The first ranked match

I was laying down in the roof while looking at the clouds, tomorrow was going to be Saturday, I peep in a corner and saw a shadow moving a bit and I sighed, I felt my phone rumble and I pick it up, what I read made me put a smile on my face and I stand up.

The message said: First ranked match tomorrow, be prepared.

School passed as slow as it could, I barely could focus today the rest of the classes but that didn’t matter for now. I was moving my leg the entire time until school was over, Yuki was waiting for me at the entrance and Kuronomiya was following us.

I told Yuki about the fight that was about to happen and he punched my back, I smiled and he went to his house while Kuronomiya was following me being my shadow, once I got in my house, I showered and took my stuff to the gym where I just hang up for a bit.

The night came and Tatsu, Yuki, Kuronomiya and I went to the place, this was an official match, but in the lowest category. The place where we went, required us to have our necklaces on, making a building reveal itself and then get verified, but we didn’t go into the arena straight away, we went to the backrooms.

Now, I was sitting down on a chair until Yoru came in and he only did a gesture with his hand, telling me to go. This was different, going from the dark into the light, hearing people’s screams, and on top of that…

Both of us got into the ring and I took a deep breath, while doing little jumps. Yosure was a bulky guy, the details about us were unknown so both of us had the element of surprise, we both looked into each other's eyes with only one word in mind.

The bell rang and we started to approach each other, I approached with some punches but the guy dodged me, he tried to grab me but I jumped a bit back and tried to connect a kick. None of us wanted to reveal our powers first.

But that was inevitable, the moment the guy stepped back I moved and punched the air, a clean hit, and the marker above us showed a point in my favor, the guy smiled and he hit the floor, the entire arena was covered in ice.

I almost tripped, I could feel my feet getting cold, but if it wasn’t frozen by now it means he couldn’t do it or he was waiting for his opportunity, in any case, that’s the reason why he wanted to grab me, if he catches me, it’s over.

I made the air flow a bit in my feet and I approached the guy, I wanted to close the gap between him and me, and I did, the air in my feet made me skated with ease across the ice using the straps on my feet, the guy flinched a bit, seeing how I wasn’t even bothered with the floor being changed.

I started to kick the guy this time. I put the air flowing in my hands too, doing a free style fighting now, not only relying on boxing, I was doing jumps and kicking him and punching him while he only covered himself, not even using ice as a shield.

The moment I knew he was going for a grab I stepped back and threw an air punch, the marker for me was just going up and up, I almost reached the entire twenty points, just a few hits more and at that moment, Yosure snapped.

He made the entire floor grew stalagmites making some of the rubbed me and across my entire body, blood came out of my chest, legs, arms and part of my face, I groaned and the marker went up for him, he then decided to punched the stalagmites to my direction.

His raw strength was good, but his strategy sucked. I just needed to be careful and I won this, I was just five points behind the twenty mark, it was time for the big play of mine, I made my entire body be covered in the flow of wind and I slid through the floor.

The guy tried to aim at me but he failed, by the moment he realized I was already in his face, with my two fists in his face about to punch him, the punch made him bounce in one of his stalagmites and then I run towards him, all the wind flowing across my body went to my fist and I punch him in his face, making his teeth fly away while destroying the stalagmites.

A complete and successful explosion of my power, I started to catch my breath while I looked the guy wasn’t getting up as I cleaned the blood from my check, then I threw my fist in the air and a ton of screams were heard.

“IMPREEEEEEESIIIIIIIIIVE KAMIKAZE’ PUNCH JUST THREW YOSURE AWAY, A SINGLE PUNCH, A POWERFUL IMPACT WHAT A SHOOOOOOOOW GUUUUUUUYS AND WE ARE JUST GETTING STARTED, THIS IS THE FIRST MATCH OF THE DAY, BE SURE TO FOLLOW UP KEN CAREER, THAT WAS INCREEEDIBLEEE!”

The ice started melting and medics and cleaning staff came, I got off the ring and went to the backrooms where my friends, and a medic came with me and started to give me medical attention.

“That was impressive, great job Kazeki”

“The moment that ice guy started to act like crazy it made me worry… good to think you manage to overcome him, Ken”

“T-That was fantastic, Mister Kazeki…”

“Stop guys, haha you are going to make me blush”

The next fight was about to start and then the medic went out of the room.

“Seems you are all good”

“The training with Miss Aoi really paid off, I felt like an entirely different person than when I make my debut”

“This was your real debut thought”

Yoru came into the door, smelling the yens in his hands.

“God, I love this… here, buy yourself something nice”

“I thought I was receiving more”

“This is bet money, kid, you think I was just going to get what you won? ‘Course not”

“Can you do that?” —Yuki asked.

“Why not? In any case, great work kid, hope you feel comfortable in that scenario because you are going to be up in there after today, you not only did great, you exceed expectations”

“Really?”

“Yeah, the page will get updated tomorrow but you should see the results yourself, you can go now, this was your only match”

I nodded and Yoru left, I lean a bit in my chair and watched the rest of the fights, the feeling didn’t disappear at all, if anything, it made it stronger, watching keep me hyped up and I thought about strategies of what to do too, I unlocked a new perspective and I was enjoyed my time.

The others weren’t that excited, Tatsu left after a few matches and Yuki was falling asleep, the only one keeping company in silence was Kuronomiya but then the last match ended, we went to my home and Yuki dropped dead on my couch while I took a shower before sleeping.

The next day, I woke up serving myself a cup of coffee, Kuronomiya approached with a letter in her hands and passed it to me. I took a sip of my coffee and opened the letter, it was a page of my results,

Ken Kazeki, Alias: Kamikaze. Wind user, Amateur… my stats increased in all parts and my fans went up too, I also got an alias.

Inside the letter was also a significant amount of money. More than before, my eyes were wide, it was a better way to wake me up than the coffee, I smiled and I woke up Yuki.

“Yuki look! Yuki!”

“What?”

“I got a big paycheck."

“Wh- THAT MUCH?!”

“What a way to wake you up huh? Haha I’ll split the amount later, for now let’s just go and enjoy our day, you too, Kuronomiya, let’s go somewhere fun”

I smiled and Kuronomiya hid behind the desk.

This was just the first step in the ladder, but I felt like I achieve a ton today, I would face a ton of stronger opponents and that make me excited, but for now, I felt like I deserved a nice rest.
