Chapter 15:

Baka! >-<

Monday Morning God

After destroying about 90% of Japan, God’s eye hit Korea next. It moved across Asia, making a beeline for New York. Several major nations tried to get in contact with the Japanese government and the Decider’s Guild, but they were simply told that neither existed any more. Also, good luck.

The UN organized a small military force consisting of mostly fighter planes from the US, but the pilots met the same fate as everyone else when they tried to get close.

As God’s eye passed over the north atlantic ocean, the president of the United States ordered an air strike. The missiles simply disappeared before they even left the hangars. The operators reported that there had never been any missiles there in the first place.

The eye had grown another 3000 feet, as well as getting considerably thicker.

Outside of Japan, no one knew what it was or where it came from. They could only assume Ito’s original message was correct. Even that hadn’t gained much attention in western countries.

For most people, dying in ignorance was a blessing.

Isaac forgot to mention that Scarlet would be sleeping on the floor to Em. She wasn’t exactly angry about that, as she knew Isaac would never cheat. She was more upset by the fact that Scarlet had chosen to sleep right next to the bed, where she firmly planted her feet after getting up.

Scarlet let out a strained yelp. Instinctively, Em clocked Isaac with a pillow.

“Who’s this?”

He didn’t wake up until she had hit him five more times.

“Ah, ah, sorry. That’s Scarlet. She’s Jesse’s wife”

“Ex wife, maybe” Scarlet wheezed. She held her stomach tightly and tried not to cry again.

Em carefully stepped over Scarlet and walked over to the bathroom.

“I’m taking a shower. Sorry, Scarlet, but we’re spending today together, and I’ll need you to leave us alone”

Isaac raised a finger.

“About that. We found something that might-”

Em slammed the door closed.

“She’s ah, a little mad at me, right now. It’s okay though, everything's gonna work out. Let’s go and check out that heirloom”

***

The heirloom had, as Isaac hoped, not moved from its spot. There wasn’t really anyone to steal it anyway.

It was a bit cooler that day, but definitely not cold. The sky was completely clear, free of wildlife as well. While God’s eye didn’t bother with life forms of lower intelligence, birds had begun to die en masse since its appearance.

Scarlet and Isaac stared at it for a few minutes, before Scarlet suggested touching it. Isaac shook his head.

“I tried that, and it was freaky”

“Oh, that’s okay, I don’t mind stuff like that. Let me try”

“No, no. I think it’s dangerous”

Scarlet shoved her hand inside. It didn’t quite disappear, but her hand was temporarily "rearranged". Isaac grabbed her arm and pulled it out. It was covered in a black, sticky substance.

“Oh no, oh. Please don’t do that”

Scarlet stared at her sap covered arm in both wonder and horror. It did not feel like cake frosting to her. It was more like a hundred stinkbugs crawling over her arm at once. Liquified stinkbugs.

“Get it off, please”

Isaac took off his shirt and wrapped it around Scarlet’s arm. It started to disintegrate.

“Shit”

There was no water nearby, no hospitals, no one to help. It didn’t come off with a stick, and his scythe proved to be useless as well. He really should have stayed in bed with his beautiful girlfriend. He could have had a full week with her, not just one day.

“Does it hurt?”

Scarlet’s face was completely white now. She held her arm higher up, as not to touch the sap.

“I’m sorry, I’m so stupid”

Isaac squatted beside her.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’m just trying to make sure you’re okay”

“No, it’s my fault. I’m really just a dumb bitch”

“Scarlet, you’re not a dumb bitch. If anyone’s dumb, it’s me. Do you know what day it is?”

Scarlet shook her head.

“Christmas eve. I’m spending Christmas eve without my girlfriend, Scarlet. Isn’t that pretty stupid?”

Scarlet nodded her head.

“That is pretty stupid”

“Watch me, I’m gonna do something dumber”

He shot his hand onto Scarlet’s arm and dragged it across, scraping the sap off. It remained a single oily blob, leaving ne’er a spec behind.

The only issue was, of course, that it was now stuck to Isaac’s hand.

“Ahh, there’s that cake feeling again”

“Liquified stinkbugs”

“Scarlet, I think this is the sap Etsuko was looking for”

“Oh”

“Right, you don’t know what that is. Look, I’m gonna eat some of this, stay clear, will you?”

Isaac brought his arm to his mouth, shut his eyes and-

A dull crack sounded as Scarlet’s skull bashed into Isaac’s. He stumbled backwards as Scarlet grabbed his arm and sunk her teeth in the sap.
“Sorry, I just really like doing that” She said, as the sap began to burn through her throat and chest. Her body crumpled to the ground.

“Oooooooh, honnnnnneyyyyy, I’m on a streak todayyyyyy”

Scarlet started running away from the face, but found herself eye to eye with the sap god. It surrounded her with ears and eye and mouths.

“You know how this worrrrrrks?”

Scarlet hid her face.

“Okay, that’s a no. That’s okay. I’ll tell yooo- Ah!”

All the sap god’s extremities fell at once. It rebuilt itself a bit closer to Scarlet.

“Youuuuu get a wish, I get to screw with your life”

“Could I wish someone dead?”

The sap god laughed.

“Sure thing”

She opened her mouth to speak, then thought better. Suddenly, a plan formed in her mind.

“Can I wish someone alive?”

“Please don’t”

“I want Cass to be alive again”

“Ohhhh goddddddd”

A thousand mouths began to fall from the ceiling. They all let out a long, hollow wail.

“Okay okayyyyy, I’ve never done this before, but you get a dooooo over. Wish again”

“I wish for Cass to be alive again”

Cass appeared in front of Scarlet, completely intact, and alive.

“I don’t even have a punishment, just goooooo away”

***

Isaac saw a bright flash of light before Scarlet’s body regenerated and a green haired woman appeared in front of her. It had all happened in about five seconds.

“Scarlet, thank god you’re okay” He said, reaching to grab her shoulder.

The strange woman grabbed Scarlet away and pulled her into a hug. She was crying.

Isaac wasn’t exactly sure what had happened, but he got the feeling he should have drank the sap first.
