Chapter 1:
Kuu-Chan is Hard to Read
Kuuge Tomohiro was walking back to his apartment after his Organic Chemistry class. The class recently had a test the week before and the professor informed his students that grading was done, so they can check what they made on the university’s app. Tomohiro was doing exactly that and wasn’t too pleased with the number shown on the screen.
He let out a tiny, annoyed groan, “A 58. I thought I understood what was being taught.” He sighed and finally set upon a decision he’s been debating about ever since he failed his first test with a 32. “That’s it, I need to get a tutor.”
Kuuge was sitting in the university’s courtyard looking through the many tutors that the university provided through their app. Most of the tutors are students who attended the university while some are students at a partner institution since the school has a joint program with a university nearby.
“Kuu-chan?” A girl appeared in front of him. Her towering figure blocked the sunlight that was hitting his phone. Tomohiro looked up to see a girl with reddish-brown hair and kind hazel eyes. She smiled as she made eye contact with the boy.
“Ah Nonoka,” Tomohiro said with no expression. Sakamoto Nonoka is Kuuge Tomohiro’s best friend ever since they met in middle school. Tomohiro wasn’t the type to talk to others much ever since he was young, but Nonoka was persistent in wanting to get closer to him, which led to their present relationship; Nonoka is one of the few people who understands Tomohiro as well as someone who can actually make him express certain emotions.
“Hey, you could at least be a bit happy to see me.” She gently pushed him aside as she sat down near him. Tomohiro was sitting close to the edge of the bench; luckily his small frame allowed him to exactly fit in the small space that was left over.
“You’re taking up my space.”
“Ehh? Really? Then I guess you wouldn’t mind sitting on my lap then!” Nonoka grabbed Tomohiro and sat him on her lap. His face was buried in her big chest and she tightly squeezed him and rubbed her cheek into his head.
“Nonoka! Let me go! Let me go, I say,” Tomohiro’s voice was muffled as he yelled that out.
“Just let me cuddle you a bit more!”

“A tutor?”
“Mm. I can’t afford to fail this class. If I retake it, then I’ll be behind on my degree plan.” Tomohiro calmly fixed his messed up hair that was caused by Nonoka.
“I see.” Nonoka was looking at all the options showing up on Tomohiro’s phone as he was scrolling. Just then, she remembered something, “Oh! I know someone who can help you. I can ask him to help you and he’ll probably do it for free.”
“Really? You’d do that for me?” Tomohiro looked at her with an innocent gaze.
“Mm. But, you have to do something for me.” Nonoka crossed her arms with a serious expression.
“Sure! What do I have to do?”
Nonoka suddenly pulled him into a hug, squeezing him tightly as his face was buried in her chest. She was giggling as he was trying to fight his way out of being potentially suffocated. “Just let me cuddle with you for a while!”

Tomohiro received a text from Nonoka as he reached the door to his apartment.
“He said he can meet you tomorrow at noon, are you free then,” the text read.
Tomohiro replied back, “Mm. I only have one morning class tomorrow.” Tomohiro slid his phone into his jean pocket and opened the door to his apartment.
“Welcome home Kuu-chan!!” A boy bearing a huge smile greeted Tomohiro at the door. He was wearing an apron and carrying a huge ladle in his right hand that laid on his right shoulder. The boy had messy brown hair (which is intentionally styled that way) and stood at 6 foot. He had the appearance of a prince (or in this case, a handsome chef) with kind brown eyes and a purehearted smile. Aikou Noriyuki is the current roommate of Tomohiro as well as his first boyfriend.
“Oh. Hi.”
“Kuu-Chan! I waited this whole day worrying where you were since you didn’t come home directly after class. I looked out the window every 5 minutes wondering when you’d be back and even cooked dinner for you in case you came home starving. And all I get is…a ‘hi’.” Noriyuki pouted at Tomohiro’s unexpressive response.
“Oh, I hope you made something good.” Tomohiro dismissed his roommates whining.
Noriyuki changed tone, “Of course, it’s good! I only offer the best to my beloved Kuu-chan,” he nuzzled Tomohiro’s hair.
“Oh yeah, Yuki, I won’t be home directly after class tomorrow.”
“Eh??? But, I already planned out lunch for us. I was thinking we could go get ice cream, then go to the arcade, and then we can have dinner at the new Italian place. I can have my driver take us–”
“That sounds more like a date than ‘just lunch’. Also, don't you have a class at 2?”
“I’ll skip it if it means getting to spend time with you,” Noriyuki dramatically clutched his hands towards his chest.
“You’re going,” Tomohiro replied coldly.
“Oh, by the way, why won’t you be here?”
“I’m meeting someone at noon tomorrow.”
“You’re having lunch with someone other than me???” Noriyuki was alarmed to hear that his beloved boyfriend was spending time with someone else other than him.
“Relax, it’s just a tutor. I failed my test and I need to pass this class or else I’ll have to take an extra semester.”
“Kuu-chan…” Noriyuki took Tomohiro’s hands and clasped it in between his. He gave him a look reminiscent of what a shoujo male lead would give to his love interest. “If you can’t graduate and get a good career, I would be glad to financially, emotionally, and physically support you forever.”
“No, thank you,” Tomohiro responded with no hint of being flustered by Noriyuki’s words.
“Fine, at least just tell me where you’ll be going so I won’t get worried.”
“Mm. I’ll tell you when I get the information from Nonoka. Can I go eat now,” Tomohiro’s stomach grumbled.
“Oh no! I was being thoughtless and let Kuu-chan starve,” Noriyuki overreacted.
“It’s not that serious…”

Tomohiro just got out of his morning class and was waiting at the university’s student center for his tutor to come by. In the distance, a boy was sitting at a table far across the room, diligently documenting Tomohiro’s every move. The boy had spiky blonde hair and had the face of a delinquent though his personality greatly contrasted his appearance. Kondou Osuke is the best friend of Noriyuki and was helping his friend keep an eye on Tomohiro.
“Do you see him?” Noriyuki’s voice came from Osuke’s earbuds.
“Got my eye on the target. Suspect doesn’t show any sign of anxiousness or guilt. Typical.” Osuke was acting as if he was on a stakeout, which he kind of was.
“Good, make sure he doesn’t notice you.”
“Don’t worry, I bought a great disguise.” Osuke was wearing an oversized black hoodie with sunglasses and a mask covering his nose and mouth. In his effort of trying to not be noticed, he was definitely the most noticeable person in the building.
Meanwhile, Tomohiro was going over his notes over the lectures and was preparing questions to ask the tutor about concepts he couldn’t understand.
“Kuuge Tomohiro?”
Tomohiro looked up to see a handsome young man standing next to him. The man gave him a warm smile that made Tomohiro feel at ease; even then, Tomohiro expressed no visible emotion to the man. “Yes,” he answered flatly.
“I’m Enomoto Chisei, your tutor.”
“I see, please take a seat and let’s get started.” Tomohiro gestured to the seat across from him which Chisei took.
“The tutor has entered the room. I repeat, the tutor has entered the room.” Osuke alerted Noriyuki.
“Who is it? What are they like?”
“I don’t know. I’ve never seen him around school before. But he seems nice.”
“HIM??? IT’S A MAN??? He better not get comfortable with my Kuu-Chan! Does he seem like Kuu-Chan’s type?”
“How am I supposed to know his type?”
“Well, does he seem like me?”
“He actually seems like the opposite of you,” Osuke carefully observed the scene in front of him.
“Oh, that makes me feel better.”
“He seems like a good student who’s not too crazy to pull stunts like this.”
“What’s that supposed to mean??”
But, it seems like Kuu-Chan is quickly warming up to him. The guy gives off a good vibe. If Kuu-Chan likes him, then he must be a good guy.”
“Right now he is, but soon he’ll be after my Kuu-Chan and I’ll be left alone with only my memories of him to keep me happy,” Noriyuki was becoming delusional over the interaction between Tomohiro and Chisei.
Osuke sighed, “Yuki…I’LL HELP YOU STAY WITH KUU-CHAN FOREVER. IF THIS GUY TRIES TO PULL ANYTHING, I’LL DO MY BEST TO STOP HIM!!” Osuke is the friend that feeds into Noriyuki’s delusions.
“Osuke?” A familiar voice called out his name. Osuke turned to see Tomohiro standing to the left of him.
“Ahhh…Kuu-Chan…” Osuke let out a sheepish chuckle while scratching his head. “What are you doing here? I’m just studying here by myself, I didn’t know you studied here too. Well, it’s been like an hour already, so I need a break. Happy studying!” Osuke got up from his seat only to feel a tug on his hoodie sleeve. He turned to see Tomohiro standing there with the same expressionless face he always has. Even though he didn’t show it, Osuke could feel some sort of intense aura surrounding Tomohiro.
“Osuke…”
Osuke was starting to feel a bit hot and his heart was beating faster than usual. He tried his best not to make eye contact with Tomohiro because his black pupils felt like it could stare into his soul. “FINE! I WAS WATCHING YOU BECAUSE YUKI BEGGED ME TO! PLEASE DON’T HURT ME!!”
“Oh, I see. I was just wondering where you got this hoodie from. It’s perfectly oversized and seems comfy to wear.” Tomohiro was staring in awe at the piece of clothing Osuke had on.
“Oh…”

Tomohiro entered the apartment and was greeted at the door by a smiling Noriyuki.
“KUU-CHAN, YOU’RE HOME!! How was your day? Did you do anything eventful? I didn’t do much. I went to class like you told me to so my day was kind of boring. Tell me everything you–” Noriyuki’s babbling was interrupted by a sudden hug from Tomohiro. “Kuu-Chan…”
Tomohiro looked up at him with a slightly annoyed expression. “Don’t ever think I’d fall for anyone else.”
“Eh??” Noriyuki blushed.
“I only want to be with you, so have more faith in me, okay?” Tomohiro hugged Noriyuki even tighter.
Noriyuki was taken aback witnessing this side of Tomohiro; his shock turned into a smile and he returned Tomohiro’s embrace, “Mm, I will.”

At the dinner table, Tomohiro finally informed Noriyuki, “By the way, the tutor is nothing like my type. He’s not crazy enough for me.”
“I got it! I’ll be extra crazy for you, Kuu-chan,” Noriyuki declared with a smile.
“Actually…you’re a bit too crazy.”
“EHHHH????”
Trivia: Enomoto Chisei is actually Sakamoto Nonoka’s cousin on her mom’s side.
