Chapter 8:
Everyone Thinks I’m Lying
By Day Fifteen, it was official.
We were the audience’s favorite.
The host announced it with a grin.
“Congratulations,” she said. “You two are leading every engagement metric.”
Applause filled the room.
I felt sick.
Diary Room – Day 15
Being loved by strangers is terrifying when you don’t know who you are yet.
The perks were immediate.
Private dinners. Extra screen time. Softer editing.
But so was the pressure.
“Lean into it,” production suggested gently.
“Give them something real.”
Arjun’s phone privileges were revoked entirely.
Mine never existed.
The outside world was shaping us without our consent.
That night’s task was cruelly simple.
Truth or Silence.
Each pair would be asked one question.
They could answer honestly or remain silent and face suspicion.
Our question appeared on the screen:
ARE YOU IN LOVE?
The room went still.
The cameras closed in.
I felt my pulse in my throat.
Arjun looked at me.
Not asking permission.
Asking trust.
He took a breath.
“Yes,” he said.
The house exploded.
Gasps. Shouts. Applause.
My heart slammed against my ribs.
I didn’t speak.
Silence was my answer.
Diary Room – Day 15
I didn’t say it.
Not because it wasn’t true.
But because once you say it here, it belongs to everyone.
That night, the internet crowned us.
Memes. Edits. Fan theories.
But the house turned colder.
Someone confronted Arjun openly.
“If you’re not gay,” they said, “what does that make this?”
He didn’t answer.
I did.
“It makes it human.”
Later, in the quiet of the bedroom, Arjun faced me.
“You didn’t say it,” he said softly.
“I couldn’t,” I replied. “Not there.”
He nodded. “I know.”
Then finally....he kissed me.
No cameras caught it.
No audience saw.
Just two people choosing truth in the dark.
Diary Room – Arjun
I don’t know if I’ll survive this show.
But I know I won’t regret this.
