CHAPTER 5: MAKEOS EXPLAINED (VALIEN, LYLIGAN, AND ITELLIER)
Monstrum Fantasia: The Mysterious Circle
YEARS AGO; THE PYRELLOR HOUSEHOLD, NEXERIA
"Valien! wake up! The big test is today!" a female voice echoes throughout his room. A young man slowly opens his eyes as he processes awakening. He sees his black cat Umbra licking herself in front of him. She walks over him to get the other side of the bed; her heavy paws help keep him on the side of the awakened.
"I'm awake! Uggh! Umbra is making sure of that." He says, grumbling about being used as a rug for the cat. The dark-skinned young man stood up and got into his academy uniform. He goes to Nexeria Academy, where the people here grow up to be the Monstrum they were born to be. The Monstrum are the creatures of the night, the cryptids, and the supernatural beings alike. Once dressed, he proceeded downstairs to see his friends all ready for him. To the left is Itellier, the incubus, his tall, dark-skinned, Green haired friend, and to the right, Lyligan, Itellier's twin, succubus sister with the same complexion, and two-toned navy and pink hair.
"Glad to see the sleepyhead is awake." Lyligan says with a smile, ruffling his hair.
"Ah come on, it's not that late." Valien replies, shooing off her hands trying to get her to stop.
"It's a bit late. So we're not gonna have time for breakfast at home, at least we can eat on the way. Vamyn made these for us before he went out for work." Itellier responds, holding bags of food.
"That's my great-uncle for us; he always knows how to take care of us strays. Let's go!" Valien smiles at his friends, seeing them prepared for the day. Itellier and Lyligan return smiles at him. Valien grabs his backpack, and they head out for the Academy.
STREETS OF NEXERIA, NEXERIA
Lyligan looks at them both as they walk down the street. "Did you both study for the MAKEOS test? This is for a big grade."
"I couldn't put it down; Clyde Danedge's book is absolutely astounding. I'm surprised that some of our teachers are in it too." Valien says with a grin reaching end to end.
"Yes... astounding, and teachers in it. Great book." Itellier replies, far less enthused than his friend and clearly not hiding his failure to read the book.
"Itellier! How could you not study?! It's worth a high grade, and it's important to know how your opponents function. Vamyn keeps teaching us that. At least, you should have the basic knowledge from what he told us. What were you doing last night anyway?" Lyligan says, crossing her arms and staring menacingly at her brother from his study habits, or lack thereof.
"Alright, so maybe I stayed up to play more Legend of Zolda, but it's so much fun, and I love the art style. But, it's just MAKEOS; the forms of supernatural energy. I know each one; it's Mageus, Arcanus, Kaius, Eternalus, Omnius, and Spiritus. What more do I need?" Itellier says, shrugging his shoulders. His thoughts still on the game.
"Itellier, any Monstrum knows the basics of what they're called, but this test is more than the basics; it's the deeper fundamentals and about some users of each one too. Here, Lyligan and I will tell you as we go, it'll be good practice for us too." Valien says with a smile.
"A video game, really? I know I enjoy them too, but priorities, bro. You're lucky Valien's idea is credible. Care to start Valien?" Lyligan says.
"Before we start, let me say thanks for this. I'll try to do better next time, but I was in the middle of this huge story part in the game; one of the main characters looked like they might have died, and then it cut away and I really needed to know what happened to him. Anyway, I won't get distracted, so yes, hit me with the knowledge." Itellier responds.
"We'll begin at the top with Mageus. Mageus is the evolution of Magic; it's become incredibly wild and powerful, shaping this world differently; because of this, it got an updated term. This energy comes from the environmental forces around us. Mageus users wield that energy in many forms, from attacks, conjurations, enchantments, and more. Famous users include: Nero Faust, Jeannette, Fungnir, and The Witches of the Couleur Queendom. They are all so cool." Valien explains, his eyes wide and a huge grin on his face.
"Meanwhile, while Mageus uses the external forces of the environment, Arcanus uses internal forces of the body. This is the energy of emotions; rage, sorrow, joy, fear, and more can each generate destructive forces on the same level of Mageus. The power of Arcanus can create elemental forces, buffs, and more. Arcanus users include: Tiamat, Banus Shadows, Tyrex, and Demetrius Le Rouge. If mismanaged can burn out a user; so this wouldn’t be good for you, Telly." Lyligan states with a smirk.
“Hey! I could handle it if I wanted to!” Itellier rebukes.
“Heh heh, moving on; Kaius is a wild form of energy. Similar to Arcanus, it comes from within. It must be well-trained to be brought out and only for those who seek enlightenment and guidance. It is mainly an offensive form of MAKEOS used for attacks, support, buffs, and more. Users include: Berbiros, Kayna, Tyrex, and Gride. This is one I’ve always thought was neat.” Valien explains.
"Eternalus is one of the most powerful types of supernatural energy. This is a destructive force of power that only certain races have it. It has been difficult to study because of this. Users include: The Eldritch Empire and the Blood Sentinels of OoB. Just try to remember the two groups. There isn’t much here; but it’s important.” Lyligan continues.
"Eternalus is tough, because the Empire isn't open for interviews, especially about how they work, and the Blood Sentinels are basically a myth and no one knows what OoB stands for. I have theories about them, though. Lots of theories." Valien adds.
"To keep going, here's Omnius, the energy of connection. Everything around us is connected to Omnius, even ourselves; it's the lifeblood of our world. That's why to even harness it is dangerous. Users include: Nirahn, Harmonious Strings, Rock Strings, and Roll Strings." Lyligan proceeds.
"Most of the users of Omnius are the Skeltals or the Gillara. They are races in tune with the world through harmony. However, this peaceful energy can be used against us, which is why Nexeria is a big melting pot like it is. Luckily, that worked out for us."
"This should be the easiest one for you to understand, Spiritus. Spiritus is being granted supernatural energy from otherworldly beings or outside forces. These beings or forces usually empower certain races that worshiped or bonded with them centuries ago. Users include: Astorana, and the not quite famous yet, but Itellier and Lyligan." Valien finishes.
"Those last two are the best Spiritus users." Itellier says.
"Glad to hear something my brother and I both agree with. Hehehe." Lyligan replies.
"Well, I might be biased, but it's hard to debate with the evidence in front of me." Valien says, smiling at them both.
The three of them share a laugh together, with big smiles on their faces.
"Do you remember what being gives us our powers?" Lyligan stares at him; her eyes glaring at him.
"Yes, yes, it's Abominus; they give all of us Cubi our powers, because the ancient ones sacrificed a lot of our ancestors for them or something that." Itellier responds with a sigh, repeating something he was told so many times as a kid.
"Good, you paid attention all those times when we were kids. I'm proud of you." Lyligan says with a smile.
"Anyway, Valien, your dad is a big hot shot Arcanus user then right?" Itellier asks.
"It's hard to imagine that he was an anything user. He hasn't been the same since we lost my mother. He just sits around and sulks; it's why I stay with you guys and Great-Uncle Vamyn. However, at some time he was a great user when he was younger, used to tell stories to me all about it. He's actually a Wielder of multiple types of MAKEOS, which made him a powerful foe to lots of people, he said. Oh, that actually might be on the test too; some people are born or learn other forms of MAKEOS. Mageus, Arcanus, and Kaius being capable of being learned by almost anyone; Spiritus can be obtained, but it requires rituals or other prerequisites; Eternalus is impossible; you need to be born with it. And finally, Omnius is different, with everyone connected to it, but can’t use it directly. To actually use it requires a deep affinity for it. Also, it's difficult to access multiple energy types at the same time, most people stick with the one they know best. It really is quite fascinating." Valien says.
"You really enjoy this subject? Don't you, Valien?" Itellier asks.
He smiles widely after hearing the question. "Yes, the world and its mysteries intrigue me so much. I love to learn everything I can about it."
