even that graphic.” - Yaoi says, as she walks over, next to Yuri, to see what she is looking at, and says:

“But to answer your question, it’s a nice story about two highschool boys, who happen to like each other, and it tells you how their relationship... develops.”

“B-but to do things like that at school... It’s so improper, shameful.” - Yuri sheepishly says, still looking at the book.

Yaoi smiles a bit as she managed to confirm her suspicion and says:

“Hey, don’t be like that. It gets even better on the next page.”

Then she slowly reaches over Yuri’s shoulder to flip the page. As Yuri watches Yaoi’s hand in excitement she thinks:

Even better?!...W-what could happen next?

She has a hard time controlling her curiosity and just as Yaoi’s hand would reach the page she finally manages to snap out of it, and she suddenly stands up and throws the book away in the same motion.

Also, when she was getting up she hit Yaoi’s head, as she was leaning over Yuri’s shoulder, but she didn’t even notice it.

She moves away from the book, which fell to the ground, turns away and hides her face behind her hands, trying to conceal her embarrassment.

“I-I’m not interested in it! Why would you bring that to school? You’re the student council president right? Why would you keep that here?” - Yuri says, but she doesn’t notice that the other party is currently curled up holding her injured jaw.

“Ow. That hurt.” - Yaoi mumbles as she manages to get through the initial wave of pain that hit her just now.

Then she remembers her situation and quickly takes in her surroundings and lets out a sigh of relief as she sees that Yuri didn’t notice her behavior.

She stands up, collects her thoughts and says:

“You know, I’m making a plan for tomorrow, to find out more about Kei and Rin’s... relationship.” - Yuri instinctually opens one of her eyes. - “So come back tomorrow, same time, ...if you’re interested.”

Yuri now opens both of her eyes and puts her hands down, as she managed to mostly collect herself. She is about to say something:

“I-”

But the bell interrupts her. Then before Yuri could speak again Yaoi says:

“Just, think about it.” - and she winks at Yuri as she sits down at her desk and opens the notebook in front of her again.
