Chapter 11:
Forest Contract
Early morning mist veiled the mountains and forests like a light veil.
Chen Xue squatted by the stream beside the courtyard, a bamboo pole in her hand, as if practicing fishing.
Her movements were light and her gaze focused, but the subtle shift in the air she sensed had already occurred.
Chen Ye emerged from the house, a hunting rifle in his hand, a Type 56 semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder.
“You’re here?” he asked softly.
Chen Xue looked up, nodded slightly, a strange light gleaming in her eyes.
“Brother, I… I sensed something was amiss when you acted in the spatial dimension.”
Her voice was soft, yet clear.
Chen Ye’s heart tightened—she was referring to the moment of loss of control three days ago.
“How did you sense it?” he asked. His tone wasn’t panicked, but so low that only he could hear it.
Chen Xue lowered her head, her fingers lightly tracing the river water: "It's not listening, it's...feeling. Like there's a thread in my heart, being pulled."
—That thread wasn't given by the system.
Chen Ye froze.
He had already experienced the system's first forced correction and knew the danger of being "pulled."
And his sister, unknowingly, had also begun to sense spatial fluctuations.
"Be careful," Chen Ye said in a low voice, "This feeling...you can't handle too much yet."
Chen Xue looked up, her eyes shining like two stars: "I know, brother. But I want to try."
With that, she reached out and ran her hand across the river. The water rippled slightly, pausing for a moment at her fingertips.
In that instant, a familiar notification appeared in Chen Ye's mind:
[Abnormal Resonance Triggered]
[Potential Contract Compatibility Rate: 42%]
[Status: Passively Activated]
—This was the first time the system had directly alerted him to her potential, and Chen Ye hadn't participated.
He held his breath.
"Brother Ye, are you looking at me?" Chen Xue asked softly. Chen Ye nodded. "I'm here."
He noticed that his sister's breathing was more stable than usual, and her movements were even more precise than a child learning to fish.
It wasn't deliberate precision from training.
It was intuitive control.
At noon, their parents went to town to buy things.
Only the brother and sister remained in the yard.
Chen Xue suddenly pointed into the depths of the forest: "I just... I think I saw light flashing in the space, but it wasn't from you."
Chen Ye's brow furrowed, but he quickly regained his composure: "Don't come near."
But she had already taken a step forward, her eyes resolute.
"Brother, I want to help you."
At that moment, Chen Ye truly felt for the first time—the power of the contract hidden in their bloodline began to resonate automatically with his domain.
Whenever he manipulated the space, his sister would sense a slight fluctuation, not entirely under his control, but reacting semi-autonomously.
In the evening, Chen Ye entered the forest again to check the stability of his domain.
From afar, he saw his sister crouching at the edge of the forest, her fingers trembling slightly, as if adjusting something.
[Spatial Feedback]
[Passive Resonance Triggered]
[Domain Stability: Slightly Affected]
Chen Ye approached, her gaze meeting his, as if telling him—
"I can feel you, and I can...partially respond."
He crouched down, whispering, "You can't move carelessly. This thing, if handled carelessly, will hurt others, and it will hurt itself."
Chen Xue nodded gently: "I'll be careful, but I...want to help you."
At that moment, Chen Ye's heart tightened, and he understood—
This wasn't a simple bloodline intuition.
This was a sign of the passive awakening of a potential contract.
The courtyard was eerily quiet at night.
The wind blew through the locust tree, the leaves trembling gently.
Chen Ye stood by the window, watching his sister's sleeping figure, silently making a resolution:
Whether it was the black market, wild beasts, or the system, he would protect his sister's potential.
Now, she was a potential contract, but not a tool.
The space vibrated quietly, as if responding to its master's resolve—
However, this time, there was another hidden entity responding as well.
