Chapter 16:
A Night is all I need (remake)
Nade was even more confused than Sarah.
'How can you be here? The crimson moon just appeared recently!' Kale licked his fingers clean of blood, then closed the box on the table with a wide grin before answering,
'I've been on Earth before the moon turned crims'
'That can't be!' Nade interrupted. (Sarah: What is going on right now?) Nade scanned Kale's body, searching for anything unusual. Kale's black suit looked perfectly ordinary—but then Nade saw it: a red-glowing bracelet around Kale's arm. When Kale noticed Nade's gaze, he chuckled and raised his arm.
'I think you know what this is, right? But more important... to think I'd find an immune one so early. What a lucky day!' Sarah was still confused—damn confused—but there was one thing she had understood.
'Nade, didn't you tell me immune ones can use the full power of a darkborn? So... you can take that bastard on, right?' While Nade hesitated to respond, Kale burst into laughter. To keep from falling, he leaned forward on the table's edge.
'So that's what you told her? Well, President Sarah, he's not entirely wrong. An immune one is someone who was possessed by a darkborn or brightborn and kind of functions as a vessel. Yes, he can use that being's power. But if he wants full access to it, there are two ways: One, he can force it—and pay with his life or suffer severe consequences.
Or two, he can form a contract or like let's say get the darkborn to agree. But... hahaha... I think I know which darkborn possessed him. And I know that darkborn won't help him unless he offers his body, his soul... hahaha!'
Suddenly, Kale vanished and reappeared above Sarah's head.
'That's why you will die here!' He swung his leg downward. Just in time, Nade shoved Sarah aside and raised his arms—baaaaammm—the ground cracked beneath him. He grabbed Kale's leg, spun, and slammed him into the floor.
'Sarah, get that box. I fear I know what's in there!' Sarah dashed toward the table. But as she did, she felt a piercing cold at her back. It came from Nade. The arm holding Kale's leg began to frost over with layers of ice that crept toward Kale's body. Just as Sarah reached the box, Kale went up in flames. Nade jumped back, ready to engage.
'Nade, it's locked! I need time!' Nade grinned. A drop of sweat rolled down his cheek, froze, and shattered mid-air.
'Then I'll give you that time, Sarah!' He launched himself at Kale, freezing his right arm. Kale ignited his left in flame and charged forward. Both hurled their arms at each other—ice met fire, forming a clashing wall of opposing forces. The ice began to overtake the flame. Sarah cracked the code. But just as her smile appeared, it vanished. Her eyes widened.
'FUCK!' Nade turned his head.
'What is it, Sarah?'
'It's a countdown—for the nuclear bombs of all countries... except mine. He plans to destroy the world!' But right now, there was a more immediate threat. The fire was nearly frozen—but suddenly, it extinguished. A wicked violet-black energy, like mist, emerged from Kale's body. He began to transform—growing larger and rougher. His skin rotted into a sick mix of green, brown, and black. His nails elongated, his teeth turned to black fangs, and his violet eyes glowed brighter than ever. With a single swing of his arm, he shattered the wall of ice. The wicked energy was so strong, Sarah nearly lost consciousness. Blood trickled from her nose, but she fought through it. Kale spread his arms wide and proclaimed,
'I am simply preparing this world... for his arrival! Hahahaha! And you' He pointed at Nade.
'I'm not even surprised I had to resort to my transformation. Even in your human form you are strong. No wonder when you're possessed by a Celestial!' Nade grinned and advanced.
'Then you know what a Celestial is capable of, right? You don't even have wings... so you must be a foot soldier.' (Sarah: Damn! What? That's a foot soldier? How high-ranked is a Celestial then?) Kale stomped the ground, creating more cracks. His distorted voice thundered:
'You will die today!' He cloaked his enormous body in flames and lunged at Nade.
Somewhere else
Meanwhile, Dae, Rayshel, and the soldiers had arrived at their destination.
When Dae heard inhuman cries and grunts, he broke into a sprint. His soldiers had already engaged a group of ghouls. The group wasn't large, but the soldiers were too exhausted to fight. Many had fallen, others were bitten or torn apart.
Without hesitation, Dae threw himself into the fray. The moment the soldiers saw him, they cheered. (Dae: Ten seconds should be enough.)
He began firing his magazine—but not at random. He was following a pattern. His bullets ricocheted off one another, altering their trajectories and accelerating. In seconds, they became too fast to track, each one aimed directly at a ghoul's skull. Their sheer speed blasted through heads. All ghouls fell to the ground, lifeless—just as Rayshel caught up, grinning. (Rayshel: So that's the Warlord in action. He's got me excited.) The ghouls were dead. But Dae's face showed no relief.
A few minutes earlier
When they had arrived, a soldier suddenly collapsed. Dae and Rayshel rushed over.
'What happened?' Dae asked. The soldier looked up—his eyes were bleeding. Another soldier pointed.
'His eyes... they're bleeding, like those monsters. Damn, he must've been bitten! It's like a zombie movie!' Dae inspected the wound. Sure enough—a bite mark on the shoulder.
Present moment
Dae's face turned grim. Reloading his gun, he asked coldly:
'Who got bitten?'
