Epilogue

Cameras flashed in Shin’s face as he made his way to the stand. They only stopped after his lips were up to the microphone. However, before he spoke, someone else asked a question first.

“Mr. Yukimura, you’re only thirty-seven years old. If you win, you’ll become the youngest prime minister of Japan to date. Do you have anything to say for yourself?”

“Yes, I do,” Shin spoke clearly into the microphone. “I need to tell you that yokai exist.”

“Huh?” His answer stunned the audience. Even the reporter in front of him cleared their throat before asking, “Sorry, did you say yokai exist, sir?”

“Yes, I did.” Shin didn’t even stutter once as he continued. “My wife and many others, including me, battled yokai for quite some time as something called an Onmyoji. You may not know what that is, but the bottom line is that yokai are real. You need to be able to use an energy called mana to perceive them, and that’s what Onmyoji use to fight them.”

“S-sir?”

“However, not all yokai are evil. Some want and actively try to pursue peace, no matter the cost.” Shin looked for Nurarihyon in the audience before he continued. “And it is for those yokai and you people of Japan that I am running for prime minister. I swear on my name, Yukimura Shin, that this country will become one where both can coexist peacefully.”
