Chapter 15:

how low can one go?

The Zombie Apocalypse Started the Day I Got My First Girlfriend

On his way to the chemistry lab, Minato moved quickly through the university hallways, constantly singing Aoi’s name like a lullaby amid the chaos.
“Aoi-san... Aoi-san... Aoi-san”

He briefly rubbed his hands together, then dragged them up over his head, pressing his fingers into his hair and pulling at his scalp aggressively.

“Yuto Sato,” he murmured aggressively, opening his mouth as if he could taste the name.

"Annoying prick... glad she’s almost gotten over him.” He then turned his head and spat to the side of the hallway with anger, wiping his mouth aggressively with the back of his hand.

“The fucker came from nowhere,” he continued, his voice becoming louder with each passing second. “And tried to take her away from me. From me.”

Without looking downwards, he swung his legs forward and kicked a dead student’s eyeball across the hallway, bloody floor...

“Who do you think has known her since elementary school, huh?”
“Who?”

He then punched the hallway wall with his left hand.

“I wish I could’ve smashed his head a lot more than once.”

After a moment, Minato straightened his body posture when he reached the door of the chemistry lab.

He peered through the mini glass windows in the door to check for any zombies inside, scanning the tables, the shelves, and the large sound system in the corner, but to his surprise, there were none.

"Lucky me... lucky me."

He opened the door and went in...closing it carefully behind him.

“Now, where is that little bitch’s phone…” he muttered angrily, biting his lip as he nonchalantly walked in between the lab benches... He checked the nearest table quickly, then another one, pushing aside a different notebook with his fingertips.

Seconds later, his jaw began tightening with frustration as his desperation built up, his body gestures and pace quickening while his eyes constantly moved from one table to another.

“Where the hell did she leave it?”

“Hmm… ahh, there it is—the little bitch’s phone.” Minato crouched slightly and picked it up, turning it over in his hands and inspecting it carefully. “To think it was under the teacher’s table.”

He nonchalantly set the phone down on the table, then grabbed the paper the girl had given him earlier from his pocket and started typing the password. His fingers were a little bit covered with dried blood, so he licked them twice and continued typing.

Then the screen lit up, revealing her photo albums, and he smirked, leaning back slightly against a nearby chair in the lab.

“Ohh… so she left her gallery open… Haha, nice. I kinda thought she was cute for a freshman—not as cute as Aoi though, but alright.”

He licked the top of his lips slowly, smiling mischievously.
“Let’s see what she’s hiding. A few nudes wouldn’t hurt.”

Minato swiped through her photo album, but the first image he saw froze him mid-gesture...

“Hmm… damn. So the little bitch and the chemistry teacher were dating,”
He let out a very short laugh. “Sly old man… having a wife and still cheating on her with a freshman.”

“Ha… the old man must have wanted a taste of youth.”

While swiping, Minato noticed a thirty-second video icon, his thumb hovering for a second before pressing it. He then leaned over the phone, watching intently as the screen played a video of the freshman, Saki, and the chemistry teacher at an amusement park.

“Sensei, I love you.”

“Sensei, please buy me the teddy bear.”

“I love you. We’ll always be together.”

He chuckled softly and tilted his head...

“The irony…” he scoffed twice. “Sucks for her. He’s a zombie now.”
He laughed openly this time, his shoulders shaking briefly, then he ended it off with a loud sigh.

"Oh god, that was a good one. Alright—enough playing around. Let’s get this over with...”

"Don’t want to keep my princess Aoi waiting."

Minato stood up and glanced toward the sound system in the corner of the chemistry lab. Without hesitation, he walked over to it, the phone still in hand.

He set it down beside the medium-sized speakers and crouched, rummaging through the cables underneath the table. After a brief search, he found the wire he needed and plugged the phone into the sound system. The connection clicked into place.

Then he checked the volume, turning the knob slowly until it was just below the maximum limit. He looked over his shoulder once toward the door, listening for any movement outside the lab, and then looked back at the phone.

“Alright,” he exclaimed. “This should do it.”His thumb hovered over the screen, ready to start the music.

But then he stood up again and moved toward the bottles of chemicals lined up on the counter. His eyes scanned them quickly before grabbing a set of three different chemicals—sulfur powder, potassium nitrate, and alcohol. He poured them carefully into a beaker, and the liquids and powders started fuming slightly as they combined.

With a decent amount of force, he threw the chemical mixture onto the pile of lab coats in the corner... Flames erupted immediately, crackling and eating away the fabric.

Minato slowly stepped back, with his arms crossed, and a wide and dark smile on his face.

“Too bad that prick, Yuto Sato, is already dead,” he clicked his tongue twice. “Would’ve been nice to see him burn with the university…”
“Wait… Minato, are you sure he’s not still alive?” he questioned his own intuition.

Then he laughed softly, shaking his head and running a hand through his hair. “There’s no way he survived that many zombies with a broken skull.”

He stepped closer to the sound system. “And even if he did—he’ll burn with the building anyway.”

Without hesitation, he hit the play button on Saki’s phone, and the music blasted at high volume...

Satisfied with the outcome, Minato ran out of the chemistry lab and crouched behind a desk in the hallway, peeking out to watch. The music from the chemistry lab echoed down the hallway... Moments later, moans, roars and the shuffling of zombies could be heard from the other end of the hallway, steadily moving toward the sound coming from the chemistry lab.

Meanwhile, Minato leaned back against the wall for a moment, smirking as the zombies stumbled into the chemistry lab, completely drawn by the music.

The fire from the chemical mixture he had thrown earlier had already started to spread rapidly, eating away the edges of the hallway and was filling the air with smoke.

“Looks like my job’s done here,” he mockingly muttered, waving at the zombies and the flaming hallway as if it were all a show just for him.

Then he turned and ran in the opposite direction, heading toward the university parking lot...
