Chapter 4:
Dark Fables of Void V2 — Quantum Mix
"Whoa..." Rachel murmurs, her face pale, "that's...not good."
"No kidding." Kinsey mutters, "but why would they be watching us?”
To learn that one of their surveillance devices has been planted in their favorite cafe is alarming, to say the least.
The group exchanged worried glances. "But why would the Platinum Army be interested in spying on us?" Rachel wonders aloud, a hint of fear in her voice.
Alice continues to peer at the camera in the espresso machine, her expression unreadable. "I have a guess," she replies, "but it's not a pleasant one.”
The group grows even more tense, their worries magnified.
"Tell us," Kinsey urges, her voice shaky.
Alice hesitates, knowing that what she's about to say won't be easy to hear. But knowing that it's better to know the truth, she takes a breath and speaks. "The Platinum Army is particularly interested in individuals who have unique or extraordinary abilities. The fact that they're spying on us through a hidden camera...I think they're aware of my Miracle Eyes, my ability to see the whole EM spectrum.”
The group goes silent, processing Alice's words. They knew of Alice's Miracle Eyes and had witnessed her ability to see in different spectrums firsthand, but they hadn't considered the possibility of people outside their circle knowing about it.
Kairy breaks the silence. "So you're saying... that the Platinum Army could be watching us because of your Miracle Eyes?"
Alice nods gravely. "It's a strong possibility. They've likely been monitoring us for a while to gather information and assess our abilities. That's why the camera has been there for a few days.”
Kinsey rubs her forehead, a frown on her face. "This is bad," she mumbles softly.
Rachel's eyes are wide with worry. "What if they try to take us captive?"
Alice doesn't sugarcoat her response. "It's a real possibility. They've been known to abduct individuals with unique abilities and force them into their ranks. They see it as an investment, like a resource to be exploited.”
The group exchange horrified glances as the gravity of the situation dawns on them. The Platinum Army is a formidable force, known for their ruthlessness and efficiency. The idea that they could have their sights set on any of them is chilling.
"What do we do?" Kairy whispers, her voice trembling.
Alice remains stoic, still observing the hidden camera. "We need to be cautious. They've already planted a camera to watch us. We can't trust anything here now.”
"So we should leave?" Rachel suggests, looking around nervously.
Alice shakes her head. "Not yet. We need to be smart about this. If we leave in a hurry, they might be alarmed and act prematurely. We need a plan."
"But what kind of plan?" Kairy asks, her voice shaking.
Alice pauses, her gaze still focused on the camera. "We need to act normal, for now. We can't let them know that we're onto them until we have a plan.”
The group nods, trying to compose themselves. They know that they need to act normal, but the knowledge that they're being watched by the powerful and ruthless Platinum Army puts them on edge.
"So we just pretend like nothing's wrong?" Kinsey asks.
Alice nods again. "For now, yes. We continue as usual, but we need to be extra cautious. No discussing any sensitive information, especially about our abilities.”
The group nods, understanding the importance of maintaining a low profile. They sip their drinks nervously, their gazes darting around the cafe, as if expecting the Platinum Army to leap at them at any moment.
Just then, the cafe door swings open, and two tall, pale women in sleek platinum suits walk in, their eyes scanning around like hawks. Alice's eyes narrow as she observes the newcomers, her suspicion heightened.
The group tenses, their eyes locked on the two women in platinum suits. They look the very picture of professionalism, and the way they scan the room with their sharp eyes makes them appear almost predatory.
"Platinum Army," Alice mutters under her breath, her hand clenching into a fist on the table.
The two women approach the café's counter, their footsteps echoing in the quiet atmosphere. One of them, a woman with sleek platinum hair, turns to the barista behind the counter with a cold expression and said in a thick accent:
"We need coffee."
The barista jumps at the woman's command, quickly moving to make the two women their coffee. The women stand at the counter, their eyes still scanning the room, their attention eventually falling on the group's table.
The group can feel the women's eyes on them, and they shift nervously in their seats. Alice's gaze remains fixed on the women at the counter, her mind racing.
"They're watching us," Kairy whispers, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kinsey can't tear her gaze away from the two women. "What do they want?" she asks.
Alice remains silent, her sharp blue eyes following the women's every movement.
The barista hurries to make the two women's coffee, clearly intimidated by their imposing presence. The women at the counter wait quietly, their gazes now fixed on the group's table, their expressions unreadable.
The barista sets two mugs of coffee on the counter and calls out, "Your coffee is ready."
One of the women at the counter nods, taking a mug in her hand and sipping it slowly. She swallows and lets out a deep sigh, a satisfied smile crossing her lips. "This will do," she says in that accent.
The group can't help but feel uneasy as they watch the women relish their coffee. They exchange nervous glances, their anxiety growing.
Kairy leans over to whisper to Alice, "They're still watching us... should we leave?"
Alice keeps her eyes on the two platinum-haired women. "Not yet. Let's wait and see what they do.”
The two women continue to sip their coffee, their gaze fixed on the group. They look like they're waiting for something, their patience seemingly endless.
Rachel fidgets in her seat, her nerves frayed. "This is torture," she whispers, "they're just staring at us..."
Alice remains calm, observing the women's every move. "Patience," she whispers to the group, "we need to wait for a chance.”
The wait feels endless. The two women show no signs of leaving any time soon, their hawk-like eyes still fixed on the group's table.
"This is unbearable," Kairy murmurs, her leg shaking, "I can't take this much longer..."
Alice remains focused, her eyes darting between the two women. "Stay calm," she says in a hushed tone. "They're not moving yet.”
The group struggles to maintain their composure. They continue to wait, their nerves on edge, as the two platinum-haired women remain stationary, sipping their coffee and eyeing them with a strange intensity.
"How long do we have to wait?" Rachel whispers, her voice quivering with anxiety.
Alice keeps her gaze on the women, her blue eyes sharp and alert. "Until they make a move," she replies steadily. "We need to stay calm and wait for an opportunity.”
The café's door suddenly swings open, one burly man and three more women dressed in platinum suits walk in, their appearance and demeanor almost identical to the first two women. The group's anxiety spikes, and they exchange worried glances.
"Great, just what we needed," Kairy mutters under her breath. "More of them..."
Alice's eyes narrow as she observes the newcomers. "It just got even more complicated," she mutters under her breath.
The group's nerves are on overload as the new platinum-haired women and the burly man walk into the café, their presence even more intimidating.
Kairy fidgets nervously, her eyes darting around the café. "There's no way we can take on this many Platinum Army agents..." she whispers.
Alice's eyes remain fixed on the newcomers, her expression serious. "We need to be careful," she says softly, "They're fully armed, and they're clearly not here just to sip coffee.”
The new platinum-haired women and the burly man move to the counter, ordering coffee from the same nervous barista. Their gazes wander around the café, seemingly analyzing every detail.
Rachel leans over to Alice, her voice trembling with fear. "They're looking at the entire café..."
Alice nods subtlety, her eyes still fixed on the first two platinum-haired women. "They're assessing the situation. They're here for a reason.”
The women and the man receive their coffee and move away from the counter, searching for a table. Their eyes roam over the entire café, their attention eventually settling on the group's table.
Kairy whispers urgently, "They're coming this way..."
Alice keeps her composure, her gaze fixed on the approaching platinum-haired women. "Remain calm," she whispers to the group, "Let's see what they want.”
The platinum-haired women and the burly man continue their steady approach, their steps measured and purposeful. They come to a halt near the group's table, their gazes locking onto the group.
Rachel grips the edge of the table, her knuckles turning white. "What do they want from us?" she whispers, fear lacing her words.
Alice doesn't flinch, her blue eyes holding steady. "Let me handle this. Stay quiet.”
