The Final Part of the Trilogy

The Counsellor sat down, surrounded by the three infants, ready to cast the final spell and seal the wicked god away. His focus was disrupted by screams and cries from outside. The pale god walked in slow steps and sat by his counsellor, “This seal, it’s weak.”

“I know, I am but a human.”

“No, you don’t understand. This seal won’t remove my being—it will force me to live, watch… It is such a sad fate, why can’t you just kill me?”

“I will, I promise. I’ll find a way…”

Awako kneeled and put its white hand on the man’s cheek, its lips forming a smile. “Look at what you’ve become, you were small and weak as a child.” The god sat facing him and spoke again, “I will let you seal me, but I have one condition.”

“What would that be?”

“You’re coming with me.”

The counsellor closed his eyes and nodded. He extended his arm and spoke.

“For you—to whom words are magic—I promise to share your curse, your pain and your company for the rest of our life. And when the time comes, I promise to rise and put an end to it.”

The god matched his motion and extended its arm, “I am a war god, I cannot die without a battle. Let humans learn and teach my magic, let them try to reach my heights. Once they do, let them break this seal. Now, speak this spell and your seal will be complete.”

“Sensei…” Yuusuke shook the teacher’s shoulder, “Are you okay?”

“I am…” his hand naturally brushed tears off his eyes.

“To the death of Akihiko Hayato.”

The world dimmed again, everything down to the train’s noise went absolutely silent. That level of silence was so deep it induced fear rather than comfort, as if the world were a gigantic vacuum. Next to Akihiko, sat the one whose face and memories he shared, and facing the two was the pale one.

“It is finally time you die.” Said the two in synchronisation.

“Do not be so sure, you still have me to kill.”

“You’re right, if I were to fight you alone, I would stand no chance.” The noise and light returned as they answered, “Luckily, I don’t have to. I have allies on whom I can rely.”
