Chapter 2:

Chapter 2: Kind

Numen

After we finished goofing off, I moved on to the most important topic:

- How are you getting home?

- Uhm…

- Can't you use some kind of teleportation magic?

If she's a god, she must know how to use magic.

Emily held onto her left arm and looked to the side.

- I can't use it, and even if I could, you can't hop between worlds with it…

Why did she suddenly get so sad?

- You're sure you don't have any ideas? Aren't the other numen going to come for you?

- They might come for me; it's just that coming to Earth the usual way takes more time…

She sounds uncertain saying that. She doesn't seem like someone who has no friends.

- And you can't just fly up to heaven with your wings either?

- My wings?! – Emily looked at the wing on her back and touched the one on her head as well. – My wings have finally come out!

- You didn't have wings until now?

- Every numen has wings, I just somehow couldn't spread mine.

- And you can't fly back with them?

- I can't. I need time to learn how to use them.

- Ugh! Fine, this isn't what I wanted, but if there's no quick fix, then you can stay at my place for a while!

I honestly never would've thought it, but starting today I'm getting a roommate–and it's not a cat, it's a human!

Emily bowed.

- Thank you for letting me stay with you.

And now she's all polite–I just can't figure out what's going through girls' heads.

- Can you make your wings disappear?

- Ah! Yes, I can! – Emily, straining, went "mmmm!" and made them vanish.

On the way back to the station, I bought her an ice cream, and she looks a lot happier now.
Kaito and Emily boarded the train just as it was about to depart.
I'm exhausted from all this traveling, so I'll rest for a bit now.

Emily was admiring the scenery outside the window.

- Listen, Emily, there are a lot of people here, so it'd be better if you didn't stand out so much... You know what, never mind–with that outfit, you already stand out! Shouldn't you put on something over your top that covers you a bit more?

- Hey! This is normal for us!

- Well, it's not normal here! Don't you have some kind of clothes-making magic?

- There is such magic, but they never taught it to me, and I don't think I'd even be capable of it…

- No worries. I just can't buy you clothes today, because by the time we get home, the clothing stores will already be closed.

It's a three-hour train ride, so we'll only get home by sunset.

In front of Kaito's house.

- WOW! – Emily exclaimed loudly. – Your house is huge!

She thinks this is a big house? I mean, it's two stories, but houses like this are common in this neighborhood–though mine is a little newer.

The naive Kaito lives in a white, two-story luxury house with two balconies.

Kaito and Emily went inside, and Emily quickly looked around.

- What's this? What's this?! – Emily pointed at a TV in one of the rooms.

- Oh! This is my 77-inch LG OLED77G51 TV. The excellent LG OLED series TV delivers a true cinematic experience. It offers amazing visuals thanks to modern OLED technology and support for HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision IQ. The 100/120 Hz refresh rate is perfect for those who love dynamic scenes. Great sound is provided by 60 W speakers, all while delivering precise 4K Ultra HD resolution despite its size. Features include HDR, TÜV Low Blue Light, TÜV Flicker-Free, Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Digital AC3. It also boasts popular smart features like HbbTV, a smart remote, voice control, a web browser, 360° video playback, and an ECO mode.

- So what is it, then? – Emily asked, confused.

- In short, it's a device where you can watch entertaining stuff. I usually only watch anime on it or play on my PS5, but it has lots of other channels too.

- Whoa! So it's like a phone, only bigger?

- Almost, but not really! This is only for watching series, movies, anime, or playing games, because that's what it's designed for! If you're interested in a few series, then I can–

- Okay, cool. – As Kaito continued talking to himself, Emily walked out of the room.

After a quick house tour, we arrived at Emily's room.

- And finally, this will be your room, Emily. I know there's only a white bed here right now, but I'll buy you stuff–

- Domum ornare! – Emily shouted out in the room while Kaito was still talking.

- ...to decorate your room, if you want.

- Done!

- Aha... so you do know that kind of magic...

A desk and a full-length mirror had appeared in the room, a pink rug now covered the floor, the blanket on the bed had turned pink as well, and the entire room was repainted pink.

It totally screams that this is a girl's room–I mean, it literally screams pink!
After that, I showed her the most important thing: the bathroom!

- Now I'll explain how to bathe!

- I know.

- The main thing–

- What?

- I said I know. We have a bathroom just like this!

- You all don't use magic for it?

- I'm sure there are some who do, but since not many know that magic, we do it the same way you humans do!

I thought this was basic magic, but apparently it's "premium" magic.

- Well, you can go ahead and take a bath, it's already evening.

Emily, blushing, assumed a defensive stance as she spoke.

- Right now?!

...

- I didn't mean it like that! Whatever, just go already! – Kaito shoved Emily into the bathroom entryway and slammed the door.

After a few minutes, I brought her a change of clothes and set it on the washing machine.

- Emily, I brought down your change of clothes! – Kaito shouted through the door.

- Okay! – came Emily's voice from the bathroom, mid-bath.

Come to think of it... there's a girl bathing right next to me, and not only that, she'll be wearing my clothes! No, Kaito, you're not allowed to have dirty thoughts about her.
I already wondered what would happen if she liked me... but I immediately tossed that thought aside.

We're different in too many ways, plus she's not with me because she wants to be–she's here because she has to.

I'm the one who accidentally dragged her into all this.

But even if she did like me later–which is impossible–I still couldn't be with her. I see her like a pet that I need to take care of.

There's also this collar... I always have to watch how I speak so I don't accidentally activate the shock, and I don't want to take advantage of it.
I just hope they really come for her within a few days–until then, for her this will be more like a vacation.

While I took my bath, Emily was watching TV. I came up with a good idea in the bathroom that I need to show her.

Kaito came out of the bathroom.

- Emily, I've got a surprise for you! – Kaito shouted.

Emily excitedly ran over to him.

- What surprise?

- Come with me and you'll see!

Kaito led Emily–who had her eyes shut the entire time–to a nearby park that evening.

Kaito spread out the sheet he brought on the grass.

- Open your eyes!

Emily slowly opened her eyes.

- A... bedsheet?

- Lie down on it with your eyes closed.

- Okay...?

Emily and Kaito lay down on the sheet.

- You can open your eyes now!

Emily opened her eyes – and was greeted by the beautiful night sky.

- Wow! It's beautiful! – Emily raised her hand as if to reach for the stars.

I'm glad she likes it... And she's right–wow! The stars really are beautiful tonight.

Emily glanced at Kaito and started to giggle.

Kaito sat up.

- What? – Kaito asked.

- Kai-kun, you know... when we first met, I thought you were going to be someone who'd take advantage of me. That's why I was so afraid of you–I mean... just looking at you was enough.

- What?! Do I seriously look like that from the outside?

- Maybe. – Emily said, turning her gaze aside.

- But the more time I spend with you, the more I realize what you're really like.

Kaito lay back down, and they looked at each other.

- Really? And... what am I like?

...

- Kind.
