Prologue

“It’s been nearly a year since magic arose and we’re still nowhere close to figuring out how!” yelled Chief Dobson, of the Magic Investigative Society.

“Sir, there has been a lot going on to impede our progress,” said Head Researcher Terex.

The chief looked at Head Researcher Terex, and cocked an eyebrow, “Such as?” he inquired.

“W-Well a new country, known as Varelion, rose from the sea, and refused to join any continent, meaning it’s the second continent that’s also a country, and people started awakening magic, helping build infrastructure,” then quietly he added, “and destroy it.”

The chief turned to Terex, “You think I care about that!” he boomed, shaking paper off desks.

Terex quivered back in fear “S-sir it is quite confusing about how magic came back, on June twenty-fifth it all seemed to come surging in, and by June thirtieth there were evil faces on our phones,” said Terex, shaking in every which way.

Chief Dobson seemed to calm down as he sat down in his chair, “Tell me more about this ‘Varelion’.”

Excited not to be yelled at, Terex calmed down, “Well it was founded only a few months ago and has already seen an influx of tourism. It is governed by a ‘Crown’, meaning it’s a monarchy,” stammered Terex.

“Why is this place important to our research?” asked Chief Dobson.

“It has the title of ‘The Heart of Magic’, and it appeared with magic, plus some of its inhabitants aren’t human,” replied Terex.

“How are some of its inhabitants not human!” yelled Dobson, angered, “are you telling me racoons run their stores?!”

Terex sat farther down in his seat and continued, “N-no sir, they have inhabitants such as Orcs, and Hebbeck.”

At last Dobson seemed satisfied, “Well then. This ‘Varelion’ place seems interesting, we should visit there some time, eh Terex?” said Dobson, finishing his statement.

Terex was terrified of travelling with Dobson, but there was nothing he could do, “Of course sir,” he said. “I’ll book our flight right away.”
