Chapter 3:

The king of the dark ages

The greatest summon

Mia Sato
When summoning, it was a condition that one had to say the known titles of their summon. That was a condition in summoning.
That was why, when I heard the titles Akida spoke, I doubted my hearing.
"The true conqueror. The king of the dark ages. I summon you... Barca."
My eyes widened.
"No... Stop! You'll get yourself killed!" I shouted.
Akida... I didn't know if it was foolish arrogance... Or desperation, but this was dangerous.
It was obvious that this boy who could not kill a basic order Aberrant, would never be able to summon such a high ranked spirit. Barca, was a summon of the supreme order. In history, this summon has only been summoned twice.
It was obvious an Arcanist of the basic order, could never summon him.
It was impossible.
Now, this boy of the basic order, stood before an Aberrant of the 1st order. In short...
He was already dead.
Suddenly, something happened.
Giant streaks of lightning bolts began to suddenly descend from the sky, striking the ground around Akida.
The surroundings suddenly seemed to change, and a giant palace appeared. We were inside this grand palace, and behind us...
There was a throne.
On the throne, sat no other than Barca. The greatest summon.
He had a body that seemed to have been moulded from steel, its surface as smooth and unyielding as a black diamond.
Streams of crimson larva flowed amongst the many cracks in his body, and antler like horns extended from his head, into the sky. Another 2 pairs of smaller horns framed his face, and at its end was 2 glowing embers that served as eyes.
A hood similar to that of a cobra framed his neck, and 2 jet black wings sat behind his back.
Barca stood, and the palace slowly disappeared. He began to walk.
Tap.
Tap.
Each step sent tremors down my shivering body, and I dared not move. Hell, I dared not breathe. I feared offending this great being, perhaps breathing the same air he did... Perhaps that was blasphemous enough that he'd consider it a crime.
He passed me, and walked towards Akida. Oh... Akida. He was the one who summoned Barca.
How? Was he incredibly lucky... Or was this his true strength.
Barca stopped before Akida. Akida raised his head, his gaze meeting that of his summon.
"No, you fool! Don't look at him. Don't..." I felt like shouting, but I could not move. I could not talk.
Then, I heard Barca speak. His nonchalant, majestic voice nearly drove me insane.
"Boy. You've finally quit your cowardice."
Akida did not back down. Nor did he seem scared. He instead seemed... Angry. However, he did not speak.
He turned around and pointed to a trembling creature behind him.
Barca turned, his head to the 1st order Aberrant.
"Ah. Very well."
Suddenly, he was standing before the Aberrant. Despite how tall the Aberrant had been, Barca seemed to tower over it. Barca lifted his hand, and flicked a finger.
As if it were smoke being blown away, the Aberrant was torn to bits. Until, nothing remained.
"Now. You've done your job." Akida raised his hands. His fist outstretched, his palm open. Once he closed his palm, Barca would be unsummoned.
However, things did not go that way.
Barca suddenly appeared before Akida, and suddenly there was a gaping hole in Akida's body.
"Did you think you could just summon and unsummon at your own will? A pathetic weakling like yourself?"
Akida dropped to his knees, spitting up blood.
"Now... I'll have some fun," Barca said, looking around.
Then, his eyes met mine. I looked down in a panic. My heart began to beat wildly as I prayed.
"Please ignore me! Please ignore me! Please..."
"Well... Unlike that boy, you seem to know your place."
He was right before me.
The pressure was unbearable. It felt like my lungs were on fire, like my throat was being squeezed.
I closed my eyes, waiting for something to happen.
However, I heard a familiar voice.
"My, my, my. What a mess."
I dared to look for the speaker. Seeing him, felt indescribably relieving.
Professor Izan had arrived.
