One step toward dream

The bullet train finally reached Tokyo.

Ren walks out of a station and looks at Google's map on his phone.

“Welcome, Ren…”

An old man waved his hand from the other side of the road. His silver hair shining, and his posture calm but strong. Standing there, old man again said 

“ Ren , look at this side — I'm here.”

Ren turned toward the voice and he saw his grandpa. He smiled and said.

“ Grandpa,  I'm coming toward ~ wait!”

Ren walked toward his grandpa, carrying his backpack on his shoulder. Ren stopped at the red light and waited.

When it turned green, Ren crossed the zebra crossing .

The moment Ren reached the other side, he ran forward and hugged his grandpa tightly.

Grandpa also hugged Ren tightly and said. 

“ Ren… I've missed you so much,” grandpa said. “ The last time I saw you, you were only five years old. And after 11 years… I finally get to see you again.”

Ren looked up at his grandpa and said.

“  I have also missed you too, grandpa — every single day.”

Then suddenly grandpa looked surprised and said,

“ I  talked to your mom. She told me you haven't fully controlled your power yet, and you don't have much experience on your power ….

But your psyche waves … they're incredibly strong”

Ren said, “ Really, Grandpa? But… I haven't even used my full power yet!.

Every time I try , a sharp pain hits my head.”

Grandpa smiled and said, 

“ Don't worry, Ren. I believe in you. You'll soon gain full control over your power.

But for now …let's go home.”

Ren replied, “ Yes, Grandpa.”and smiled.

Then Ren and his grandpa start walking toward the home.

Grandpa walks beside Ren, he thinks.

( Ren's psyche waves … they're not at a normal level. With this potential, Ren could become one of the top heroes someday.) 

Finally, Ren and Grandpa reach home. Grandpa takes out his keys in pocket and unlocks the home door. Together, they both step inside a house.

Ren looks around home and says, “ Grandpa … the house feels just the same as before.”

Then Grandpa says, “ You sit on the couch, Ren. I'll get some water for you.”

Then, Ren walks into the living room and sits on the couch. Grandpa brings a glass of water and hands it to him. Ren slowly drinks the water. 

Just then, the door bell rings .

Ding - Dong! Ding - Dong!

Ren asks grandpa, “ Who's coming at this time, grandpa?”

Grandpa smiles and says. “ Hmm… looks like someone arrived earlier than I expected. Go, Ren, and see who's come to meet you.”

Ren looked confused, but he stood up from the couch, and walked to the door to open it to see who had come.

Ren almost reaches the door, but the person outside of the door keeps ringing the bell non-stop.

Ding - Dong! Ding- Dong!

“ Wait, wait ! I'm coming!” Ren says.

Then Ren opens the door.

An orange - haired girl immediately jumps forward and hugs Ren.

From behind, Grandpa walks over with a gentle smile and says.

“ Welcome, Hina”

“ Hello Grandpa,” Hina says with a smile. 

Ren looks at her with surprise and says.

“ Hina… It's been so many years since I last saw you.”

Hina smiles and says.

“ I'm very happy to see you again, Ren!”

Grandpa laughed quietly and said.

“ All this talking can wait for later. Come inside first.”

Then Ren and Hina walk toward the living room, while Grandpa heads toward the kitchen, he is taking some snacks for Ren and Hina.

Ren and Hina sitting on the couch, talking about Ren’s journey. Then Grandpa enters the living room. He is carrying a tray. The tray has three glasses of orange juice on it. There is also a cake on the tray. Ren’s mom has made this cake.

He places a tray on the table, then cuts the cake  — giving one cake piece to Hina, one to Ren, and keeping one cake piece for himself.

Everyone enjoyed the cake. After finishing Hina’s attention it goes to a photo on the wall. In the photo, Grandpa is in a soldier’s uniform, standing proudly with his full squadron.

Hina looked at the photo curiously and asked.

“ Grandpa…you look so young in this photo! Are you really in the army at this young age?”

Grandpa looks at the photo for a photo and says.

“Hmm… In this photo, I am only 11 years old,” he says. “ At that time, the world war is happening, and men are being sent to the war. I was full of passion back then… so even at 11, I joined the army for my country.”

Ren and Hina look at Grandpa in shock.

Hina's says

“ Wait… the world war ended 81 years ago. That means… eighty - one plus eleven, you are ninety -two years old, Grandpa!”

She looks Grandpa him up to down in disbelief.

“ But you look like you're in your 60s! And you're so healthy too. How is that even possible in this world?”

Grandpa smiled calmly.

“ The reason behind this is psyche waves,” he says. “ Those waves directly affect the mind. If you fully control your psyche waves or you gain enough experience and keep both your mind and body strong —  your body doesn't age normally, but this is a very rare phenomenon.”

He looks at Ren and Hina seriously.

“ But that doesn't mean you become immortal.”

Hina looked at Grandpa with sparkled eyes.

“ That means you're special, Grandpa.”

Grandpa laughs. “ Hahahh… I'm not special,” he says. “ But this is something very hard to achieve.”

Then Grandpa looked at Ren and said, “ Ren, I will train you to help you control your power, and Hina, if you wish , you can join training too.”

Ren looked happy, “ Thank you, Grandpa. If you train me… then I will  definitely pass the entrance exam.”

“ That's a great opportunity, Grandpa. With your guidance, both Ren and I will become better, and I will never reject this opportunity.” Hina says.

Then Grandpa says, “ Alright then, your training starts tomorrow!”

Hina looks at Grandpa with hopeful eyes and says.

“ Grandpa, I have a request. Ren came to Tokyo after so many years… so please give him at least one day of rest. Because, I want to give him a Tokyo tour myself. Please accept my requessst — Grandpa.”

Grandpa smiles and says, “ Hahha…alright, one day of rest.”

“ Thank you, Grandpa,” Hina says.

Hina checks her phone. “ I should head home now,” she says. She stands up and smiles, “Bye Grandpa. Bye Ren, and Ren we'll meet tomorrow at 11:00  A.M, at Tokyo Central square.”

Then Hina waves one last time, then walks to the door and leaves. The door closes behind her.

Grandpa stood up and said. “ Come on, Ren. Let me show you your room.”

Both of them walk toward the stairs and go up to the first floor. Then Grandpa opens the door.

“ This is your room. I already cleaned it for you ,” Grandpa says.

Ren rushes in inside a room and jumps onto the bed. “ Thank you, Grandpa,” he says.

Grandpa smiles and says. “ Get some rest now. I'll call you when dinner is ready.”

Then Grandpa leaves the room, and Ren lays back on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He is thinking about his Mom and dad .

After some time later Grandpa calls from downstairs, “ dinner is ready, Ren”

Ren comes down, and both of them eat dinner together, happily sharing a beautiful moment.

Later, they return to their rooms and go to sleep and Ren is excited for tomorrow's tour.
