Chapter 22:

Beginning of the attack

The Legend Of Black Knight

Leaving the room where the discussion was taking place, Satoru returned to the room where he was waiting, but this time who accompanied him was the king of the dark elves himself.

"Majesty, if you don't mind, how do you know my family name?"

Confused and curious, Satoru agreed with Hilda and Envy to never use their second name so as not to draw unnecessary attention, in this world the surname culture was always seen as a sign of social status, so using a second name would only bring problems, however, suddenly a person he had never seen in his life called him by his full name.

Not knowing what else to think, the king showed no hesitation, and took a letter from among his clothes, and handed it to Satoru.

"It would be better for you to read it than for me to try to explain."

King Frost Von Fergus, I'm sorry we can't talk face to face, but turbulent times unfortunately aren't easy for anyone.

Being direct, in about a year, you will receive a group of fugitive dark elves who will be accompanying a black-haired human. I know there's no point in following what I say, but his name is Satoru Seigi, and he's your race's only hope, so don't fret, listen to those he protected. If he doesn't believe you, show him this letter.

"Do you understand now?" asked the king with his eyes closed.

"After all, who is this person, and how does she know so much about me?"

Feeling strange, Satoru felt that the Void for a moment showed a reaction, whoever knows where he will be and what he will do, however, what made him most curious was the part "...he is the only hope of your race...”.

"Your Majesty, do you believe in this letter?"

"She hasn't been wrong so far, since the day I received her I limp the days, and today it's one year old, so you arrive with a group of runaway black elves, I find it hard to argue against the letter, and no matter how much I look at you, no I feel hostility.”

"So does that mean we can stay?"

"There shouldn't be any problems, you can stay for two days, just try not to get in trouble.” The king then turned and went back to the room, soon after Envy and Gileon left.

"Big brother, what happened?"

"Nothing much, just that the king thought it better to take the doubts directly with me, that's all, hehe..."

Hiding the letter as quickly as possible, Satoru would prefer to keep this story away from Envy, whoever manipulated things, gave a sense of constant danger, if possible he wanted to never involve her in this whole story.

"You're a terrible liar, you know?"

Narrowing her eyes, Envy stared at her brother, he couldn't fool someone who seemed to be born with a gift for it.

"I'm glad things turned out well, I still have more to report, see you two later," said Gileon who said goodbye returned to the conference room leaving the two free to do what they want.

"So Envy, are you hungry?" Satoru looked at the head and asked.

"Are we going to eat at that store we saw on the way?" Envy excitedly asked with her eyes shining.

"I don't know if it's a store, but I don't see why not?"

Satoru said that and his skin changed color before white now it was brown and the black hair turned white, after that he untied the little rope he used to tie his hair, his appearance was similar to that of a dark elf.

"Eh! Big brother can do this since when?” Startled, Envy took a step back, the abrupt change in appearance shocking her.

"I just don't like wearing it since forever, but I doubt they'll let us get food that easy, so just hide on the way, leave the rest to me." Beating his chest, Satoru smiled confidently.

"Forget it, you can't lie, no food for us today."

Discouraged, the girl walked away, leaving her brother looking embarrassed and a little irritated with such a lack of confidence in him.

Walking through the city of dark elves, Envy and Satoru were going back and forth, because Satoru was disguised as a dark elf, the story that Envy invented is that he was a kind of escort that should keep an eye on her, the main part of the plan is that he should keep his mouth shut and just nod his head.

Still annoyed with such a lack of trust in him, in the end, he had to admit that the plan went very well, as thanks to that they were able to come and go without the dark elves despising them as the human girl seemed to be limited by the guard.

This caught the attention of some because they had never seen this dark elf before, but as this city used to be the refuge for many who saw and went, they ended up accepting the situation.

After they ate and walked all over the place, Envy was exhausted, the day had been quite hectic for her, so Satoru hid and returned to her original appearance as they walked to where Hilda should have been.

When they finally arrived, the elves and the children, seemed much happier now, for being in a familiar place, even though there were still no houses ready to receive everyone, Hilda seemed to be in a corner waiting for the two to return.

Which by the way were reprimanded for having been walking around without warning her, leaving her worried for no reason. Envy even tired wanted to go play with the other children, Satoru stayed and told Hilda about the King's letter, which made the two debate for a long time but without coming up with an answer.

Knowing they could stay for two days, it didn't hurt to stay and relax for a while, Envy also seemed happy to be able to talk to another Breed, which was good.

That ended their day, with Satoru and Hilda trying to figure out who was behind the letters and a human girl looking like she had died in bed inside a tent made for the newcomers.

The next day, everyone was taken to their rooms, but the 3 visitors were supposed to remain using the tents for another day. Which didn't stop Envy from trying to fit in using the other kids she already knew, in less than an hour she had joined all the other kids and they were all playing hide and seek, which made Satoru embarrassed to see the prank he taught became so popular.

Gileon paid a visit, to see how they were doing, but from the dark elf's ears, she could see he'd suffered at the hands of aides for much of the night.

"It's good to see that nothing much happened, those idiots only know how to complain."

Sitting up, Gileon had with him an open green bottle that smelled of something sweet.

Catching curious eyes toward the bottle, Gileon smiled.

"This is a unique drink that both High Elf and Dark Elves know how to make, it's like one of the last things we have in common, even the dwarves have tried to buy the formula, would you like some?"

"Oh, of course."

Satoru grabbed the bottle and drank, a sweet taste like honey came down his mouth, and at the same time it seemed to heat up inside.

“Is that alcohol?!” he said in surprise, looking at the bottle.

"Never drank before, and seems so used to it, as expected from the dragon slayer."

Jokingly, Gileon took the bottle back and laughed.

"Me? Dragon Slayer? But I didn't kill Litchia.”

"Dragonslayers are the ones who defeated dragons, something in itself never seen before, so you don't necessarily need to kill one." Hilda beside her smiled and calmly explained to him the meaning behind the title, which was not what he had expected.

After they talked more, relations with the dark elves seemed to have improved, but Satoru preferred to train with Hilda for the rest of the day, he didn't want to walk around with everyone staring at him.

So everyone went to bed when night came, it was dawn when only the sound of insects was heard when suddenly a trumpet was heard.

Scared, everyone left their homes to see what had happened, a black elf wearing armor, ran across one of the bridges towards the king's residence.

Satoru didn't understand what was happening, talked to Envy and Hilda, and soon after that, he went to see what happened. When he arrived at the same place he knew when he arrived, he found Gileon also in a hurry, he looked scared.

"Something happened?" asked Satoru stopping him on the way.

"The trumpet means human army."

Agitated, Gileon explained everything he knew, this trumpet could only be sounded when an army of humans was seen coming towards the forest, otherwise the situation explained itself.

Following Gileon, the two went up to the audience room, the meeting seemed to have started. When they opened the door, everyone looked towards Satoru, there were some faces that Satoru didn't know.

A sudden silence made the atmosphere awkward, but soon the eyes of some dark elves filled with anger.

"GILEON, HOW DARE YOU BRING THIS HUMAN TRAITOR HERE!"

Who screamed was Alron hitting the table, at that moment a series of hate speeches started to be thrown towards Satoru, who shook his hands, trying to calm down while listening to all sorts of things.

"HE ARRIVES! If none of you have an idea to remedy the situation then be quiet!” said the king silently to all the dark elves, deep down he didn't even like Satoru for looking like a human, but he had information that no one else sitting at the table had.

Seeing that everyone seemed more in control, the king gestured to the two newcomers who sat down.

"Brother Frey, explain the situation again."

Knowing that the king asked for this because of those who arrived last, Frey looked down with contempt, he could not contain his emotions in a situation like this, but for the respect he has, he explained: “A human army was sighted moving towards the forest, their route is very specific so it's safe to believe that knowing about our city, how much they know, that's another story.”

Nodding, the king tried to think of something until he motioned for Alron to speak.

"Our army has a maximum of 50 fighters, there's no chance we can win, it's not confirmed, but they must have more than a hundred soldiers, among them archers and wizards."

Gileon made a bitter expression upon hearing this, even Satoru knew the situation couldn't be worse, human armies used to be large, and depending on the leader, they would even be skilled above average, in this world where magic was rare, they have more of three mages, demonstrated their determination to exterminate the dark elves.

Thinking, going head-on could be the worst thing, even he couldn't defeat them all quickly, those who use magic should be a headache.

But at that moment what scared Satoru the most was the fact that the letter probably predicted it, and if she was right he was the one who would save the elves, but in this situation maybe he would be forced to kill, no matter how he looked at it, Satoru didn't want to get to that point.

As the discussion at the table continued and Satoru kept lost in thought, the door opened once more, another dark elf wearing armor was panting, and what he said made everyone afraid.

"There is another division of humans, coming from the side, all on horseback coming at full speed, it won't be long before they arrive."

"Damn humans, they want to buy time until the main troop arrives!" said Alron getting up, knocking the table again, but this time even he looked hopeless.

"How many?" trying to remain calm, Frey was shaking enough that it was hard to hide her true feelings.

"There doesn't seem to be more than 70, all wearing iron armor and shields, but there are also those in armor using bow and arrow, they seem to know pretty well what they're up against."

The soldier explained as much as he could, but it only served to make everyone more apprehensive. The king remained silent until then, opening his eyes he faced Satoru.

"What do you think, is there anything we can do?" asked the king, if the letter was right, salvation was in front of him, in the midst of the desperate situation, he became the only chance.

Everyone was shocked by the words of the king, asking a human what to do to save their race, made their pride collapse, as if it were nothing.

“If the horses are this close, it's best to focus on defending, but if the bigger army comes, it will be the end, so if you trust me maybe it can work.”

Not very confident in his plan, Satoru wasn't a strategist, he didn't have much talent to come up with plans at the last minute, being afraid that Envy and Hilda would get hurt by being here, only one thing came to his mind.

"Okay then, what do we have to do." the king nodded, leaving everyone in shock once more.

"Simple, Hilda was from the resistance army, she must know how to make an impromptu defense better than me, in return, trust me, and let me fight alone against the larger army."
