Rest assured that if you enjoyed it, I have every intention to continue the series. There are, after all, a great many tarot cards. That and I just love Magical Girls.

I wanted to push myself with this novella, but perhaps it was already too much of a challenge to write 60,000 words in two weeks to get it done in time for the Urban Fantasy writing challenge. I should've given myself more time.

What else is there to say?

Originally, the Fool Arc and the Magician Arc were going to be full volumes on their own, but things didn’t quite end up that way. Experimenting with a new format for me led to a lot of teething troubles with the Fool Arc, and it ended up being shorter than expected, clocking in at around 35,000 words or so. But then Magician also came in short, so maybe in the future I’ll do two arcs per volume?

So, the original plan was for Magician to focus mainly on Constellation’s crew to juxtapose them with the Cards. Starplus and Constellation were going to be the primary focus characters, with the Sleepy reveal taking place right at the end. The story would have brief appearances by the Cards that were more or less the ones in the story as I’ve written it.

I went back and forth on where to set Magician, too. Part of me wanted to set it in Hokkaido, but it made more sense for the team to go to Tokyo. Sort of a reverse skiing episode, but with death.

Most of the arcs were planned, but some things just happened as the story came up. Like Rook not being dead.

Honestly, right up until the end of the Rook vs Maniacal (first time) fight, I was debating killing her off to raise the stakes, but I enjoyed writing her character and coming up with background details- her fear of scary movies and closed spaces, her love of sports- that it ended up with her surviving the encounter. So I guess being a fraidy-cat means you get to live, how very horror movie of the Maniacal.

Maybe sometime in the future I’ll do a rewrite in a longer format if I have the time? That'd be fun.
