Chapter 48:
Song of Grace
Kim
Silvi and the girl were asleep next to me, and even though I struggled to keep my eyes open, I knew I couldn’t do the same. Sara and Cat weren’t here, so it was up to me to keep watch and make sure they were safe.
I wrapped the blanket closer around me and stared into the dark. I hoped Sara and Cat would be okay. I wished I could have gone after them and warned them about the Queen’s plan, but I didn’t think it would be a good idea. If the Queen’s soldiers saw us, they would probably kill us. I only wished the girl had come earlier.
I heard Silvi murmur in her sleep. We hadn’t talked much about what had happened, but I knew she cried when she lay in bed. Cat had told us we had to learn how to fight, and she’d taught me more than I’d learned in the camp. Maybe it was for the best. I couldn’t live the life I had before, and I had to learn to defend myself. It wasn’t fair, but nothing was, it seemed like.
I only wished I would see my family soon, but it didn’t seem likely any longer. It hadn’t turned out as I thought when I left the Queen’s Champion camp, but at least I had the others and wasn’t alone.
