The night felt too quiet.
Not peaceful. Not calm. Just… watching.
Tokyo stretched beneath a silver sky, its lights flickering like distant stars fallen onto the earth. Cars hummed. People laughed. Somewhere, a late-night shop played soft music. Life continued, unaware of how close it had come to ending more than once.
On the rooftop of their home, Ragna Maou leaned against the railing, arms folded, staring out at the city he once would have conquered without hesitation.
Now, he simply protected it.
Behind him, the door slid open.
Sakura stepped out, her ankle finally healed, her Hero Blade resting at her side. It no longer pulsed with unease. It glowed faintly, warm and steady, like a heart that had learned how to breathe again.
"She’s asleep," Sakura said softly.
Ragna nodded. "Long day."
"Long year," she replied.
They stood together in silence, shoulder to shoulder. Not Hero and Demon Lord. Not enemies. Not even legends.
Just parents.
Below them, their restaurant sign glowed warmly. Tomorrow would be another day of cooking, school lunches, office stress, and pretending their lives were normal.
But tonight, something felt different.
The air hummed.
Ragna felt it first.
A shift.
A pressure that reminded him of standing at the edge of a battlefield before the first blade was drawn.
"They’re watching again," he murmured.
Sakura didn’t ask who.
She already knew.
---
Inside, Lily slept peacefully, curled under her blanket, one hand clutching a plush toy shaped like a tiny fire chicken.
But even in sleep, her brow twitched.
She was dreaming.
Not the soft dreams of a child.
Visions.
A sky torn open by massive portals.
Cities burning.
A battlefield that stretched across worlds.
And at the center of it all…
Herself.
Older.
Stronger.
Standing between two armies.
One of light.
One of darkness.
Both waiting for her to choose.
She turned in her sleep, whispering something unintelligible.
Outside her window, for just a moment, the air warped.
And a pair of glowing eyes appeared in the darkness.
Watching.
Waiting.
---
Deep within a hidden dimension, the Nine Rings gathered.
Their voices echoed like thunder through a hall of black stone.
"Lord Kael’Rith has fallen."
"The corrupted blade has been purified."
"The hybrid child continues to grow stronger."
A long silence followed.
Then one voice, deeper than the rest, spoke.
"Then it is time."
The floor cracked open.
A massive gate, ancient and scarred, began to rise from the darkness.
"We no longer test them," the voice continued.
"We invade."
---
At the same moment, in the human world, alarms began to ring.
At the Spirit-Fang headquarters.
At the Bureau of Paranormal Regulation.
At shrines across the country.
Spiritual energy levels were rising at a rate never recorded before.
In the sky above Tokyo, invisible to normal eyes, a thin line of red light began to form.
Like a wound.
Like a door.
---
On the rooftop, Sakura gripped the railing.
"Ragna…"
He saw it too.
A crack in the sky.
Faint.
But real.
His old instincts surged back to life. His demonic aura stirred beneath his skin, eager, restless, dangerous.
For the first time in years, he didn’t push it down.
He let it breathe.
"Looks like they’re done playing games," he said quietly.
Sakura reached for his hand.
He didn’t pull away.
"If the war comes back," she said, voice steady, "we fight it together."
Ragna looked at her.
The woman who once tried to kill him.
The woman who saved him.
The woman who gave him a life he never knew he wanted.
"Always," he replied.
---
Inside the apartment, Lily suddenly sat upright in bed.
Her eyes glowed.
Red.
Gold.
And something new.
White.
She looked at her hands, confused.
Then at the window.
She could feel it.
The world calling.
The future reaching for her.
She whispered, half scared, half excited:
"It’s starting…"
---
Above Tokyo, the crack in the sky widened just a little more.
From the other side, something massive moved.
And for the first time since the Demon Lord and the Hero vanished from their old world…
Both realms began preparing for the same thing.
War.
To be continued…
