Chapter 13:
Love plus Chaos equals Family!
"Mei, I can't get up," Li Wei groaned while sprawled on the bed. "I think I ate too much."
An Mei, who was changing into nightwear, chuckled at her husband's predicament. "Weiwei, you only have yourself to blame."
"I know. But that Japanese dish was so good. The fish was just asking to be eaten. And Hua-jie was telling me to eat more. It was too much pressure."
"Well, you certainly fulfilled both of their requests."
Now covered only by the thin garment of her nightwear, An Mei posed for her husband. "So, how do I look?"
Li Wei slowly turned his head to admire his wife. A single "Wow!!!" was all he could manage before his brain short-circuited, and then he simply kept staring.
"Weiwei, say something."
"Huh...umm...yeah... I mean, you look amazing, Mei. Is this a new one?"
"Yeah. I got it when I went shopping with Jing-jie. It's a little more sexier than the others. Do you like it?"
"Like...like it? I love it. Do you have any more like this?"
"Aren't you eager to know?"
"I am just collecting data for future applications."
"Well, my dear professor, you will just have to be wait and see what's in store for you in the future."
"I can wait. I am a very patient man. But for now, I really, really want to get up and hug you, but I can't. Can you please get on the bed and crawl on top of me?"
An Mei happily obliged her temporarily incapacitated husband.
Li Wei wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her neck. "This is perfect," he said. "Nice family dinner at Da-jie's mansion, cuddling with my wife, and no Jing-jie to ruin the peace."
An Mei laughed and gently kissed her husband's lips. "My poor baby, you went through so much this week."
"I really did. Not having you in the bedroom was the toughest part, though."
"I know. I really missed you, Weiwei."
An Mei went in for another kiss, but Li Wei deftly dodged her. "Missed me? I don't believe it."
"What?!"
"You were quite happy to hang out with Jing-jie," Li Wei accused his wife while trying to dodge more of her kisses.
"But...but I was just being a good sister-in-law, and she looked so sad," An Mei tried to explain, in the midst of her crusade to give her husband another kiss.
"Hmph! You chose her over me, remember?" The professor was now openly pouting.
An Mei, unable to land a proper kiss on his lips, decided to change strategy. She grabbed his face with both hands and said, "Did you forget, my dear genius, that I chose you in the end? And didn't I already show you last night how much I missed you all week? I didn't hear any complaints yesterday."
Li Wei started blushing as memories of Saturday night, when they had made up for the entire week, came flooding in. An Mei, capitalizing on her husband's moment of weakness, gave him a deep and affectionate kiss.
They kissed a couple more times before going back to cuddling.
"I do kind of miss having Jing-jie around," Li Wei said. "She is super annoying, but the entire week she was here, it was quite lively."
An Mei smiled and replied, "I know, Weiwei. Overall, I am happy that we got to support her through the breakup and spend time with her. It was an exhausting but fun week. Definitely gave me a lot of material for my new novel."
"How is that coming along, by the way?"
"I am still rewriting Chapter 8, and it's looking pretty good."
"When do you think it will be out?"
"I don't know, maybe a few more months?"
"Ugh...too long. Please tell me that Sun Yingmei doesn't end up with the main guy. She deserves so much better. I hated what he did to her in the last book."
"Weiwei, I am not going to give away spoilers."
"Not even to me?"
"Nope."
"I can pay with kisses."
"Tempting offer, but still no."
"Being married to a famous author is of no use. You are still treated like just another fan."
An Mei kissed him on the lips again. "I don't think any other fan will get this treatment."
"Just one kiss?"
"You are too greedy."
A couple more kisses followed. This time they were not limited to Li Wei's lips; his cheeks, neck, and forehead also got quite a bit of attention.
"By the way, Mei, what are those boxes I saw earlier in the living room?"
"They are gifts from Jing-jie."
"More gifts, why?"
"Some of them are to apologize for overstaying. Some are for you solving the problem. And the rest are for me, because she just felt like it."
"But she already gave me gifts during the celebration last week."
"Those were picked by her assistants. These were picked by Jing-jie herself."
"Now I am feeling bad again for kicking her out."
"My poor Weiwei, do you want me to console you?"
"I like the sound of that. But sadly, I am still immobile."
"Don't worry, I can do all the work today. Let's pick up where we left off last night."
