Chapter 23:
Regressor's Guide To Fix Your Life
On one of the top floors of the academy, a crowd of students has abandoned their classes to watch the fight between Instructor Lee and Akira.
At the center of this crowd, stands the top-ranking student of the prestigious, Kyoto Academy of Magic, Takamasa.
A pale, shorter than average boy with soft brown hair, sporting white ‘custom-made’ clothes, befitting royalty, that stood out against the uniform of his colleagues.
Dubbed as the ‘King Spider’ for his ‘Threading’ magic skill—Takamasa is known for his usage of extraordinarily strong 'threads' that branch out from thin air.
King Spider is often hailed as the most likely candidate to join Shin Sekai, Japan's No.1 guild.
From his birth, he was always surrounded by people, who listened to his every word.
Like a cluster of ‘spiders’ that follow their king.
As his followers hold umbrellas over him, he watches the duel between Akira and Instructor Lee with a cold gaze.
“Interesting...” he remarked. “That peasant seems to mimic my style of fighting.”
With a gasp, his followers burst into an uproar of protest.
"What, How insolent of him!"
"Should we capture him to apologize for you, Takamasa-sama!?"
"Just say the word, We'll finish him!!"
When his group offers to capture the Akira for this insulting behavior, the 'King Spider' Takamasa thanks them for their concerns but politely declines.
"I want to see more of his fight." Takamasa replied.
His eyes are now fixed on Akira’s potential.
"Ohh! Any normal student's bone would have been shattered by my Double punch... You're one tough kid, Akira." Lee Sensei is impressed that my leg isn’t broken.
In reality, my leg did break, but my healing factor accelerated far beyond a normal human, even surpassing a ‘Heal’ magic skill’s usual recovery time, leaving only some internal hemorrhages on my leg.
Standing up with a slight limp, I cast ‘Heal’ to clear the remaining blood clots.
“Your magic affinity is Generic. Seems like you’re using ‘thread’ like property on your own body.” remarked Lee Sensei.
Lee Sensei, who possessed the Endurance affinity, had noticed that I mimicked the property of the ‘threads’ from the stadium-sized net I had previously latched onto when he threw me across the sky.
---x---
Magic of this world is defined by 5 distinct affinities:
Manipulation - Controlling elements with mana.
Endurance - Strengthening up your own body and the objects around you through mana.
Producer - Creation of objects out of mana.
Generic - Mimicking properties of elements and objects on one's own body, by circulating mana inside and outside the body.
Rogue - A rare affinity that is up for debate if it even exists to begin with.
---x---
"You have never used skills based on your magic affinity before. Are you becoming desperate? Or, have you completely changed and turned over a new leaf? Which one is it, kid?"
Ignoring Sensei, I jumped around, loosening blood vessels to circulate mana better in my body.
I became light on my feet, stretching off and flying to attack Sensei again.
One last time.
The next punch will seal my fate.
'Win. Win. Win... I have to win right now!'
Winning is all that matters.
I'll change my fate, even if I have to use all the dirty tricks in the book.
"You did become desperate.. This fight is over even before it had begun!" replied Lee Sensei, taking his fighting stance again.
With my sudden flight into the air and the previous sand trail and formed a thick fog of dust on the ground.
I closed in the distance. With my fist raised, I divided in for a decisive blow.
"Not good.. enough!" Lee Sensei countered my punch, yet again.
By using the dust and debris in the air from my commotion, Lee Sensei stiffened the sand particles into a protective 'bubble' layer around him, effectively blocking my punch.
This is the moment.. I was waiting for.
"Bingo!"
With my other arm raised, I dug my nails into the sand bubble, tearing it apart.
"No way!!" Lee Sensei, turning his head around and exclaimed.
By mimicking the property of rocks I had secretly collected in my palms, I stimulated my fingers to become sharp and rough.
The sand trail I had left earlier wasn't just for grip—it was a search for solid objects to mimic.
“Got you!”
With a victorious shout, I took Lee Sensei by total surprise, slamming him from behind, while locking my arms around his throat.
