Chapter 84:
Orphan Survival
Meanwhile, Hazel, sitting near Shailly, gets his water bottle back from her.
_ Hazel: " Stayed hydrated? "
_ Shailly: " Yep. "
Without exchanging a glance, the two of them continue.
_ Hazel: “ How’s your wound? It looks like the bleeding has stopped. ”
_ Shailly: “ It’s still stinging, but I’m hanging in there. ”
Subsequently, a head turns toward the body covered in scars.
_ Shailly: " Then again, you haven't been spared either. “
The man concerned, quite surprised, looks at his wounds.
_ Hazel: “ Oh, that? Don’t worry, it’s just superficial. ”
_ Shailly: “ Good. ”
Her eyes fixed once more upon the horizon, the young girl’s pupils filled with spite.
_ Shailly: “ This situation sucks. We have to deal with a dangerous person and, on top of that, we’re on the outs with our friends. ”
_ Hazel: " It’s only temporary. They’re more resilient and thoughtful than you give them credit for. Once the situation is resolved, everything will go back to normal. "
An ironic smile plays across their face.
_ Shailly: “ That’s not knowing Maïko very well. Knowing her, she’ll keep bringing up that voting anecdote on loop just to annoy me. "
_ Hazel: " It’s probably just her way of showing how much she cares about you. “
Then, that mocking smile gradually transforms into a sincere one.
_ Shailly: “ Certainly. “
But concern immediately loomed.
_ Shailly: " But... Kona looks like she’s really hurt… "
The man concerned averts his gaze, retracing once more in his mind the weight of his decision.
_ Hazel: " I lost some points today, and even though I feel bad about it, I still think I made the right choice. "
_ Shailly: " Oh, yeah? "
Then stare at the recluse.
_ Hazel: " As unpredictable as it may be, there’s a chance we can turn it to our advantage. And deep down, I’m convinced Kona feels the same way. "
Unable to detect the same insight in her companion, Shailly merely let out a sigh.
_ Shailly: “ I hope you're right. ”
_ Hazel: “ In the meantime, it's better to leave them alone so we don't make things worse for no reason. ”
_ Shailly: “ I agree. ”
I showed up with Son afterward, feeling like I’d cut their conversation short.
_ Ayden: " Am I interrupting? "
_ Shailly: " We were done. "
_ Hazel: " More importantly… “
Our eyes lock onto him, waiting for him to pull himself up.
_ Hazel: “ Tell us the truth now. ”
A look of shared understanding, tinged with astonishment, passes between Shailly and Son.
_ Shailly & Son: " The truth? "
He continues, his gaze resolute.
_ Hazel: " All that talk about Edna was just a bluff, wasn't it? "
