Chapter 1:

...that magic exists!?

Sunflower Brooms

They had already been in the interrogation room for three hours. The two cops interrogating Tadano Dano had their hands tied. There wasn’t a fast way to search their criminal list, since the virtual criminal system was mysteriously taken down. The main suspect was a 900-year-old witch, with the appearance of a 12-year-old child, who had stopped the city’s administration areas. All of a sudden.

"So, you’re telling me… that — Dano was interrupted by the male cop"

"We’re telling nothing. You tell us — He was still a white collar, someone with a low patent,  working with the police forces for one to four months. — Your appearance matches the witc–OUCH!"

By his side, stepping with her high heels in the guy’s left foot, was the city’s chief police — the female cop in the room, named Saisatsu Tenkei — with a dark grey collar. She was not very old in the job, but her skills had led her to that major position.

"Sorry, sir. I still don’t understand. I-I’m not a witch, and I have nothing to do with the city’s virtual control system shutdown."

Dano was truly confused. She was vending handmade brooms in a crowded commercial center when the white-collared police man approached and took her to his station.

"My brooms are alone. What will I do if someone steal them. My sister and I spent the whole night making them."

"Answer it fast, then you may go back to your brooms, deal?"

Someone knocked on the door, stopping their conversation. They all looked at it, while Tenkei attended. She was given an envelope.

"The analog test is here — while taking a paper out of the yellow cover — … and"

"and what" — white collar was bored, waiting sat at a chair next to Dano — "Can I arrest her now?"

"It seems she is not marked..."

"Marked?" — Dano didn’t know what that meant — "What do you mean by mar–"

"Listen — Tenkei looked serious now, but her words were still gentle — nothing you heard here matters, and it seems it was all a misunderstanding. We will need you to sign some papers, then you may leave."

Dano was going to ask something, but the white collar cop interrupted her thoughts:
"Isn’t it better to… you know… brainwash her"

"Brainwash?!" — Dano looked almost with disgust, certainly horrified, at the serene face of the female police officer.

"Please, don’t use this word. It will scare her — Tenkei became thoughtful for a while —
You know… anyway, we will have to take you to the mind improvement room"

They left the interrogation room and began to walk towards the "Mind Improvement" place.
Mind Improvement… something seemed wrong to Dano. That probably meant she’d forget what just happened, and mainly, that witches existed. But this fact was just… amazing. A 9-century-old witch was mistaken for Dano. Just because she looks like a 12-year-old girl?

"Never mind, that seems awesome" — Dano muttered

Tenkei replied with gentle eyes:
"What you’re saying, Miss Tadano?"

"O-Oh. Nothing, sorry, I was just… thinking"
