Chapter 10:

Chaotic Evil

The Bridge to Kyousei

“–And that’s how it was, President. Arata-kun was trespassing in the girls’ section, peeking from the top of a tree.”

Yua-san folded her arms with a perfectly smug smile, chin tilted up as if she were presenting irrefutable evidence in court. Her disciplinary committee armband gleamed under the rays of sunlight scattering into the student council room.

Across from her, Arata-kun and Hiro-kun stood side by side like criminals on display.

Arata-kun, however, looked nothing like a criminal.

He looked like a kid who was brought to an amusement park for the first time.

“This cute disciplinary committee member brought us here herself,” Arata declared, beaming as he bowed slightly toward Yua.

“President, I’m very sorry for my actions. But please understand. I couldn’t ignore such dazzling justice guiding us through the halls.”

Yua-san’s smug face twitched. “D-Don’t try to butter me up, you idiot! You were obviously peeking!”

Hiro-kun stared at the ceiling as if he were trying to detach his soul from his body. Knowing well the “dazzling justice” buttered up both the president and Yua.

He murmured to himself lowly.

“Why is he like this?” Hiro-kun lowered his gaze.

At the head of the long table sat the student council president, Rei-senpai. Her long red hair was neatly tied with a ribbon, yet subtle signs of stress remained on her ever-beautiful face.

Unlike Yua’s visible irritation, Rei’s expression was calm and composed, the corners of her lips faintly curved.

“So,” Rei said, resting her chin gently on her interlaced fingers.

“Arata-kun was in the girls’ area, on a tree, looking in. That’s the report?”

“Yes.” Yua-san nodded sharply, her smugness returning at the chance to repeat herself.

“I caught him red-handed. I, Yua of the disciplinary committee, guarantee it.”

She glanced at Arata, expecting him to wilt under the president’s gaze.

Instead, Arata-kun straightened, eyes shining.

“President Rei-senpai,” he said.

“I wasn’t informed that trespassing into the section was forbidden. And also, once again, I’d like to praise Yua-san for her brave escort. Isn’t she impressive? She marched us all the way here like a professional jailer.” Arata-kun added proudly, though Hiro-kun felt his eyes popping out from his exaggerated bad acting.

“Jailer—?!” Yua-san’s cheeks flared. “Who are you calling a jailer! I’m maintaining order!”

Hiro-kun’s eyes drifted to the window, where a bird hopped casually along the ledge. He whispered ever so quietly,

Take me with you… oh free bird! Who doesn’t have to deal with this devil?

Rei-senpai’s shoulders shook faintly. For a moment, it seemed like she was suppressing amusement.

She chuckled softly as her tired gaze turned into an endearing one.

“You’re quite enthusiastic about apologizing, Arata-kun,” she said.

Arata scratched his cheek, a faintly wicked smile tugging at his lips. “Well, I have to give a proper performance. After all, this cute disciplinary committee member went out of her way to drag us here.”

Stop calling me cute while you confess your crimes!” Yua-san snapped, pointing accusingly at Arata despite blushing as red as a tomato.

“President, please don’t be deceived by him! He’s clearly a repeat offender!” she pleaded.

Rei-senpai tapped the table lightly with one finger, silencing the room. Her gaze slid from Yua to Arata, then briefly to Hiro, who was still staring at the sky like a philosopher at the end of the world.

“I see,” she said quietly. “Well, I can’t say I’m surprised.”

Yua-san smirked. “Exactly. That’s why… ”

“But,” Rei-senpai continued, cutting her off, “I did have a promise with Arata-kun.”

The room went still.

“…Huh?” Yua-san blinked. “A… promise?”

Rei-senpai’s lips curved a little deeper into a knowing smile. She adjusted her glasses, the light flashing across the lenses.

“Yes. A promise with him. In secret,” she added.

“E-Excuse me?” Yua-senpai’s voice jumped an octave.

“SECRET? With him? Since when?! President, what do you mean?”

Arata’s smile sharpened into something openly vile, his eyes glinting with mischief.

“Ah, President,” he said lightly, “you’re going to bring that up?”

Rei-senpai didn’t answer immediately. She just let the silence stretch.

Yua-san’s smug expression slowly began to crumble.

“Wait,” she stammered, looking between them.

“Hold on. What promise? Why don’t I know about this? I’m on the disciplinary committee. I should know everything related to… ”

“It was a private agreement,” Rei-senpai replied smoothly.

“Between the student council president and a certain troublesome student,” she added.

“Troublesome is harsh,” Arata-kun said playfully, clearly not offended.

Yua-san’s eyes widened. “Private? A-agreement?!”

Her imagination visibly began to run wild seeing the two’s casual demeanor.

“No way… Don’t tell me… Some kind of… special favor…?”

Rei-senpai gave a tiny, secretive chuckle and said

“The details are confidential. I have no obligation to disclose the contents to you, Yua-san.”

“Wha— you’re not going to tell me?!” Yua turned to Hiro-kun.

Arata-kun turned to Yua-san slowly, his smile now fully demonic.

“Yua-san,” he said sweetly.

Thank you for escorting me to our little… arrangement,” Arata-kun said softly, though his face contrasted with his sweet words.

She tensed up in a stiff attention pose just from his vile gaze and smile.

W–Wait, what arrangement?! President! Arata-kun! Someone explain!

Rei-senpai only watched her with amused eyes, offering no further explanation. “In any case,” she said,

“Today’s incident falls under… let’s say, for the sake of that promise. So, for now, there will be no punishment.”

Yua-san froze.

“No… punishment…?”

Arata-kun’s shoulders relaxed in exaggerated relief.

Ah, as expected of Rei-senpai. So generous. Truly a goddess.”

“Don’t call the president a goddess!” Yua-san shouted automatically, then hesitated.

“B-But… no punishment? But I caught you! I dragged you here! I… I was so proud of myself…” she pleaded.

Arata-kun leaned closer, his voice dropping into a teasing whisper just loud enough for Yua-san to hear.

“Your hard work was very helpful to us,” he said.

“Really. Thank you for delivering me right to the president.

Her eye twitched. “Delivering… you?…” Her brain spun into countless scenarios involving the president and Arata.

Hiro-kun needed to seek advice from the free birds about dealing with Arata’s antics as he dragged Yua-san out of the room.

“SOMEONE TELL ME! ARATA-KUN! PRESIDENT! WHAT'S WITH YOU TWO!”

Yua-san called out as she was held back and out through the door by a now philosophical Hiro-kun.

“I won’t always play along with your antics, Arata-kun,” said Rei-senpai, softly warning him.

Arata turned to face her confidently.

“Rest assured. My Plan to help you rest whilst taking on all the work of the entire council is…”

“Don’t monitor every club by yourself daily,” he requested Rei-senpai.

“It only leaves meetings and paperwork for you to do, saving you most of the day,” he added.

“But what about the clubs who will-” Rei-senpai was abruptly cut off.

“And…If you let me, a nobody like me, just… put up a tiny notice on the school’s announcement board,” Arata continued.

“I’ll make sure the Academy’s clubs won't misbehave ever again.”
