Chapter 78:

Traitor

Veil of the Shadow Hunter

The Dark Embassy loomed before them, an imposing fortress shrouded in shadows, pulsating with an eerie energy. Leegna felt the weight of the air pressing against him, a tangible tension that signaled both danger and opportunity. Yuj stood beside him, a smug confidence radiating from his posture as he surveyed the grim structure.

"Remember, Leegna," Yuj began, his voice smooth like silk. "Our goal is to dismantle this realm from within. With my new army and Ryn's strategic mind, we'll have the upper hand."

Leegna nodded, his mind already turning with darker thoughts. Yuj, despite being a part of the Time Guardians, had made it clear that he wished to break free from their control. Yet Leegna's ambitions surpassed that. To obliterate all realms, he believed, was the only true liberation—the annihilation of suffering itself.

"Yuj," he said, his tone level, "the only true freedom lies in nothingness. Why merely dethrone the Dark Embassy when we can extinguish all realms and free every soul from their pain?"

Yuj's expression shifted, a flicker of confusion mingling with concern. "That's a bold thought. But we need allies to achieve that kind of power—"

"Allies can be liabilities," Leegna interrupted coldly, a hint of madness creeping into his voice. "They can be manipulated or betrayed. Power is the only ally worth having."

As they approached the entrance, Leegna's mind was a tempest of dark calculations. The shadows whispered around him, feeding his hunger for control and strength. The Lost Rapier of Dark Matter, now a deep, dark velvet that matched his cloak, thrummed with the energy of the souls he had consumed, each victory turning him into a more formidable threat.

Suddenly, a small army of shadowy figures emerged from the gloom, silent but deadly. They resembled the Eyeless creature but bore a distinct air of loyalty to Yuj.

"You need not fear them," Yuj assured, waving a hand dismissively. "They're merely peons in our service."

Leegna's eyes narrowed as he spotted Ryn among them, a human female with an air of confidence that spoke volumes. "And what role does she play?" he inquired.

"Ryn will provide us with strategy and lead these peons into battle," Yuj explained. "Trust me, she's a valuable asset."

Leegna felt a flicker of skepticism but nodded. He didn't need to show his hand—not yet. "Very well. Let's proceed."

As they moved deeper into the Dark Embassy, Leegna sensed the oppressive atmosphere shift. The whispers grew louder, and he could feel eyes watching him from the shadows. But there was something more—an unsettling tug at the edges of his consciousness.

In a rare moment of introspection, he hesitated, memories of Stina—the Eyeless creature—flooding his mind. Her loyalty had been unwavering, yet he felt a strange pang of guilt over the path he was choosing. Was this the legacy he wanted to leave?

But his thoughts were interrupted as Yuj caught his attention, "Leegna, we must work together. The Time Guardians have bound us to this fate, but we can free ourselves by obliterating their stronghold. If we can destroy the Celestial Realm, we'll cut the head off the snake."

Leegna's brow furrowed at the mention of the Celestial Realm. Was this what Yuj truly wanted? "You think destroying their realm will free you from their system of entrapment?"

"Precisely," Yuj replied, a fervor igniting in his eyes. "But you must understand—I don't intend to let you become free in the process. Your power is a threat I can't ignore."

The chill in the air sharpened, and as Leegna processed Yuj's words, a cold realization settled over him. The sense of danger intensified, and he prepared himself for the worst.

Just then, he felt it—a sharp pain slicing through his side, followed by the cold whisper of betrayal. He staggered, looking down to see Yuj's knife buried deep in his flesh.

"You've gone too far for your own good, Leegna," Yuj said, his voice low and venomous. "I may want freedom, but not at the cost of your tyranny. You are too powerful now that I have an army. I can convince them that you've left a legacy for me to carry on."

Leegna's breath hitched, shock and rage coursing through him. As darkness began to encroach on his vision, his instincts kicked in. With an effort that felt like a monumental feat, he activated his Time Leap ability for the third time.

Time rippled around him, and in an instant, he felt himself being pulled through the fabric of reality. When he opened his eyes, he was in an unfamiliar place, tired and restless, his hair longer, streaked with gray, his face pale as if life itself was being drained from him.

Leegna's heart raced, panic bubbling beneath the surface. The price of overusing his power was steep, and now he understood the limits of his abilities. He was on the edge, teetering dangerously between power and destruction, and the whispers of madness echoed in his mind.
