Chapter 37:

Staying On Top

I Swear I've Got a Good Reason...

Subaru actually got in a decent and successful hit with his swing of the metal bar.

"Ah... the hell!"

The gun flew from Mr Tetsuko's whacked hand, and tumbled with a thud on the tatami mats, to rest at his stunned daughter's feet.

Both Kei and Masaru took the gifted distraction and instantly acted; starting to seriously scuffle with their holders, while the previously stationary one of the 'goons' also promptly turned on the others, coming to the assistance of his proper 'boss', and also making it into an even three on three struggle across the room.

"Why you...!"

Subaru had the baton still, but the older man only hesitated for a few moments, before quickly whisking around to confront the surprise attacker, then quickly reached over, tightly grasping the other end of the shaking baton, firmly with his un-hit hand.

"You little bitch!"

He yanked it free from Subaru's weaker hands and then Subaru knew he was in some serious trouble - as the taller man grabbed his shirt and ribbon with his clenched hand.

I'm in for it now...

Surprisingly Takahito only pushed him backward then, letting Subaru go as his focus went to his teen aged child, while stepping toward and shouting at his fellow family member.

"Minami - you stupid girl! Give me that gun - now!"

She looked at the spilt firearm at her feet with surprise, while the Akashi's started to gain the upper-hand in their nearby scuffle.

"Give it to me now... you selfish brat!"

His voice rose with urgency and annoyance while Minami finally reached down, quite slowly, and picked it up, but then clutched it toward her pointy chest rather than give it to his outstretched hand, then quivered out a little.

"No..."

If I was treated like that, no way would I gift something back -!

"What did you say to me!?"

Minami winced away as her father's face blustered red with fury, and he suddenly stepped over with the baton raised high, but Subaru suddenly got in between them to try and protect the frightened daughter, without thinking of himself at all.

The metal pole smacked Subaru's left shoulder, as he pushed Minami clear of the nasty strike, that probably would have struck her head, if not for his uncharacteristic actions, and he instantly fell to the floor beside the also unsteadied girl.

Oh! That really... really hurts...! Crap, that sounded like something cracked...

He gasped on the floor, overcome with the pain, and slightly curled up, protectively covering the shoulder with his other arm, weary of another blow - that never came.

"You!"

Kei had broke loose from the much bigger guy she'd been struggling with, and charged Tetsuko, surprising him and getting in an effective punch, right to the side of his bearded face.

He dropped the metal bat and stumbled away, but Kei already struck again, getting another good levering punch in to his chest, sending him staggering backwards some more.

"I'll kick your arse for that! Don't you dare hurt Subaru again!"

Kei screamed at Takahito, while she unleashed yet another quick attack - which this time sent him falling into the rooms sliding doors, which buckled and fell into the corridor beyond, with a loud clatter under him.

"Oh gosh... Subaru are you okay?"

Minami tended to him, after he'd practically collapsed into her open, bare legged lap, right near her visible dark-blue panties.

But the pain was still to severe, as he couldn't manage a sound, as Minami worried and gathered his curled up body a little closer, and leant over him to offer some limited protection from the ongoing chaos that went on around them.

The large crash did bring more people into the fight, and it soon stopped, as more loyal 'guards' arrived to restrain the rouge ones, while a braver and older one stepped between the furious Kei and the incapacitated instigator of the evenings incident, that had become her punching bag.

"That's enough."

Kei turned away from the old guy she had battered up a bit and then promptly started towards Subaru and the other Tetsuko in the room.

"This is... your fault!"

Minami panicked, but didn't dare move as Kei stomped over to them.

"Wait... please!"

Kei grabbed her white dresses front and heaved her up slightly, and pulled her other hand back.

"This was your doing too."

"I didn't know daddy was going to do that... honestly!"

She closed her eyes and expected the hit anyway, but Subaru broke Kei's fury.

"Kei... please..."

When she looked down on him, he carefully shook his head in her lap, being about all the movement Subaru could manage at that moment, and Kei released Minami's blouse and began to breath calmer.

Subaru winced again, as the rouge men were hauled off somewhere, and Masaru shrugged off his late assisters and came nearer too.

"Miss Sekiya, are you alright?"

He knelt down beside and looked over him, with as much concern as Kei showed him too.

"I think... something broke..."

Subaru made out.

"Get me an ambulance."

He directed his nearest underling, and then slowly and carefully scooped Subaru into his arms.

"Uh, no I...!"

Subaru was alarmed as he was easily lifted up, but Kei's dad was gentle enough to avoid causing any further pain.

"Don't worry..."

I'm worrying... he's lifted me up so high now...!

"We'll get you anything you need kiddo, I mean it."

Subaru watched his darker-blue eyes shift from concern to a more happy and prideful expression.

"After all you saved me and my kid here today, I will be in your debt for a while kiddo."

The bigger man carried Subaru toward the front entrance, ever so carefully, while Kei trotted along just behind.

"You really stepped up back then... even though you didn't have to..."

The oldest lackey rushed to open all the doors to the front entrance before his carrying 'boss' arrived at each, and soon Subaru was waiting beside the road.

"We'll be forever grateful for what you did today, so let us get you the help you need."

The whir of a rushing ambulance drew nearer, but Kei's dad continued to hold him gently up before him in the air, just by their entrance gate.

"Thank-you."
