Chapter 31:

Epilogue

Undreamt Festival: I Bought a Cursed Sword Only to Find a Girl Inside

Mamoru winced as Yuto unraveled bandages around his side. The white-haired man moved a phone with Mirai on screen near the spot.

“Even after two weeks it still shows no signs of closing up. What kind of dagger did she cut you with?”

“I didn’t get a good look,” Mamoru replied.

Mako leaned in and poked his wound. “Ah!” the boy winced.

“It is pretty bad, young master, I’d say that blade was laced with demonic energy. This wound in thy side will probably never heal.”

Mamoru shook his head and rubbed his eyes. It hurt like hell, but it was the wound he took to put Hikari back in her body, and now that she was recovering, he could be happy to bear the injury.

He was glad she could no longer hear his thoughts.

“So, what do we do?” he asked.

Mirari waved for Yuto to grab something; the giant man did as directed.

“For now, we will keep it wrapped in some special bandages I’ve been working on, think of them as being soaked in magical ointment. It will hold off the flow of blood and help to numb some of the pain, but you will have to remember to change them daily.”

Yuto brough the bandages and showed Mamoru how to wrap them around himself. When he was finished, he thanked Mirai and Yuto and left them to discuss whatever it was resistance leaders needed to discuss. Mako matched his pace and hummed a Mirai song he taught her to her. In the weeks since the battle at Strength Tower, she had discovered anime maids, and now was dressed in a black, orange, and white maid outfit of her own making. Mamoru had given up trying to tell her it looked tacky.

He moved through the halls to the main room where Hikari and Yamiko were arguing louder than the news broadcast.

“And I am trying to explain to you witch, that you should never dip sushi in soy sauce!”

“You, like can’t be serious about criticizing how I enjoy my food? Ah, Mamoru, Bae! The hag is being mean to me again!”

Yamiko rushed over to Mamoru and wrapped her arms around him.

“Don’t go crying to Mamoru!”

Mitsou shouted from the couch, “Would you ladies please shut it, I can’t hear the news!”

Mamoru noticed Subarashii was on and wandered closer to the TV.

The broadcaster was covering a recent press conference regarding the strange helicopter crash into the building.

“And the spokesperson for Subarashii had this to say after the conference.” The screen cut to a woman Mamoru had never seen. “We at Subarashii will continue to provide our excellent products and services to everyone even if some rogue bandits are attacking us. We are committed to working for you and remember, we speak your language.”

Mamoru always hated that Suba slogan, it ended every commercial like they understood the common person. He shook his head. Even with the lady on the press conference trying to sound professional, there was worry within the company. People online were noting a massive stock drop, and there were whispers of shareholders getting nervous. Not to mention a new Mirai song titled ‘Subarashii is Falling Over’. It wasn’t the catchiest tune, but it was supposedly by someone new to tuning so it couldn’t be helped.

For the time being, all he could do was rest and continue watching over Mae’s recovery. If that were all he had left to do for the rest of time, he would be content with that, but as he watched the reporter go onto the next bit of news, he wondered if he could get away with that.

Noise from the girls behind took his attention. Yamiko said something about a hag, Hikari shot back with something about a witch, and Mako just laughed with glee. At the very least, Mamoru knew his recovery would be filled with excitement. He turned to the girls, mouth turned in half a smile, and joined into the banter.
