Chapter 0:

X137

Case No.317

Six months ago

The sound of wailing echoed throughout the lab, followed by pounding on glass. A panicked scientist rushed to the observation room, “sir we have to shut it down! All the subjects will die!” The lead scientist turned to him and scoffed, “Mr. Lorenzo if the subjects perish then they simply never deserved to live.” He said. The pounding grew louder as did the wailing. “Susan, bring the power up to level six.” The lead scientist said. “Yes Dr. Harvey.” Susan replied as she pushed the lever up to six. Electricity rained down from each cell, the creatures tensed and hit the floor, all crying in agony. Dr. Harvey was displeased, he gathered his belongings and began to leave the room. “Turn it off, we’ll try again tomorrow.” He ordered. The machines shut down and the electricity stopped.

Dr. Harvey arrived to his study, and began going over his notes on the experiment. “Why aren’t they mutating as before?” He thought to himself. “Everything was working perfectly but now results have slowed. Wait.” He flipped through his notebook, “not here, or here” he muttered as he flipped page by page. Knock Knock knock “enter.” Dr. Harvey said, still flipping through his notes. He looked up, “ahh Ms. Palmer, how did it go?” He asked. “Sir the serum was injected as instructed, however one of the subjects reacted differently.” Ms. Palmer said. “Was it the transfer?” Mr. Harvey asked. Ms. Palmer nodded, “it was subject X137, it didn’t pass out from level six as the rest did.” Dr. Harvey jotted the information down, “so what happened?” He asked. “It grew aggressive, and struck the glass with its tendrils, it began to crack so we had to subdue it by all means.” She explained. “And the others?” Dr. Harvey asked. She shook her head, “we had to up the power to level fifteen, before it passed out. Unfortunately thirty of the other subjects didn’t make it.” Dr. Harvey noted the information again, closed his notebook and sighed. “X137 was transferred a week ago is that correct?” He asked. Ms. Palmer seemed visibly confused by his question, “uhh i believe so sir.” He slammed his fist on his desk. “THATS IT!” He shouted, “X137 is why everything slowed!” He added.

Footsteps clacked through the halls. Dr. Harvey barged back into the observation room, “open the doors I’m going in there,” he said, he looked at two other scientists, “you two with me.” He ordered.

“So your capable of this, X137?” Dr. Harvey said to himself. The glass cage was cracked, close to being completely shattered. Slime was oozing through the cracks. In the cage was a black humanoid creature, with six tendrils protruding from its back. Slime sweated from its body, and its breathing was weak. Dr. Harvey pressed on his walkie talkie, “you said it took level fifteen to knock it out?” He asked. Someone from the observation room answered, “yes sir that is correct.” Dr. Harvey began to ponder, “all that electricity and yet I see no burns on you? You are quite extraordinary.” He whispered as he touched the cracked glass. He pinched his fingers together, stretching the slime. “Uh sir?” One of the scientists said scared. Dr. Harvey looked to him, “what is it? Can’t you see I’m doing my research.” The scientist stood still in horror. Dr. Harvey looked towards what he was looking at. A glass cage was shattered, and the subject inside was missing. “open the doors.” Dr. Harvey ordered through the walkie talkie. The three men walked backwards slowly. X137’s cage was right beside them when suddenly THUD!  A black tendril slapped the cracked glass inside the cage. It slapped again, and again, harder and harder until it shattered. Glass scattered across the floor with slime oozing out of the cage. A rippling growl echoed from the cage. From the other side of the room glass crunched under heavy footsteps. A wolf like creature appeared behind other cages, slowly making its way towards the scientists. “Sir..” one of the scientists muttered. “RUN!” Dr. Harvey shouted, the three men ran towards the open door. The creature chased after them. The men took turns around cages in attempts to shake the beast, but it was to fast. The creature slammed into cages while turning shattering more and more cages, freeing more and more creatures. Alarms started blaring, the whole lab was being locked down. As they approached the door it started to slowly shut. “I said keep it open God dammit!” Dr. Harvey shouted through the walkie talkie. “I’m sorry sir, but I can’t risk the lives of everyone here.” A voice responded. “Turn the machine back on! Max level!” Dr. Harvey ordered. X137 began to stand up, slime dripping from its tendrils and it’s rippling growl echoed through the room. The door shut on the three men, locking them inside with the subjects. “Dear God.” Dr. Harvey said. The wolf like creature jumped at the three men, they tried getting away, the wolf like creature jumped on top of one of the scientists mauling him. He screamed in agony as he was devoured. The wolf creature stood on its hind legs, and walked towards the second scientist, leaving a trail of blood dripping from its claws and mouth. “No… No plea-“ the wolf like creature bit his throat. Dr. Harvey crawled in fear to the door and pounded on it. The wolf like creature slowly walked towards him. “Turn it on!” He shouted in the walkie talkie. “It’s still powering on!” A voice responded. Dr. Harvey coward in fear. The wolf like creature pounced at Dr. Harvey but was suspended in the air. A black tendril pierced through the wolf like creatures body, it flailed around and cried. Squelching footsteps grew louder. More creatures woke up, some resembled cats, dogs, lizards, and other animals, but X137 was the only one of its kind. The black slimy humanoid walked towards them, other creatures tried pouncing on X137 but was swatted away by its tendrils, killing each and every one of them with ease. “Open this door now!” Dr. Harvey screamed. The door slowly opened, he scooted under and it closed again. X137 kept walking towards the door, squelching footsteps one after another. The wolf like creature was thrown off its tendril, slime flew off with its body. X137 reached out to the door, touching it. It’s tendril cocked back and quickly and forcefully rammed into the door, piercing it. The machine dinged, “KILL IT!” Dr. Harvey ordered. The machine whirred and electricity rained down from the entire room, frying and killing every creature.
