A Deal

There’s nothing around me. Not a single thing, just like always. But wasn’t I just somewhere else? Where is she?

“Welcome, child of the void. I have recognized the suffering your race has put you through as enough. Will you aid me in their destruction? We both know they deserve it. After all, that is precisely what they have been doing to each other for centuries.”

What is that voice, and why is it inside my head instead of outside it? Where is the soothing cold that’s usually here?

“What are you? And what have you done to this place?”

“I have come here to make you an offer. Of preservation, and vengeance. I can feel that you’re deeply yearning for it within your heart of hearts. I am what you people call the spirit realm. To be exact, the very thing that gave you your powers. We grant such powers to individuals to soothe the endless pain your world puts them through.”

It briefly stops speaking, and I can feel something gently brushing through my hair.

“But you, you poor thing. Nobody could possibly bear this power. Your world has warped it beyond repair. Let me aid you in using it, and act out your revenge on that horrid place. You simply need to enter the orb once more, as you’ve done so many times in your dreams. You’re safe inside there. You need not experience any more suffering than what you’ve already been through.”

Where is Laura? Did I leave her behind?

“And what about her? She’s been through just as much as me. Please help her, too.”

“I will look out for her as best as possible. Now, will you take my offer?”

I don’t know what to do. I can’t see her ever again? She must be miserable by now. And all that after just proposing? I was genuinely so glad, and I still am.

“Do not harm her, and I will lend you my power, voice in the void.”

“Of course not. If you wish for me to not end her, I will happily oblige. Now, let us scorch this world of all evil.”

I feel the soothing cold of the orb slowly encasing around me. My mind is immediately at ease. I just wish I could see her again, just once. The orb slowly hardens around me, slowly rocking me into eternal slumber, where I would finally be safe for once.

An incredible surge of power suddenly emerges from within me. It feels as if I just birthed the end of the world itself, yet the gentle brushing through my hair continued. I am safe now, and will be forever going forwards. I wasn’t even alone anymore, for once. The void itself is whispering into my ear.
