Chapter 92:

Return Home

My Job is a Mess, But So is My Love Life: Wage Slaving, Weird Co-Workers, and Wild Romance

"So they finally let you free," teased Leigha as she walked with Miles and Ramona to the restaurant.

To give Anita a break after the double shift, Leigha offered to cover her morning shift that Saturday. Ramona was also going in to help with the lunch rush.

"Yeah, the doctors said it was nothing too serious, so they released me this morning. I’m going to have a bruise for a while, though."

Ramona rubbed the back of her head, her hair hiding any possible lumps.

"Sorry," mumbled Miles.

"It’s okay," assured Ramona, moving closer to him and holding his arm tighter.

"And now you two are together," Leigha squealed as they entered the back of the restaurant. "I’ve completed my life's work here. Maybe I should start looking for a new job," she teased.

"Don't!"

The group turned to see a panicked Cyrus, whose hair was all out of place and looked like he hadn’t washed it in days.

"Please don’t leave. I was wrong. I’ll hire more waiters. Please don't leave yet," he begged, prostrating himself on the floor.

"Alright, time for a nap," said Shasta as he came up behind Cyrus, picking him up off the ground. Anita followed, still in her regular clothes, helping Shasta move Cyrus over to the breakroom.

"What happened to him?" asked Miles.

"Oh, he had to work as a waiter last night," informed Anita. The trio followed them to Cyrus’s office, where Anita and Shasta set Cyrus down in his chair.

"We’ll hire more workers, I promise. More part-timers because I cannot handle three people missing again. Do you know how packed the restaurant was last night?"

"Packed," guessed Miles.

"To the brim. It was as if everyone decided to dine out at once. Exhausting. I need a nap or a coffee," Cyrus complained.

"Here’s your coffee." Sierra bounced up and presented the mug to Cyrus. He took a sip and immediately sank into his chair as the caffeine hit him.

"Alright, I’ll see about hiring one more person."

"Make that two, since I’ll be leaving in the spring for university," corrected Miles.

"What?! When was this? How was it? When were you going to tell me?"

"I did, right now. I was waiting until I decided which schools I’d be applying to in the winter before announcing it."

Cyrus growled, taking another drink of his coffee. "Fine, at least you intended to tell me."

"I might visit my father next year, so make that three," announced Leigha.

"Ugh! Stop springing unemployment on me. Now, who else will be leaving soon?"

The group all looked at each other.

"Could you also hire one more cook, just in case?" asked Sierra, looking at Shasta, who frowned.

"I’ll see what I can do," grumbled Cyrus, twisting in his chair to face the computer and slamming his door shut. The rest of the staff returned to business as usual.

"So many couples here," squealed Leigha, pulling Anita and Ramona to her. "Our next target should be finding someone for Sierra."

"I’m good, thank you." Sierra hurried off to the kitchen.

"She’s no fun. Sierra, it doesn’t have to be a long-term romance. Just someone to go on a date with," whined Leigha as she followed after Sierra.

"I’m going to make sure Leigha doesn’t get too crazy," Anita assured Shasta before following after Leigha.

"So, you two are finally together?" Shasta asked Miles and Ramona.

The teens turned completely red but nodded simultaneously.

"Nice. Hurry and get ready for the day. And stay professional."

The two watched as Shasta left the room, then turned back to look at each other. Ramona still managed to hold onto Miles’ hand.

"I’ll see you in a bit," he assured, giving her hand a squeeze, which Ramona returned.

"See you in a bit."

They both split off towards their changing rooms, ready to start the day.
