Chapter 27:
Onmyoji & Yokai
In a nearly empty hotel, the sound of a door being knocked on was quite rare. However, when Yukimura heard that sound, she got out of bed. She thought it was Shin knocking on her door; however, when Yukimura opened it, she saw nobody at the door. Instead, she saw Shin knocking on Takeda’s door.
What is he doing there?
Yukimura was about to speak up and ask, but Takeda already answered the door.
“Oh, Shin, are you ready to continue training?”
However, Shin didn’t reply immediately. There was a long pause as Yukimura watched Shin stand in the hallway, darting his eyes around the room, before Shin said, “Yes.”
“Alright then, just let me grab my coat.” Takeda turned around to reach for his closet, and it was in that moment that Shin lunged at Takeda.
The sound of items falling and breaking echoed through the halls. If it were a normal hotel, people might have stepped outside, concerned for the situation. But, there wasn’t anyone around besides Yukimura, so she was the one to see what transpired. However, the scene she walked into was one she didn’t expect.
Yukimura saw clothes around Takeda’s normally organized room, and stepping on those clothes was Shin. He stopped on them as he punched and kicked at Takeda; none of the attacks were hitting, but the situation was still concerning. She was going to open her mouth, but Takeda noticed this and, with a smile, put his finger to his lip as if telling her to be quiet and watch. So she watched.
Yukimura saw Takeda dodge Shin’s attacks. They’ve gotten faster. But that’s not all— Yukimura saw Shin punch a hole into the wall that Takeda narrowly dodged from—he got stronger, too.
Eventually, despite his expert dodging, Takeda was backed up to the window. “I got you now!” Those were the words Shin said as he swung at Takeda, but he could not have foreseen Takeda backing up further, falling out of the window.
Shin and Yukimura were both stunned for a second, processing for another second, and on the third second, Shin gulped. Shin placed his leg on the windowsill before jumping after Takeda. Yukimura couldn’t believe her eyes.
Why are they fighting? Did he lose control? However, Yukimura couldn’t think much about these questions; she could only rush to the window to see what was transpiring.
When she looked out, she saw Takeda falling onto the snow before jumping back. He did so in the nick of time before Shin slammed into the snow with his fist. As the snow flew up, Yukimura couldn’t see the fight for the next few seconds.
She couldn’t see Takeda still evading punches from Shin. Yukimura couldn’t see Shin kicking up snow into Takeda’s face, causing him to flinch. She couldn’t see Shin use this opportunity to grab Takeda by his shoulders and use his strength to pin Takeda into the snow. The next sight she could see was Shin straddling Takeda and punching him in the face.
However, Takeda still only had a smile on his face until Shin punched him again. Then, again, again, and again. “Enough, Shin. I know you’re tired from earlier, but don’t lose control. You got the one hit already.” But there was a different gleam in Shin’s eyes as he said, “I’m hungry!”
Shin opened his mouth about to bite into Takeda’s face. Takeda struggled to grab something from his pocket. The only one who could do something at this moment was Yukimura.
She pointed her finger at Shin and said, “Lance.” An ice shard launched itself into Shin’s back. The pain etched itself into Shin’s body, but it also caused him to pause. He looked down at his hands before saying, “Takeda, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to—”
However, Takeda didn’t let Shin finish. He only patted Shin on his head. “You did well getting that one hit; however, you used the Kishin’s power to do so. I’m not saying don’t use it, but do it when you have more of a lid on it.”
“Okay, I’ll try not to be overly reliant on it.”
“Good, we’ll talk about the next steps of training at dinner.” After saying this, Takeda turned to a window. It wasn’t the one Yukimura was staring out of; it was another one, the window Satori was watching them through.
Satori probably pushed him to use the Kishin. It’s hard to believe he tried to use the Kishin by himself.
“Takeda, are you coming inside?” Shin asked this while holding the door open after noticing Takeda still lying in the snow.
“No, I’ll stay out here a bit longer.”
